Wedding Photographer in Staffordshire

Kaushik Bathia photographs weddings from Tamworth and Lichfield in the south of Staffordshire to Stafford and the Potteries in the north. Packages start from £750, and because the county is 90 to 123 miles from Northwood, travel and any hotel night are quoted in writing first.

The short answer

Is there a wedding photographer who covers all of Staffordshire?

Yes. Kaushik Bathia covers weddings throughout Staffordshire, from Tamworth, about 90 miles from the Northwood studio, through Lichfield and Burton upon Trent at around 96 to 98 miles, to Stafford at 110 and Stoke-on-Trent at 123. Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!

The shape of the county

From Mercian Tamworth in the south-east to the six towns of the Potteries

Staffordshire is a long county, and where your wedding sits in it changes the plan. Tamworth is on the south-eastern tip, where the rivers Tame and Anker meet, and was the royal centre of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia. Lichfield, with its three-spired cathedral, is a few miles north-west. Burton upon Trent lies on the eastern edge by the Trent, known for its breweries.

Stafford, the county town, sits further north beside the M6 at junctions 13 and 14. Beyond it is Stoke-on-Trent, formed in 1910 from Hanley, Burslem, Longton, Stoke, Tunstall and Fenton and still called The Potteries. A wedding in Lichfield and a wedding in Burslem are very different days to plan, and the distance from Northwood grows by more than 25 miles between them.

Registration offices

Staffordshire registration offices and the rules worth knowing

Staffordshire County Council runs registration offices across the south and centre of the county. The county register office is in the historic County Buildings at Judges Chambers, St Martins Place, Stafford, where the Drawing Room seats 50. Lichfield's office is in the Old Library on Bird Street, an 1856 building next to Beacon Park, and its chandelier-lit ceremony room holds 50 people in total, which includes the couple, the registrars and the photographer.

Burton's office is in the library on Riverside beside the Trent, with a chandeliered ceremony room for up to 50, again counting officiants and photographers. Tamworth's registration office is on the first floor of the library on Corporation Street. If your numbers are close to the limit, remember that Kaushik counts as one of those places.

Stoke-on-Trent is a separate unitary council with different arrangements. Its register office holds ceremonies in the Superintendent Registrar's office on Tuesdays only, for the couple and two witnesses, and cannot accommodate babies or children. Couples who want family present can book the restored ceremony room in the Grade II listed town hall in Stoke on Glebe Street, which takes the couple and up to 60 guests.

Barns, Georgian manors and estate weddings in Staffordshire

Staffordshire's approved venue lists lean towards country buildings. Around Lichfield the choice runs from converted farm barns to exclusive-use country estates that take weddings from a handful of guests to several hundred. Near Burton there are Georgian manor houses with riverside gardens. In Stoke, the city council's approved premises include industrial heritage buildings, historic halls, museums and a football ground.

Town buildings play a part too: council-run halls in Burton and Tamworth hold civil ceremonies, one with stone arches and stained glass, the other in an auditorium. In Stafford, a couple of small heritage buildings in the town centre are licensed for intimate ceremonies. Whatever the style, we go through the plan with you in advance and decide where the light and space are best for the ceremony, the groups and the portraits.

Portrait backdrops

Lichfield Cathedral, castle grounds and riverside gardens

Lichfield has some of the most photogenic public spaces in the county. Minster Pool Walk looks across the water to the cathedral, a pool the poet Anna Seward shaped after visiting the Serpentine in 1772. Beacon Park's Museum Gardens, beside the registration office, have a central fountain and statues of Captain Smith of the Titanic, Edward VII and Erasmus Darwin.

In Tamworth, the Castle Grounds drop in floral terraces from the castle to the River Anker, with a Victorian bandstand on the lawns. Burton has Stapenhill Gardens running 1,250 metres along the Trent and the 1889 Ferry Bridge linking it to the town centre. Further north, Stafford's Victoria Park follows the River Sow, and Trentham Gardens near Stoke has lakeside walks with free woodland paths beyond.

Distance, honestly

Day return or overnight: travelling 90 to 123 miles for a Staffordshire wedding

Tamworth, Lichfield and Burton are the nearest part of the county, at roughly 90 to 98 miles from Northwood. An afternoon wedding there can be covered as a long day. Stafford at about 110 miles and Stoke-on-Trent at about 123 are a different matter, and for a morning start or a late finish an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote.

Your quote lists the package, the travel from Northwood and any overnight stay as separate lines, set out in writing before you book. If you want a second photographer or an engagement shoot, those are listed too, so the full cost is visible in one document.

Planning

Planning around Staffordshire

01

Count the photographer in

Lichfield and Burton ceremony rooms hold 50 people including the couple, registrars and photographer, so leave a seat for Kaushik in your numbers.

02

Stoke's Tuesday rule

Stoke-on-Trent's register office ceremony is Tuesdays only, couple and two witnesses, with no children. The town hall room suits a family audience.

03

North means an overnight

Stafford and Stoke are 110 to 123 miles from Northwood. For early starts, a hotel night is usually sensible and is quoted in writing.

04

Use the registry's neighbour

Lichfield's registration office sits next to Beacon Park, so portraits in the Museum Gardens can follow the ceremony with a short walk.
