Kaushik photographed out wedding on september last year. He was so professional and was great with everyone making them laugh before taking all the snaps. We really couldn't have asked for more he worked hard all day to get the best pictures. We are very pleased with all the pictures and love the photo album. We will differently be using you again in the future Thank you!

Shane T., Google review, 2018

I hired Kaushik for our wedding and I’m extremely glad I did!! Kaushik took amazing pictures and the quality of the pictures were amazing. Kaushik was very patient and was very helpful since the start. My family including our guest were constantly asking me who the photographer was as he gave the best service.

Priya S., Google review, 2023

Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!

Register offices

Berkshire's register offices, one borough at a time

Berkshire has no county council, so each of its unitary boroughs runs its own registration service and ceremony rooms. In Slough, ceremonies take place at The Curve on William Street, where the air-conditioned Elizabeth Room holds up to 50 people, and that number includes guests, witnesses and the photographer. Plan your guest list with that in mind, because a photographer takes one of those places.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead holds register office ceremonies in the Maidenhead Ceremony Room at the Town Hall on St Ives Road, at fixed times, so book that slot first and build the rest of the day around it. In Bracknell Forest, the Ceremonies Room is at Time Square on Market Street and holds up to 38 guests plus the couple; confetti and rice are not allowed in Time Square, so save those photographs for somewhere else.

Wokingham's register office has two licensed rooms: the Wokingham Ceremony Room, available seven days a week for up to 28 people including the couple, and a Register Office room for the couple and two witnesses only. There is no parking there for weekday ceremonies, though hour-long free bays are available near Elms Field. Reading's registration service is based at the Civic Centre on Bridge Street, but ceremonies are held at Reading Museum and Town Hall on Blagrave Street, where the Ceremony Room seats 45 guests plus the couple.

West Berkshire's register office is at Shaw House on the north side of Newbury, a 16th-century Grade I listed building with lawned gardens that suit group photographs after the ceremony. It has a Register Office room for the couple and two witnesses, a Ceremony Room for up to 46 guests, and the Great Hall, licensed in 2023, for up to 100. The council also lists over 30 other licensed ceremony premises across West Berkshire.

Venue types

What Berkshire's licensed wedding venues look like

The council lists of approved premises show how varied a Berkshire wedding can be. Along the Thames around Windsor, Bray and Maidenhead there are riverside hotels and grand houses with lawns that run down towards the water. Around Ascot and Sunninghill there are country house hotels with landscaped gardens, and some of the county's racecourses have function suites. Wokingham borough adds listed mansions, converted barns and a golf club.

Each type asks something different of the photographer. A riverside hotel usually gives you a lawn and water for portraits but can be busy with other guests. A barn has beautiful timber but often low light inside, so we plan flash and window positions early. A racecourse suite is large and modern, which suits big receptions, and its grounds give open space for full-family group photos. Kaushik talks the plan through with you before the day, so each of these is handled on purpose.

Reading Borough Council's own approved list adds civic, riverside and parkland settings inside the town, so a couple marrying in Reading has more than the register office rooms to choose from. Whichever premises you pick, ask how long the grounds are yours after the ceremony, because that decides how relaxed the portraits and the family groups can be.

Seasons and light

Thames light, royal parkland and the Berkshire seasons

Spring is a strong season in east Berkshire. The Valley Gardens in Windsor Great Park cover 250 acres planted with azaleas and magnolias, and the Savill Garden nearby has 35 acres of gardens and woodland. In summer, long evenings mean portraits by the river at Maidenhead or Windsor can wait until the light softens after the meal. Autumn brings colour to the Long Walk, the tree-lined avenue that runs almost 2.5 miles towards Windsor Castle.

Some of the well-placed spots for portraits have seasonal rules worth knowing. Guards Club Island in Maidenhead, with its views of Brunel's Sounding Arch and Maidenhead Bridge, closes from December to June, though the park beside it stays open all year. Ray Mill Island next to Boulter's Lock can close between September and April when river levels are high. In Reading, Caversham Court has terraced lawns down to the Thames and a lavender bank that is at its fullest in high summer.

Winter weddings in Berkshire are lovely but short on daylight, so we plan the couple portraits for straight after the ceremony while it is still light, and use the venue's interiors for the rest. Oak staircases, panelled rooms and open fires feature in some of the county's country house hotels, and those make warm indoor backdrops once the sun has set over the Kennet or the Thames.

Moving between towns

Planning a Berkshire wedding day that crosses borough lines

A Berkshire wedding day can involve two or three places: preparations at home in one town, a ceremony at a register office or church in another, and a reception at a hotel elsewhere. The county is long rather than wide, so a day that runs from Maidenhead to Wokingham is very different from one that runs from Slough to Newbury. We map the day with you and leave sensible gaps between locations.

