What couples say

…Kaushik is incredibly talented, artistic, and truly gifted with a photographer’s vision. He knows exactly what he wants each frame to look like and how to get the best out of his subjects. Honestly, there were moments during the shoot when I’d wonder, “What is he making me do?” – but when I saw the final shots, I was blown away. Every image looked beautiful, intentional, and natural.

Excellent photography services before and during our wedding. Really enjoyed him being our photographer and he did a great job with the pictures. Working with him on the albums post wedding has been fantastic, he takes time to understand our ideas and portrays them in his work. Brilliant personality and very professional.

Faith communities

Mosques, gurdwara and churches: where the ceremonies happen

Newport has more than 50 churches, seven mosques and a synagogue, and the nearest gurdwara is in Cardiff. At the 2011 census, 5.5% of Newport residents described themselves as Asian. In practice that means a Muslim couple in Newport may hold the nikah at a local mosque or at home, while a Sikh couple from Newport may well hold the anand karaj in Cardiff.

Tell us your mosque, gurdwara or mandir when you enquire, along with any guidance it gives on photography, and Kaushik plans where to stand and when to stay still around it. If the gurdwara is in Cardiff and the family home in Newport, give us both addresses.

Hindu ceremonies, with the mandap, the pheras and the jaimala, can be held at home, at a hall or at a hotel, depending on the family. Wherever it is, send us the layout so we can plan the angles before the day.

Planning across days

A South Wales Asian wedding, planned one day at a time

A South Asian wedding can run over several days: a mehndi or maiyan at home, a haldi on the morning, the religious ceremony, a walima or a reception. At 111 to 152 miles from our studio, we plan the whole programme as one trip to South Wales rather than travelling back and forth between events.

We price each day on its own, with its own hours and location, and then add the travel from Northwood and any nights of accommodation as separate lines in the written quote. You can then decide which events need full coverage and which just need an hour of family portraits.

Cardiff and Newport are about 12 miles apart, so a mehndi in Newport and a ceremony in Cardiff the next day is straightforward. Swansea is further west, and we plan any move between cities into the timeline in advance.

Civil ceremony

The civil ceremony alongside the religious one

You can register the marriage separately from the religious ceremony. Newport's registration service is at the Mansion House, where you can view the ceremony rooms before booking, and Swansea's Civic Centre has the Swansea Bay Ceremony Rooms. A short civil ceremony a few days before the main wedding gives you a calm, formal set of photographs with close family.

In Swansea, a registrar for an approved venue can be booked up to two years ahead, so if you want the civil vows at your reception venue, secure the registrar as soon as the date is fixed.

Large receptions

Receptions for hundreds of guests along the M4 cities

The bigger the guest list, the more the order of the day matters. We settle the family group photographs with you before the day and take the largest groups first while everyone is still fresh, so the couple are soon free to greet guests.

Large halls with stages need a plan for the couple's entrance, the cake, the speeches and the dancing. Tell us where the stage and the doors are and the running order, and Kaushik works out where to be for each. An optional second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time.

Cardiff's civic centre and its museums, Newport's hotels and conference halls and Swansea's city hotels all appear on their councils' approved lists. Tell us which you have chosen and we plan around its rooms.

Portraits in outfits

Where to take couple portraits between events

Bridal outfits deserve a setting with space. In Newport, Tredegar House stands in about 90 acres of landscaped gardens, and Belle Vue Park has Victorian conservatories and a bandstand. In Cardiff, Bute Park's arboretum and Roath Park's lake give two very different looks within a short drive.

In Swansea, Singleton Park in Sketty is the city's largest urban park, and Clyne Gardens at Blackpill holds National Collections of rhododendrons, which bring colour in spring. Mumbles Pier gives a sea backdrop for a pre-wedding shoot.

Planning

Planning around South Wales

01

Check the gurdwara's guidance

Newport's nearest gurdwara is in Cardiff. Ask yours about photography during the anand karaj and share it with us before the day.

02

Price each day

Every event day is priced separately, and the nights in South Wales are added as accommodation lines in the same written quote.

03

Use the civil ceremony

A short civil ceremony in Newport or Swansea gives a calm set of formal photographs before the main celebration.

04

Plan the Cardiff to Newport move

The two cities are about 12 miles apart, so a mehndi in one and a ceremony in the other works. Build the drive into the day's timings.
