Kaushik has created the perfect wedding albums for us to share with our loved ones forever, the family love them and we couldn't have asked for more. Beyond our expectations. A true professional, great communication and an understanding individual throughout the whole process. Thank you!!!

…Kaushik is incredibly talented, artistic, and truly gifted with a photographer’s vision. He knows exactly what he wants each frame to look like and how to get the best out of his subjects. Honestly, there were moments during the shoot when I’d wonder, “What is he making me do?” – but when I saw the final shots, I was blown away. Every image looked beautiful, intentional, and natural.

Amrita A., Google review, 2025

Kaushik is amazing to work with. He is friendly, patient and professional. He has a great eye for detail and goes the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect. The quality of his work is excellent and you can tell he really cares about what he does. Highly recommend!

A county of two halves

From the walled city of York to the River Tees

For weddings, North Yorkshire falls into two very different places on our list. York is the county town of Yorkshire, a walled city whose minster, guild halls and narrow medieval streets give a wedding a strong sense of history. City of York Council provides all local services, including the register office.

Middlesbrough sits in the ceremonial county's far north, on the Tees, in the North East region. It grew rapidly after 1829 into a centre of iron production, known as Ironopolis, and by the mid-1870s made a third of the UK's pig iron. Its wedding settings are Victorian parks, a restored Grade I listed hall and theatres turned into event spaces, with the North York Moors close by.

York and Teesside feel like separate regions, and each wedding is planned on its own terms, with its own route and hotel plan.

Register offices

The Bootham Suite in York and Middlesbrough Town Hall

York Register Office holds ceremonies in the Bootham Suite at 56 Bootham, a room for 2 to 50 guests that opens onto landscaped gardens. Couples get up to 20 minutes in the gardens for photographs after the ceremony, which is generous and worth planning for: we use the time for family groups first, then a few quiet portraits.

Middlesbrough Register Office is inside the Town Hall, entered from Dunning Street between the Town Hall and the Middlesbrough Empire. It has two ceremony rooms of different sizes and no car park of its own, so guests need to plan where to park. The register office can also arrange ceremonies at other licensed venues in the town.

City of York Council keeps a public register of approved venues, last updated on 23 March 2026, which is the place to check before you book a venue in the city.

York venues

Guild halls, civic rooms and country houses

York's licensed venues carry centuries of history. Inside the walls they include medieval guild halls with undercrofts and walled gardens, old buildings set in gardens by the river, and grand civic rooms hired exclusively, several of them for around 120 guests or fewer.

Outside the walls there are country houses in gardens and parkland, and inside them large hotels near the Minster offer exclusive-use weddings for bigger numbers.

Tell us your venue when you enquire. Old buildings often have rules about candles, confetti and where guests can stand, and we plan the ceremony and the group photographs around them.

Portraits in York

Minster views, the walls and a permission to ask for

York Minster, mostly built between 1220 and 1472, has the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in the world in its east window. Dean's Park, on the north side of the Minster and managed by the Dean and Chapter, gives open views of the building. The City Walls walkway is free to walk and circles the centre.

The ten-acre Museum Gardens run from the River Ouse to York Art Gallery, but York Venues asks wedding photographers to get permission first, so we arrange that ahead of the day. Rowntree Park beside the Ouse, given to the city in 1921, has an ornamental lake and a Lych Gate.

The Shambles can be very crowded. If you want it, an early morning visit on another day, or as part of a pre-wedding shoot, works far better than a Saturday afternoon.

Middlesbrough and Teesside

Albert Park, Stewart Park and the edge of the Moors

Albert Park, given to the town by Henry Bolckow and opened in 1868, covers 74 acres and was restored between 2001 and 2004. It has a 7 ft bronze statue of a young Brian Clough. Stewart Park, given in 1928, has Victorian stable buildings, lakes and the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum.

Licensed venues around the town range from historic halls with their own grounds and former theatres turned into event suites, to country house hotels on the edge of the North York Moors.

Middlesbrough is about 208 miles from Northwood, the farthest of the towns on this page. At that distance an overnight stay is usually sensible, and it is set out in your written quote.

Season and travel

Light, crowds and the East Coast Main Line

York is busy with visitors for much of the year, and its streets fill on summer weekends. Weekday or winter weddings give quieter streets for portraits, and in December the short daylight makes a late-morning or midday ceremony sensible.

York station is a principal stop on the East Coast Main Line, 188 miles north of King's Cross, and Middlesbrough has Northern, TransPennine Express and limited LNER services. Your written quote sets out the travel and any hotel nights before you book, and multi-day weddings are costed day by day.