Rail can help guests a great deal. The Elizabeth line calls at Slough, Maidenhead and Reading, and South Western Railway runs from Waterloo to Ascot, Bracknell and Wokingham. Windsor has two stations, Windsor & Eton Central for the branch from Slough and Windsor & Eton Riverside for trains from Waterloo. Sandhurst station has no car park, which matters if guests are meeting there before a ceremony nearby.

In Reading, the Civic Centre on Bridge Street and the ceremony rooms at Reading Museum and Town Hall are separate buildings an 11-minute walk apart. On the day itself only the Town Hall matters, and Forbury Gardens, with its Maiwand Lion and bandstand, is close by for portraits straight after the ceremony.

Distance

East Berkshire, west Berkshire and what travel means for each

From the Northwood studio, Slough is about 10 miles, Windsor about 12 and Maidenhead about 14, which makes early starts for preparations straightforward. Ascot, Bracknell and Wokingham sit between about 17 and 22 miles away, Reading about 26, and Thatcham and Newbury close to 40. For a wedding at the western end, Kaushik allows extra time in the morning so he is there before the first photographs of the day.

Wherever the venue is, travel from Northwood is quoted in writing as part of your wedding quote, alongside the hours, any second photographer and any album. For a long day in West Berkshire with a late finish, we will talk through the timings honestly so that coverage of the evening is planned, not rushed.

Town guides

Berkshire wedding pages, town by town

If your venue or home is in a particular town, the town pages go into more local detail. Start with Slough, Windsor or Maidenhead for the eastern end of the county, and Ascot or Bracknell for the heath and forest towns in the middle.

For the west, read the guides for Wokingham, Reading and Newbury. If your wedding has Hindu, Sikh or Muslim ceremonies, the Asian wedding photography page for Berkshire covers multi-day planning, and the county Berkshire photographer page lists every other service.

Planning

Planning around Berkshire

01

Count the photographer in Slough

The Elizabeth Room at The Curve holds up to 50 people including guests, witnesses and any photographer, so leave one place free when you write the guest list.

02

No confetti in Time Square

Bracknell Forest does not allow confetti or rice in Time Square outside its Ceremonies Room, so plan the confetti shot at your reception venue instead.

03

Wokingham parking on weekdays

There is no parking at the Wokingham register office for weekday ceremonies; hour-long free bays near Elms Field are the nearest option for you and your guests.

04

Check river island closures

Guards Club Island closes from December to June and Ray Mill Island can close in wet months, so confirm portrait spots by the Thames before the day.

05

Shaw House gardens for groups

West Berkshire's register office at Shaw House has extensive lawns, which give room for a large family group photograph straight after the ceremony.

Weddings in Berkshire: questions answered

Wedding photography with Kaushik Bathia starts from £750. Packages are bespoke, so the price depends on the hours, the number of locations, and extras such as a second photographer, a pre-wedding shoot or a hand-finished album. Travel from Northwood to your Berkshire venue is set out in the written quote.

Each borough has its own. Slough uses The Curve on William Street, the Royal Borough uses the Maidenhead Ceremony Room at the Town Hall, Bracknell Forest uses Time Square, Wokingham has its own register office, Reading holds ceremonies at Reading Museum and Town Hall, and West Berkshire uses Shaw House in Newbury.

Yes, and it varies by room. Slough's Elizabeth Room takes up to 50 people including the photographer, Bracknell's Ceremonies Room up to 38 guests plus the couple, Wokingham's Ceremony Room 28 including the couple, Reading's Ceremony Room 45 plus the couple, and Shaw House's Great Hall up to 100.

Newbury is about 42 miles from the Northwood studio, and Thatcham about 39. Weddings there are covered in full. Kaushik leaves early enough to arrive before preparations begin, and the travel is set out in your written quote before you book.

Every season works with planning. Late spring gives azaleas and magnolias in Windsor Great Park's Valley Gardens, summer gives long evenings by the Thames, and autumn colours the Long Walk. In winter we schedule couple portraits soon after the ceremony to use the remaining daylight.

Yes. The Royal Borough's registrars hold register office ceremonies in the Maidenhead Ceremony Room at the Town Hall on St Ives Road, at fixed times, so book the slot first and plan the photographs around it. Maidenhead is about 14 miles from the studio, and Guards Club Park, which looks at Brunel's Sounding Arch, is one option for portraits afterwards.

Yes. A second photographer is an optional extra, useful when preparations happen in two homes at once or when a large guest list needs covering from two angles. It is added to your quote alongside the hours and travel, so you see the full figure before booking.
