Thank you for capturing our special day so well and creating beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We love our stunning wedding album! You took the time to get to know us from the pre-shoot right up until the wedding day and made us feel comfortable and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun along the way especially with your silly little jokes to get us to laugh!

Bradford and Dewsbury: where the calendar is busiest

West Yorkshire has some of the highest Asian populations in England. At the 2021 census, 32.1% of Bradford's population identified as Asian or Asian British, and Dewsbury's 63,722 residents were 44.4% Asian. That makes Muslim weddings, with a mehndi, nikah, baraat and walima, a large part of the wedding year here, alongside Hindu and Sikh celebrations in Leeds and beyond.

Bradford held the UK City of Culture title for 2025 and was named the world's first UNESCO City of Film in 2009. Cartwright Hall, its art gallery in Lister Park, holds early work collected from South Asian and Black artists, and the park's Mughal Water Garden combines Islamic and Indian styles with channels, cascades and nine fountains.

This page sets out how a multi-day West Yorkshire wedding comes together, from the first mehndi to the last dance.

Purpose-built halls

Banqueting venues with nikah suites and halal kitchens

Bradford and Dewsbury have venues built specifically for Asian weddings. Some offer a private nikah suite, a separate mehndi space and a halal-certified kitchen, with suites from about 200 up to 500 guests, and Dewsbury has its own Asian wedding venues with in-house catering for the mehndi, nikah and walima.

For the very largest receptions, Leeds has halls that take well over a thousand guests, and country hotels on the edge of the city host Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and interfaith weddings, some with specialist outside caterers allowed.

Every hall sets its stage up in its own way, so tell us where the couple's entrance starts and roughly how long the walima greeting line will run.

Nikah, mehndi and walima in Bradford and Kirklees

The nikah may be held at a mosque, at home or in a hall's nikah suite. Kaushik keeps coverage quiet and still during the ceremony and during prayers, follows the imam's guidance and agrees with the family in advance which moments should not be photographed.

The mehndi is colourful and fast-moving, with music, dancing and family performances, while the walima is more formal, with the couple on stage and a long line of guests. We plan each as a separate event with its own coverage and travel line.

Hindu and Sikh weddings

Pheras and laavan in Leeds and Huddersfield

Hindu weddings follow the haldi, sangeet, baraat, jaimala, pheras and vidaai, and each part has its own pace. Kaushik moves around the mandap without crowding the priest and keeps the key moments, the garlands, the knot and the steps around the fire, in clear view. The national Hindu weddings page explains the full sequence.

A Sikh wedding morning at a gurdwara starts with the milni and moves inside for the anand karaj. Shoes come off and heads are covered, and the photographer's position during the laavan is agreed with the granthi beforehand. Tell us your gurdwara or mandir and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan around it. See Sikh weddings.

Distance

Costing a West Yorkshire wedding from Northwood

We are honest that a West Yorkshire wedding is a long trip for us. Every event gets its own line in a written quote, showing the coverage and the travel, and any overnight stays between events are agreed in writing before you book.

Between a Friday mehndi and a Sunday walima, an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote. If one family is getting ready in Bradford and the other in Dewsbury, a second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time.

For the civil side, Bradford City Hall's Priestley Suite allows one designated photographer during the ceremony, so let the registrar know who it is. Also see the Leeds Asian wedding guide.

Planning

Planning around West Yorkshire

01

Name Kaushik at City Hall

Bradford's Priestley Suite admits one designated photographer during the ceremony, so tell the registrar before a civil wedding ahead of the nikah.

02

List every event

Mehndi, nikah, baraat, walima, sangeet or anand karaj: each gets its own date, address and start time in the plan.

03

Agree what stays private

Tell us before the day which moments of the nikah or prayers the family would rather not have photographed.

04

Weigh a stay between days

With 151 to 162 miles to Northwood, an overnight stay between events is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote.
