The short answer

Do you photograph weddings in Kent?

Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs weddings anywhere in Kent, including Dartford, Sevenoaks, Gravesend, Tonbridge, Rochester, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford and Canterbury. Weddings are not tied to a radius, so distance never rules a Kent venue out. Wedding photography starts from £750 with bespoke packages, and because Kent towns are between about 30 and 68 miles from the Northwood studio, the travel is set out in your written quote before you book.

…Kaushik's work is fantastic and he took so much stress out of our special day. He and his team are highly professional, fun and friendly and work with you to capture the shots that you want. He captured some amazing moments of both us and our guests, some natural, some posed but all truly wonderful. We were blown away by our albums and videos and have no hesitation in recommending him to our family and friends.

Reesha G., Google review, 2015

We received our photos really quickly and the quality of them are really nice!! His communication throughout was really good and understood what I wanted. My family were also very happy with Kaushik and the photos.

Laxmi T., Google review, 2023

Excellent photography services before and during our wedding. Really enjoyed him being our photographer and he did a great job with the pictures. Working with him on the albums post wedding has been fantastic, he takes time to understand our ideas and portrays them in his work. Brilliant personality and very professional.

Register offices

Kent register offices, from Dartford to Canterbury

Kent County Council runs its ceremonies through a service called A Kentish Ceremony and lists seven register offices. The county register office is Oakwood House in Oakwood Park, Maidstone, a Victorian mansion in mature gardens with three ceremony rooms: the Kentish Suite for up to 80 guests, the Garden Room with its terrace for up to 40 and the panelled Study for up to 15.

In the north-west, the Dartford register office is the Manor Gatehouse on Priory Road, the surviving part of the manor house Henry VIII built in the 1540s, later given to Anne of Cleves. Its Manor Room takes 35 guests, and the walled garden and the gatehouse front are offered for photographs. Just over the London border, Bexley Register Office sits at Danson House in Danson Park.

West Kent and the Weald use The Mansion House on Grove Hill Road, Tunbridge Wells, an 1886 house overlooking Calverley Park with rooms for 55, 30 and 16. Sevenoaks has no register office of its own. Medway Council runs Medway Register Office at Northgate, Rochester, a short walk from the castle and cathedral, and Canterbury's office is Wellington House beside the River Stour, with a Drawing Room for up to 25.

Venues

The kinds of wedding venue you find across Kent

Kent's approved venues cover a wide range. Across the county you will find listed manor houses with marquee lawns, Georgian country houses with garden terraces, castles with lawns for group photographs, lakeside hotels with outdoor gazebos, golf club suites and converted Kentish barns, some with covered outdoor ceremony areas. Medway adds a few less usual settings, with historic maritime buildings on the council's list of ceremony venues.

Each type shapes the photographs differently. A barn reception gives warm timber and evening light but can be dark inside, so we plan flash carefully. A country house with formal gardens gives the group photographs a natural setting, and a castle courtyard or riverside lawn gives couples' portraits some scale. Tell us your venue and we will look at its layout, licensed rooms and outdoor spaces before the day.

Once you have chosen a venue, send us its name and a rough timetable, and we plan the photographs around its rooms and grounds. Our town pages for Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells go into more local detail on register offices and places for portraits nearby.

Distance and travel

Planning a Kent wedding when your photographer travels from Northwood

Our studio is in north-west London and Kent is on the other side of the capital, so a Kent wedding is always a planned journey. Dartford, the closest town, is about 30 miles from the studio. Sevenoaks and Gravesend are about 35, Rochester and Gillingham about 42 to 44, Maidstone about 46 and Tunbridge Wells about 52. East Kent is furthest: Ashford is about 62 miles away and Canterbury about 68.

None of that limits your coverage. Kaushik arrives in good time for preparations, and for an early start in east Kent we will talk through timings with you well in advance. The travel cost is worked out for your venue and set out in writing as its own line before you book, so you can compare quotes fairly.

If your day moves between places, perhaps a ceremony at the Manor Gatehouse in Dartford followed by a reception further into the county, give us both addresses. We will build the travel between them into the timeline so the couple portraits and group photographs are not rushed.

Light and seasons

Seasons, light and old town settings in Kent

Kent's historic towns give a wedding plenty of character for portraits between the ceremony and the meal. Rochester has its Norman keep, standing 113 feet high, and a cathedral that has been a place of worship since AD 604. Canterbury's Westgate, built around 1380 across the River Stour, is the largest surviving city gate in England, and the Pantiles colonnade in Tunbridge Wells dates back to the seventeenth century.

Summer gives long evenings for portraits after dinner, which suits Kent's garden and lakeside venues. Spring and autumn bring softer light and fewer crowds in the old towns, and winter weddings lean on candlelit interiors and a short, well-planned window of daylight. Note that Rochester holds Dickens Festivals in June and December, so expect busy streets if you plan photographs in the town centre then.

Whatever the month, we talk through sunset times and a wet-weather plan with you. Most Kent venues have an indoor alternative, and Kaushik works with whatever light the day gives, using flash only where it helps.

Planning

Planning around Kent

01

Check the room size

Kent's register office rooms vary a lot, from 15 in the Study at Oakwood House to 80 in its Kentish Suite. Match your guest list to the room before you book.

02

Two councils, one county

Medway Register Office in Rochester is run by Medway Council, while the other Kent offices belong to Kent County Council's A Kentish Ceremony service. Check which one covers your plans.

03

Allow for east Kent mornings

Canterbury is about 68 miles from Northwood. If preparations start early, we agree arrival times in advance so the first photographs are not squeezed.
