Newport, Cardiff and Swansea sit in a line along the South Wales coast, between about 111 and 152 miles from our Northwood studio. Kaushik Bathia photographs weddings in all three, with the travel and any overnight stay set out in writing before you book.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia covers weddings in Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and the Gower. Newport is about 111 miles from the Northwood studio, Cardiff about 119 and Swansea about 152, so a South Wales wedding is planned as a travelling booking. For a South Wales wedding an overnight stay is usually sensible, and it is set out in your written quote. Wedding photography starts from £750, and the travel is itemised in writing before you book.

Fantastic photographer with great attention to detail. Very professional and easy to work with, and the final photos were outstanding. The whole process was smooth and enjoyable. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again or recommend to others.
Kaushik was exceptional at creating our wedding photo album! He designed it so beautifully and his customer service was the best. The album quality and design is amazing, we loved it! Wow what a great job. Highly recommend for photo albums.
The shape of the region
South Wales, for a wedding couple, is really three cities strung along the coast. Newport, on the River Usk about 12 miles north-east of Cardiff, is the first you reach from England and the nearest to us. Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales. Swansea, the second-largest city, lies further west on its bay, with the Gower Peninsula beyond it.
Each has its own character. Newport has Victorian parkland and a 17th-century brick mansion on its edge. Cardiff has its civic centre in Portland stone, a castle with 2,000 years of history and a rebuilt waterfront at Cardiff Bay. Swansea, once called Copperopolis for its copper smelting, is the birthplace of Dylan Thomas and the gateway to the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK.
A wedding day can easily involve two of them: preparations in one city and a reception in another. Give us every address at the start, and the movement between them is planned into the timeline.

Registration
Newport City Council runs the city's registration service, based at the Mansion House near the city centre, and couples can view the ceremony rooms before they book. If you are marrying in Newport, that visit is worth making with your phone camera: note where the windows are and how much room there is behind the registrar's table, and send us the pictures.
In Swansea, the Swansea Bay Ceremony Rooms at the Civic Centre (SA1 3SN) are on the council's list of approved ceremony venues. Swansea Council says a registrar for a ceremony at an approved venue can be booked up to two years ahead, which helps if you are fixing a summer date on the Gower well in advance.
Whichever city you choose, book the registrar and the photographer in the same month. It keeps the ceremony time fixed early, and the rest of the day's photography plan follows from that one time.
Distance and stays
We are honest about distance. Newport is about 111 miles from our studio in Northwood, Cardiff about 119 and Swansea about 152, and the Gower adds more again. For a morning start with early preparations, an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance, and it is set out in your written quote so the photography can begin on time.
Travel from Northwood is costed for your venue, and any overnight stay is listed on its own line in the written quote before you book. If your wedding spans more than one day, such as a civil ceremony on Friday and a reception on Saturday, each day is planned separately and any nights in between appear in the same quote.
For guests coming from London, Newport station has Great Western Railway trains to London Paddington via Bristol Parkway and Reading, and Swansea station has Great Western trains to Paddington too. Cardiff's main stations are Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street.

Kinds of venue
The approved venue lists across South Wales are varied. Newport's licensed list mixes council buildings, a park pavilion, hotels, a golf club, large conference spaces and historic buildings by the water. Swansea's choices run from city-centre hotels and civic rooms to exclusive-use country houses on the Gower with lawns for marquees, and rural barns with accommodation for guests.
Cardiff adds museums and historic buildings that hire out spaces for weddings, alongside its civic centre. Each type changes the photography. A marquee on a lawn gives soft, even light; a Victorian hall gives height and ornament for the evening; a coastal hotel gives sea views and wind.
Send us your venue when you enquire. We look at its layout and outdoor spaces before the day and plan portraits around them.
Portraits
In Newport, Belle Vue Park was designed by Thomas Mawson and opened in 1894, with conservatories, a restored bandstand and cascades, and it is on the Cadw/ICOMOS register of historic parks. Tredegar House, Grade I listed and run by the National Trust, sits in about 90 acres of gardens and parkland. The Transporter Bridge is closed for repairs and not expected to reopen until 2027, though it still stands as a backdrop.
Cardiff has Bute Park behind the castle, with an arboretum of more than 3,000 catalogued trees, and Roath Park, whose 30-acre lake has a 1915 lighthouse commemorating Captain Scott's Antarctic voyage. City Hall's Edwardian Baroque front and 59-metre clock tower suit formal pictures.
In Swansea, Singleton Park has a walled botanical garden and boating lake, Clyne Gardens has a Japanese garden with a red and white bridge, and Mumbles Pier marks the south-western corner of the bay.

Weather along this coast can change through the day, so for every South Wales wedding we agree a dry place for group photographs before the morning. A conservatory, a covered terrace or a hotel lobby keeps the schedule intact if the rain comes in off the sea.

Bute Park behind the castle, Roath Park with its lake and lighthouse, and the civic centre around City Hall are all within the city. Cardiff Bay, with the Senedd and the Wales Millennium Centre, gives a modern waterfront setting.
Yes. The two cities are about 12 miles apart, so preparations in one and a reception in the other is very workable. Give us both addresses and we will build the move into the timeline.
