The short answer

Do you photograph newborns at home in Central London?

Yes. Kaushik Bathia comes to your home in Westminster, Marylebone, Pimlico, Maida Vale or the City of London, about 14 to 15 miles from his Northwood base, for newborn sessions in the first 5 to 14 days, when babies sleep deeply and curl up naturally. The session follows your baby's feeds and sleep. Get in touch before your due date so a provisional slot can be pencilled in. Travel is set out in writing before you book, and prices are given on request.

Me and my heavily pregnant Fiancee visited here as a birthday gift from a friend of hers and had a LOVELY experience, Kaushik made us feel VERY welcomed and comfortable and we also had a good laugh. He was also very clear and precise with his instruction with regards to posing so we could get the best picture. Overall a very nice experience and would recommend.

We had a baby and family photo shoot with Kaushik over the weekend. He was extremely professional and very good with our baby! He has all the tricks and toys to make our little one smile and laugh during the shoot (which kept us entertained too!) would highly recommend Kaushik for baby photo shoots! Many thanks for capturing such beautiful photos for us!

Timing

Pencilling in a newborn slot before the due date

Babies photograph most peacefully in the first 5 to 14 days, while they still sleep deeply and fold into the curled positions they held before birth. The simplest way to land inside that window is to get in touch during pregnancy. We pencil in a provisional date around your due date and firm it up once the baby arrives, whether that is early, late or right on time.

The first days home are a blur of visitors, feeds and midwife appointments. Give yourselves a day or two to settle, then pick a morning when nobody else is due to call round. The session runs at the baby's pace, with feeds, changes and cuddles built in rather than squeezed around a clock, so keep the rest of that day free if you can.

Your home

Turning a flat in Westminster or the Barbican into a newborn set

Plenty of central London homes are flats, often with one room that gets the best of the daylight. That room becomes the set. We need a clear area about the size of a double bed near the window, somewhere to change the baby and a comfortable chair for whoever is feeding. A mansion flat in Maida Vale and a home in the Barbican's terrace blocks around the lake work the same way: daylight, a calm corner and time.

Newborns lose heat quickly when undressed, so turn the heating up well before the session, warmer than adults find comfortable. Every pose is led by the baby's mood and nothing is forced. Comfort and safety come first throughout, and you can stay right beside your baby for the whole session.

Older brothers and sisters are welcome in the frame. We photograph them first, while they are fresh, then let them get back to their own day while the baby sleeps on. A grandparent holding the baby is a picture worth planning for, so if someone is visiting from abroad for the birth, try to fit the session into their stay.

Getting there

About 14 miles in from Northwood, and what that means for you

Westminster is about 14.1 miles from Northwood and the City of London about 15, so a central London newborn session is a come-to-you visit rather than a pop-in. There is nothing for you to arrange beyond a parking suggestion and building access details, if your block has a concierge or an entry system. Travel from Northwood to central London is quoted up front and shown in writing before you book.

If you would rather come out of town, newborn sessions can also take place at the Northwood studio, a warm, calm room two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line. That line also serves Liverpool Street and Moorgate, which helps City parents, though with a week-old baby, staying at home is usually the simpler choice.

What to have ready

A short checklist for a newborn morning at home

Have a feed ready to go, spare babygrows, a dummy if you use one and a favourite wrap. Plain muslins and blankets in soft colours suit the pictures. Move chargers, bottles and laundry out of the chosen room, and if you want family shots, pick simple clothes in muted tones for the adults. Then let the baby set the pace.

Afterwards you view an online gallery and choose favourites in your own time, with no pressure. Fine-art prints, framed pieces and a handcrafted album can be ordered, so the first weeks end up on a wall rather than lost in a phone. Our newborn and baby photography page covers each stage of the first year.

Before and after

Bump portraits in The Green Park, a first birthday later on

If you are reading this while still pregnant, a maternity session in Central London between about 28 and 34 weeks pairs naturally with the newborn shoot, and the two can be combined into one package. A bump portrait at home, or among the wildflower meadows of The Green Park with a Royal Parks permit, followed by the newborn a few weeks later, tells the story in order.

Around 6 to 9 months, once your baby sits unaided, a sitter session marks the next stage. The year closes with a cake smash for a central London first birthday, photographed at Northwood with the backdrop and splash set. In between, a family session in Central London can bring everyone into one frame.

Planning

Planning around Central London

01

Book in pregnancy

A provisional date around your due date keeps a slot open for the first 5 to 14 days. Call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 with the date.

02

Concierge and entry codes

If your building has a concierge, entry codes or a lift to book, send the details ahead so the morning starts calmly.

03

Warm the room

Turn the heating up well before the session. A newborn out of their clothes needs a warmer room than adults find comfortable.

04

Siblings first

Older children are photographed early while they are fresh, then they can carry on with their day while the baby sleeps.

Good to know

Newborn photography in Central London: questions answered

Ideally during pregnancy. We pencil in a provisional date around your due date, then confirm it once the baby arrives, so the session can fall within the first 5 to 14 days. If your baby is already home, get in touch anyway, because a date may still be available.

No. A space about the size of a double bed near a good window is enough, along with somewhere to change the baby and a seat for feeding. Flats in Pimlico, Marylebone or the Barbican work just as well as a house, because the light from one good window does most of the work.

Warmer than adults find comfortable, because a newborn loses heat quickly when undressed. Turn the heating up well before the session starts and keep windows closed. If you are unsure about a room, describe it when you book and we can talk it through.

Yes, parents, siblings and grandparents are welcome in the frame. Older children are photographed first, while they are fresh and interested. If a grandparent is flying in for the birth, plan the session for a day while they are still in London so they are in the pictures too.

Westminster is about 14.1 miles from Northwood and the City of London about 15. Kaushik comes to you, so all you need to share is your address, any parking advice and the building access details. The travel part of the arrangement is set out in your written quote before you book.

A newborn session at home in central London is priced on request: call or WhatsApp 07956 505383. The figure depends on what you choose to take home, from a digital gallery to prints and a handcrafted album, and a bump session can be folded into the same package.

Your baby's comfort and safety lead everything we do on the day. Every pose is led by your baby's mood, nothing is forced, and you stay close by for the whole session. Feeds, changes and cuddles happen whenever the baby needs them, and the session simply pauses until they settle again.
