Ask in early autumn
For Christmas cards from Kent, settle the session date early in the autumn so it is booked in time for the cards and your posting date.

A family Christmas portrait for the card, the grandparents and the hallway wall, taken in your Kent living room, under the trees of a Kent park, or at the studio in Northwood.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik photographs Kent families for Christmas in November and December, either at home with the tree, outdoors in a park such as Mote Park in Maidstone or Dunorlan Park in Tunbridge Wells, or at the Northwood studio. Mini session dates are released for the season, so ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. Kent is 30 miles or more from Northwood, and travel is set out in your written quote before you book.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Kent, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
Very good experience. Did a family shoot at Kaushik Bathia's studio yesterday. He was amazing at getting all of us to give natural smiles.
We had a fun and relaxing family photoshoot. Kaushik managed to make us all at ease and smile, especially our 1 yr old son. He was very efficient, professional and friendly. We viewed the beautiful images promptly, without any pressurised selling. Can't wait to receive the photos. Thanks for the great photoshoot!
Beautiful family photos, everyone was made to feel comfortable and relaxed so we got lovely photos with everyone smiling and happy. Photographs are beautiful. Thank you!
Card deadlines
From Kent, a Christmas card plan has more steps than it would near the studio, because the session needs a date that suits a drive from Northwood as well as your family. Ask early in the autumn, settle the day, and leave time afterwards to choose a picture and get the cards printed and posted from Maidstone, Sevenoaks or wherever home is.
If you already know when the cards need to leave the house, say so when you first get in touch, and the session is booked in time for the cards. You receive high-resolution files ready for any card printer, and prints, frames and albums can be ordered as presents for the Kent grandparents.
If the booking comes later in December, a portrait for the wall or for New Year is still possible, though the card may have to wait a year. Our national Christmas photoshoot page sets out the general timetable.

Your living room
For a family living in Maidstone, the Medway towns or the Weald, the simplest Christmas session can be the one that happens at home. The tree is already up, the children are on familiar ground, and the grandparents do not have to travel anywhere. Kaushik comes to you with the camera and works with the room you have, guiding the groups so nobody is left wondering where to stand.
A home session is planned around a few set-ups rather than one long sitting: the whole family by the tree, the children together, each household if the grandparents are visiting, and a couple of quieter frames of the little ones with a decoration or a stocking. Little ones set the pace, and the session stops before anyone is tired or cross.
Tidy one corner rather than the whole house. A clear space in front of the tree and a sofa or a staircase nearby is usually all the room a family group needs.
Winter parks
If you would rather have coats, scarves and a winter walk than a living room, Kent has large parks that suit that kind of session. Mote Park in Maidstone covers 440 acres, with a lake of around 30 acres formed by damming the River Len at the end of the 18th century. Dunorlan Park in Tunbridge Wells covers about 78 acres, including a 6-acre lake fed by the River Teise, in grounds landscaped by Robert Marnock.
Near Sevenoaks, Knole Park has been a deer park since the 15th century and covers 1,000 acres, which gives a wide, open winter backdrop. In Tonbridge, Haysden Country Park mixes river, lakes, marsh and woodland across about 65 hectares on the western edge of the town.
Winter daylight is short, so an outdoor session is booked for the middle of the day, and we keep a back-up date in mind in case the weather turns. Coats and scarves in a couple of colours that sit together read better against Mote Park's lake or Knole's bare trees than matching novelty jumpers.

Mini sessions
The studio runs short Christmas mini sessions of around 20 to 30 minutes, which give you a small set of edited images: enough for the card, a framed present and a few to share. Mini session dates are released for the season rather than fixed far in advance, so the only reliable way to hear them is to ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, or to send the form on this page.
Prices for mini sessions and for home or park sessions are given on request, so you always get the current figure for the session you want. A studio session is unaffected by rain or short winter daylight, which is worth weighing when the cards have a deadline.
From Kent, the studio at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, is a long trip for a short sitting. Dartford, the nearest of the larger Kent towns, is about 30 miles away. If you would rather Kaushik comes to you, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book.
Busy weekends
Rochester holds two Dickens Festivals a year, one of them in December. If your family wants a portrait in the old town, with Rochester Castle's Norman keep or the Esplanade Gardens by the Medway behind you, check the festival dates before picking a day, because a busy weekend changes parking, crowds and how quickly a group can move between spots.
The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, a Georgian colonnade whose Walks were laid out in 1638, can be the setting for a smart winter portrait. Town-centre places like these are shared spaces, so a quiet weekday morning gives you more room than a Saturday afternoon in December.
Tell us where you are thinking of and we will suggest a time of day that suits the light and the crowds. For a family portrait at another time of year, see family photography in Kent.

Good to know
Mini session dates at the Northwood studio are released for the season. Call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 to hear them. If cards are the goal, ask in the autumn and say when they need to be posted, so the session is booked in time for the cards.
Yes. Kaushik can come to your Kent home in November or December and photograph the family by the tree, on the sofa or on the stairs. The price is given on request, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote before you book.
Both work. Mote Park in Maidstone is large, with a lake of around 30 acres and plenty of open ground. Dunorlan Park in Tunbridge Wells is smaller, at about 78 acres, with a 6-acre lake. Choose the one nearer home so the children arrive fresh.
Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, for a studio mini session or for a session at your home or in a Kent park. For a Kent session, travel is quoted as its own line in the written quote, so you see the full cost before you book.
Yes. Knole stands in a 1,000-acre deer park immediately south-east of Sevenoaks, which gives open ground and old trees for a winter family group. Keep a respectful distance from the deer, and plan a midday start in December.
Yes, if you ask early in the autumn and tell us your posting date when you first get in touch. The session is then booked in time for the cards, and the edited images come as high-resolution files ready for any card printer or for prints and frames.
Yes. Diwali and Eid sittings for Kent families run in the same short format at the Northwood studio, and a Diwali session can also come to your Kent home among your own diyas and decorations. See the Diwali photoshoot and Eid photoshoot pages, and ask in good time, because the days around Diwali fill quickly.
Kaushik Bathia, FBIPP and FMPA, photographs every session personally and has done so from the Northwood studio since 2001, with five European Kodak Gold Awards along the way.
