…Kaushik is incredibly talented, artistic, and truly gifted with a photographer’s vision. He knows exactly what he wants each frame to look like and how to get the best out of his subjects. Honestly, there were moments during the shoot when I’d wonder, “What is he making me do?” – but when I saw the final shots, I was blown away. Every image looked beautiful, intentional, and natural.

How the week fits together

Where central London fits into a multi-day Asian wedding

An Asian wedding rarely happens in one place. A mehndi, a sangeet or a maiyan can take place at home or in a hall near the family, and the religious ceremony at a mandir, a gurdwara or a mosque. Central London tends to hold one or two parts of the week: the civil ceremony in a council room, a reception in a Westminster hotel or a City hall, and the couple portraits among the landmarks.

Kaushik covers each event as its own part of the story. We start with a list of every event, its address and its timing, then plan the travel between them. Westminster is about 14.1 miles from our studio and the City about 15, so the central London days are planned as carefully as the ones nearer home.

Read the Asian wedding photography page for how we work across the whole celebration, and our guide to Asian wedding venues near London if you are still choosing where to hold each event.

Civil ceremony sizes

85 guests in Islington, 100 on Marylebone Road, 338 in Chelsea

The legal ceremony can be the smallest event of the week, and central London has rooms to suit every size. Islington Town Hall, which handles City of London marriages, has seven rooms for 2 to 85 guests. Westminster's Old Marylebone Town Hall has seven rooms too, the largest being the walnut-panelled Westminster Room for 100.

For a bigger family, Kensington and Chelsea's ceremonies take place at Chelsea Old Town Hall on King's Road, where the Small Hall holds up to 138 guests and the Main Hall up to 338. That is close enough to the centre to pair with a reception in Westminster, and large enough for the whole family to see the vows.

Every one of these rooms runs to a set time, so we plan arrivals and group photographs around it. On Marylebone Road and at Mayfair Library, confetti is allowed on the outside steps only, and it must be biodegradable.

Guests and logistics

Moving 300 guests through a city of 272 stations

Large guest lists are where a central London Asian wedding needs the most planning. The Underground has 11 lines and 272 stations, and Liverpool Street alone is served by the Elizabeth line and four Underground lines, so guests can reach a City reception by train. For Westminster, the station on Bridge Street takes the Circle, District and Jubilee lines.

Cars are harder. Hyde Park has two public car parks reached from West Carriage Drive, and venues usually have their own arrangements for drop-off. Ask your venue about coach drop-off, parking and how many guests its rooms hold before you send invitations.

A baraat in central London needs agreement in advance. Ask your venue and the local council what is allowed on the street or forecourt outside, and send us the answer so we can position ourselves for the dhol and the arrival. A second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time.

Portraits between events

Couple portraits from Trafalgar Square to Leadenhall Market

Couple portraits can be a good reason to bring one part of the celebration into central London. Trafalgar Square, opened in 1844, is faced by the National Gallery and St Martin-in-the-Fields, with Nelson's Column at its centre and the fourth plinth showing changing artworks. Leadenhall Market's Grade II listed iron and glass roof, designed by Horace Jones in 1881, gives colour and cover in any weather.

Plan permissions for anything more than a quick walk. The Royal Parks need a wedding and lifestyle photography permit for St James's Park and Hyde Park, covering up to ten people for one hour. The City of London Corporation licenses organised wedding shoots in its gardens and churchyards. Bright lehengas, sherwanis and heavy jewellery read well against Barry's Gothic stonework at Westminster or the brick of the Barbican.

A pre-wedding shoot is a good way to try these places first. Our pre-wedding locations guide covers London settings in more detail.

Faith ceremonies

Hindu, Sikh and Muslim weddings with a central London base

Each tradition has its own rituals and its own page. A Hindu wedding with a reception in Westminster is covered on our central London Hindu wedding page; an Anand Karaj followed by a City reception on the Sikh wedding page; and a nikah and walima on the Muslim wedding page.

For local detail, see our pages for an Asian wedding photographer in Westminster and in the City of London. Name your mandir, gurdwara or mosque when you enquire, along with any guidance it gives on cameras, and the central London plan is built to respect it.

Planning

Planning around Central London

01

Match the room to the family

Islington takes up to 85 guests, the Westminster Room 100 and Chelsea's Main Hall 338. Choose the civil room by how many relatives want to watch the vows.

02

List every event

Send each event's date, address and start time. Central London days are planned around traffic and parking, not only the distance from Northwood.

03

Agree the baraat

Ask the venue and the council what is allowed outside before the day, and share it with us so we can be in place for the arrival.

04

Trains for guests

Liverpool Street has the Elizabeth line and four Underground lines, and Westminster station the Circle, District and Jubilee lines. Put the nearest station on the invitation.

05

Permit the portraits

St James's Park and Hyde Park need a Royal Parks permit for up to ten people for one hour. City gardens need a Corporation licence.
