The short answer

When should I book a Christmas photoshoot in West London?

If the photographs are for Christmas cards, get in touch early in the autumn so the session is booked in time for the cards. Sessions at home or in a park such as Walpole Park or Gunnersbury run through November and December, and winter afternoons end early, so late morning is the safest start. Dates for the studio mini sessions in Northwood are released for the season, so ask by phone or WhatsApp. For a home or park session, travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote.

I love his services, he was very very patient even though we got there late he still took his time capturing a very good family pictures. He also gave us time to satisfy our 6months old one in order to capture her great smile despite the fact that it was passed his closing hours. I would definitely recommend him as you won't be disappointed, you will love him.

Card timing

Finding one date for a family spread across West London

When grandparents in Southall, cousins in Kilburn and your own household in Chiswick all need to be in one picture, the hardest part is agreeing a date, so start asking early in the autumn and the session can be booked in time for the cards. A session at the home with the biggest living room can be the easiest way to gather everyone, since nobody then has to stand about in a cold park waiting for the last car to arrive.

Prints, framed pieces and albums for grandparents can be ordered from the same gallery. The Christmas photoshoot page sets out the card timing and the mini-session format in full, so this page sticks to West London: which parks work in winter, and how a home session fits a terraced house, a 1930s semi or a mansion flat.

At home

By the tree in a West London home

A session at home puts the family among its own decorations: the tree, the stockings, children in pyjamas on the stairs. West London homes range from the late-Victorian houses of the Mapesbury Estate in Cricklewood to the Hanger Hill Garden Estate, built between 1928 and 1936 near Park Royal, and the new flats of Southall's Green Quarter. Every one can work with a little planning: a cleared corner near the tree and a window for daylight.

Winter daylight is short, so home sessions are best booked for late morning or early afternoon, when window light is strongest. Tree lights show best when they are switched on and the room is not too bright, and Kaushik balances the two. Tell us who is coming, grandparents and the dog included, so the groups are planned before the day.

Outdoors

Winter parks: Walpole, Gunnersbury and Chiswick House

On a crisp, dry day a park gives a different kind of Christmas picture: coats, scarves and bare trees. Walpole Park in Ealing has the Serpentine Lake, the bridge and Pitzhanger Manor behind, and Gunnersbury Park on the Ealing and Hounslow border has 72 hectares of listed parkland with lakes and formal gardens. The gardens at Chiswick House open daily from 7am until dusk, which in December means planning around an early sunset.

In the north of the area, Gladstone Park sits on a hill at Dollis Hill with long views over the city, and Queen's Park has its 1891 cast-iron bandstand, a ready-made frame for a family group. Outdoor sessions depend on the weather, so keep an indoor plan ready, at home or as a mini session. Travel from Northwood to the park is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book.

Studio minis and festivals

Christmas minis at the studio, and Diwali and Eid sittings

Mini sessions are short family portrait sittings of around 20 to 30 minutes at the Northwood studio, giving a small set of edited images: enough for a card, a framed present and a few to share. Rain and short winter daylight make no difference to them. Dates are released for the season, so ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383 for the current dates and prices.

Diwali and Eid sittings follow the same short format in the studio, and a Diwali portrait can also be taken at home among your own diyas and rangoli; see Diwali photoshoots and Eid photoshoots. For a family in Southall or Hounslow, ask early in October, because the days around Diwali are the most requested. For Eid, tell us which days around the festival suit your family, and we will say which times are free.

What to wear

Colours, coats and everyone in the picture

For a December park session in West London, coats are likely to stay on, so choose them first and build the rest of the family's colours around them. At home, a late-Victorian front room in Mapesbury and a new flat in Southall's Green Quarter call for different choices: richer colours against plain modern walls, softer ones where the room already has pattern. Leave big logos and slogans in the wardrobe either way.

Read the Christmas photoshoot page for how mini sessions run, and family photography in West London for year-round sessions at home and in parks. Family pages for Ealing, Chiswick and Hounslow cover those towns, and the West London photographer hub lists every service.

Good to know

Christmas photoshoots in West London: questions answered

Yes. Kaushik comes to your home in Ealing, about 7.7 miles from Northwood, and photographs the family by the tree, on the sofa or on the stairs. A late-morning or early-afternoon start gives the most daylight in winter. The Ealing travel goes into your written quote, and the session price comes on request by phone or WhatsApp.

Walpole Park in Ealing, Gunnersbury Park, the gardens at Chiswick House and Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill all give space and character in winter. Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith has a walled garden and a lake that was once part of a medieval moat. Pick one close to home so small children are not tired before you start.

Dates for the Christmas mini sessions are released for each season. Ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383 to hear which dates are open and to reserve one. Each mini session lasts around 20 to 30 minutes and gives a small set of edited images.

Hillingdon Council asks for its permission before professional photos are taken in its green spaces, even for personal use, so allow time to apply. Stockley Country Park, with 11 lakes and around 200,000 trees and shrubs, is one option once permission is in place. A session at home avoids the question altogether.

Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, for a mini session or a longer family session at home or in a park. For a West London home or park, travel from Northwood is added and set out in writing before you book, from about 4.2 miles to Northolt to about 11.3 to Kensington.

Yes, grandparents, cousins and the family dog can all be in it. At home, a living room with the tree can fit a large group if the furniture moves back; outdoors, the bandstand in Queen's Park or the lawns at Gunnersbury give space for everyone in one frame. Tell us the numbers when you book.

Yes. Diwali and Eid sittings follow the same short format in the studio in Northwood, and Diwali can also be photographed at home among your own decorations. For a family in Southall, Hounslow or Wembley, tell us which festival days suit you and we will reply with the times available.
