Weekday Heath portraits
The Hill Garden licence covers two hours, Monday to Friday, with handheld kit only. A Thursday or Friday wedding can include it; a Saturday wedding cannot.

From a 20-guest garden ceremony at George Meehan House to a day that starts at Hendon Town Hall and ends in a banqueting hall, Kaushik photographs North London weddings in every borough. North London coverage starts from £750, with packages built around your plans.
The short answer
Kaushik Bathia, a photographer since 2001 with five European Kodak Gold Awards, photographs weddings in Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Enfield and Islington. Ceremonies range from the register offices at Hendon Town Hall, George Meehan House in Wood Green and Gentleman's Row in Enfield to halls, hotels and homes. Wedding photography starts from £750, and travel from Northwood, 8 to 15 miles away, is set out in your written quote.
We hired Kaushik for our wedding. He was a fantastic photographer, very professional and great to work with. Kaushik was very flexible with timings, he was patient, and produced amazing photos! We received our photos really quickly and the quality of them are really nice!! His communication throughout was really good and understood what I wanted. My family were also very happy with Kaushik and the photos.
Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!
"Kaushik is brilliant photographer and provides a great service, would highly recommend"
Five boroughs, five ceremony services
Unlike a county with one register service, North London is split between five councils, and the borough your venue sits in decides which team conducts the ceremony. Barnet's ceremonies take place at Hendon Town Hall on The Burroughs, which became the register office in February 2017. The Grade II listed building, designed by Thomas Henry Watson and opened in November 1901, has four rooms and holds up to 170, with art deco features and wood panelling inside.
Haringey's office is in the Earlham Suite at George Meehan House, 294 High Road, Wood Green, the old Wood Green Town Hall, built as an Italianate private home around 1865. The Woodside Room seats 79, the Westbury Room 52 and the Earlham Room 22, all including the couple. Between May and September a private garden with a pergola is licensed for outdoor ceremonies of up to 20 guests, and the house sits inside Woodside Park, a Green Flag park since 2016.
Enfield marries couples in the Admiral's Suite at 1 Gentleman's Row, with a rear courtyard for confetti and the New River running past the front. The Council Chamber at the Civic Centre on Silver Street is also approved, for 122 guests. Islington Town Hall on Upper Street offers seven rooms for 2 to 85 guests, and Camden uses its 1937 town hall on Judd Street, from the Regent's Room for 20 to the Council Chamber for up to 160.

Venue types
Away from the register offices, North London's licensed venues fall into a few types. There are historic houses in public parks, licensed for ceremonies in their period rooms. There are golf clubhouses on the Green Belt edge with terraces for drinks. There are large banqueting suites along the main roads of Wood Green, Tottenham and Upper Edmonton, some seating several hundred, and inner-city spaces in Islington and Camden, from art deco halls to converted Victorian buildings.
Each type changes the photography. A historic house often limits where groups can be photographed, so ask the venue early which lawns and rooms are open to you. A banqueting suite gives a big, controlled room but little daylight, so outdoor portraits are planned around a park nearby. An inner-city venue may have no garden at all, which makes a short walk to a square or a canal towpath part of the plan. Kaushik builds the timeline around whichever type you choose.
For the larger halls in the east of the area our venue guides go further, with capacity and parking notes: read the Upper Edmonton venue guide, or the two Wood Green guides, one near Alexandra Park and one on the High Road.
Couple portraits
North London has more green space than visitors expect, but several of the best-known spots have photography rules. On Hampstead Heath the City of London requires a permit, and its two-hour licence for wedding and engagement portraits at the Hill Garden and Pergola runs Monday to Friday only, for handheld equipment. That suits a weekday wedding in Hendon or Camden far better than a Saturday.
Primrose Hill and The Regent's Park are Royal Parks, where wedding photography needs a permit from the park office, issued for up to ten people for one hour. Alexandra Palace asks every photographer for a permit in Alexandra Park. At Stephens House and Gardens in Finchley, the gardens are kept for wedding and family groups whose events are held in the house. Simpler choices remain: Broomfield Park's ponds and conservatory in Palmers Green, Waterlow Park on Highgate Hill, Pymmes Park's walled garden in Upper Edmonton or the lakes of Trent Country Park.

