The short answer
Your wedding photographer in Tonbridge, at a glance
Kaushik Bathia is an award winning wedding photographer based in London, photographing weddings in Tonbridge and throughout Kent for over twenty five years and more than a thousand celebrations. From the first cup of morning tea to the last dance, we document the whole arc of your day, letting one moment lead naturally into the next. From intimate register office ceremonies to grand country house weddings, and from village churches to garden and marquee celebrations, we photograph every kind of wedding in and around Tonbridge. Being award-winning matters less to us on the day than being unflappable. A missing buttonhole or a late car is a problem we have already solved several dozen times. Engagement shoots, a second photographer for busier days and beautiful fine art albums are all part of what we offer, and we travel throughout Kent and the rest of the UK for your wedding.
A Norman motte and bailey with a surviving gatehouse is not a common wedding backdrop, and Tonbridge Castle uses that to real effect, since the stonework holds shadow well and portraits gain contrast without any lighting fuss. The castle grounds let large family groups be arranged on rising ground, which keeps the back rows visible, and Haysden Country Park nearby offers water and trees when a softer set of frames is wanted. Penshurst Place is the grander alternative and needs travel time allowed for. The town sits on the River Medway with a long history around the castle, and Tonbridge station is a Southeastern junction on the Hastings and Ashford lines, so guests converge from several directions at once. Leigh, Golden Green and Higham Wood fall inside the same coverage, planned by an award winning photographer of 25 years.
Serving Tonbridge
Where your Tonbridge wedding story begins
Every wedding ends up with a queue somewhere inside it. Guests arriving, the receiving line, the wait for a room to be reset. Those are the longest stationary events of the day, they form wherever the building put its doors, and nobody plans light for them. Work out in advance where your queue will stand. Set it against a bright window and every person in it becomes a silhouette, which is the commonest way a good day produces poor pictures.
Kent supplies weather in every month and guarantees none of it. The rain question is the wrong one. Ask instead where the alternative happens, whether that space takes the whole party at no notice, and whether it has a window. Better still is a covered outdoor edge, a porch, an archway, the shelter under a gatehouse, since frames made there survive sun and rain equally.

A Second Photographer
Every kind of wedding
From registry office to temple
Whoever conducts the ceremony stays a stranger until that morning, and their preference governs how much of it may be photographed. One will want the camera parked at the rear and motionless. Another will not mind in the least. Nothing here is rehearsed and none of it runs twice, so the asking happens while you book, never in some corridor ten minutes before. Churches and temples answer separately again, through whoever keeps the building.
Group photographs are not slow because of the camera. They are slow because locating one uncle takes minutes while photographing him takes seconds. A written list solves less than people expect. What solves it is two volunteers, one drawn from each side, who go and do the finding while we carry on working. The list then runs quickly and the afternoon returns to you. Anybody who has already gone to the bar is simply not in the picture, and that has to be acceptable.

Why choose us
The difference a seasoned eye makes
An unfamiliar building stops being a problem once you can read one fast. Where light lands at four. Which wall will hold a person well. Which corner disappears behind a bar by seven. That judgement comes only with repetition, cannot be hurried, and it is the thing a seasoned photographer gets hired for.

Good to know
Wedding photography in Tonbridge, frequently asked questions
Redundancy, not luck. A second body is carried and used, never parked, and each card inside them has a twin taking the same frames. A camera failing during a speech would cost you nothing visible. Cards leave with us and get copied that night.
The rough cut goes first, and it is unsentimental. Colour then gets set picture by picture, since candlelight indoors and a lawn at midday will not take one recipe between them. Your delivery date sits in the contract from the start.
Work backwards from whatever you last want photographed. Should the first dance be the answer, cover runs beyond it. Should it be the cake, you finish earlier and put those hours somewhere more useful.
Everything worth having, minus the frames nobody would ever want. Blinks, half turns, one handshake repeated, a bin in shot. Taking those out is the job, and it turns a folder of files into a set.
Where it earns the trip, yes. Better still is arriving at the hour you booked instead of whenever suits us, since a room at eleven says nothing about that room at five. Otherwise we work from plans and turn up early.