Seasons and light
The George Meehan House garden is licensed only from May to September, and the Hill Garden's pergola is at its greenest in early summer, so an outdoor ceremony or portrait plan points to those months. In spring, Moat Mount and Scratchwood in Mill Hill and Queen's Wood near Highgate carry bluebells and wood anemones, which gives an engagement shoot real colour a few months before the day.
Winter weddings work well here too, because the ceremony rooms are handsome inside. Hendon Town Hall has wood panelling and art deco details, and the Islington Town Hall complex keeps restored 1930s features. In December the light goes early, so portraits outside are taken soon after the ceremony and the rest of the afternoon moves indoors. Kaushik sets the order with you so the outdoor frames are not lost to the dark.
Distance
Wedding days here can move between boroughs: a civil ceremony in Hendon, photographs on the Heath Extension, then a reception further east. The distances are short on a map, but a sensible plan leaves a clear gap between the two venues so the couple are not rushed and the photographs at each place get their proper time.
From Northwood, Mill Hill is about 8 miles, Hendon 8.2, Barnet 8.6, Hampstead 10.5, Wood Green 13, Islington 14.1, Enfield Town 14.6 and Edmonton about 15. Your quote shows the travel from Northwood to each of your venues in writing before you book. Town pages give more detail for Hendon, Barnet, Camden, Islington, Wood Green, Enfield and Edmonton.

Planning
The Hill Garden licence covers two hours, Monday to Friday, with handheld kit only. A Thursday or Friday wedding can include it; a Saturday wedding cannot.
George Meehan House's pergola garden takes ceremonies of up to 20 guests between May and September, inside Green Flag parkland.
Gentleman's Row has a rear courtyard for confetti, a natural place for the first group photograph after an Admiral's Suite ceremony.
If the ceremony is in one borough and the reception in another, leave a clear gap between them, and plan the order of photographs with Kaushik beforehand.
A second photographer, an engagement shoot and a hand-finished album can be added to any North London wedding package.

Good to know
Barnet's register office is at Hendon Town Hall on The Burroughs, NW4, where it moved from Burnt Oak in February 2017. Ceremonies take place in a Grade II listed building of 1901, with the Heritage Room seating up to 45 and the Council Chamber up to 100. Hendon Central on the Northern line and Hendon station on Thameslink serve the area.
Yes, in season. George Meehan House in Wood Green has a private landscaped garden with a pergola, licensed for ceremonies of up to 20 guests between May and September. Larger parties use the Woodside Room, which seats 79 including the couple. The house is surrounded by Woodside Park, so portraits can follow straight after the ceremony.
You can, with a City of London licence. It covers two hours of handheld photography at the Hill Garden and Pergola on weekdays only, not at weekends or on bank holidays. For a Saturday wedding, Waterlow Park, Broomfield Park or the grounds of your own venue are easier choices, and Kaushik will help you pick.
No. Alexandra Palace says it cannot take private social events or smaller bookings, including weddings and receptions. Alexandra Park around it is still a fine setting for portraits, with a rose garden, a boating lake and wide views, but every photographer needs a permit from the palace first, so allow time to arrange one.
Mill Hill is about 8 miles from Northwood and Edmonton about 15, with Hendon, Finchley, Hampstead, Wood Green, Islington and Enfield in between. Kaushik travels to every North London wedding, and the travel appears in your written quote before you book. An early start, for preparations at home, is planned into the same quote.
Yes. Islington's registration service uses seven ceremony rooms at the listed town hall on Upper Street, including the Council Chamber, the Mayor's Parlour and the Angel Suite, for 2 to 85 guests. Kaushik can photograph a ceremony in any of them, then portraits in Camden Passage, the 1767 lane off Upper Street near Angel station.
Wedding photography starts from £750. Packages are built around your day, from a short register office ceremony to a full day with a reception, and a second photographer, an engagement shoot or an album can be added. Your written quote shows the travel from Northwood, so the figure is clear before you book.
