The short answer

Can I have newborn photography at home in Kent?

Yes. Kaushik Bathia offers newborn photography at home across Kent, including Dartford, Sevenoaks, Gravesend, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford and Canterbury. Sessions are calm and baby-led, ideally in the first five to fourteen days, with the room kept warm and time allowed for feeds. You can also visit the Northwood studio. Kent homes are about 30 to 68 miles from the studio, so travel is quoted in writing before you book, and session prices are given on request.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Kent, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

Me and my heavily pregnant Fiancee visited here as a birthday gift from a friend of hers and had a LOVELY experience, Kaushik made us feel VERY welcomed and comfortable and we also had a good laugh. He was also very clear and precise with his instruction with regards to posing so we could get the best picture. Overall a very nice experience and would recommend.

Kaushik has photographed my wife and me for the bump to baby photo shoot. We really enjoyed it. He knows how to make us smile and look happy and relaxed. We really appreciate his work and we look forward to meet him on our next appointment for the newborn photo shoot! Thank you again Kaushik!

Great service and fantastic photos taken of myself and family. We were given a very warm welcome by Kaushik and I feel that was also reflected in the photos he took. So very pleased with the photos and would highly recommend Kaushik.

At home

Newborn photography in your Kent home

In the first fortnight, the idea of packing a car and driving anywhere can feel like a lot. That is why most Kent newborn sessions take place at home. Kaushik comes to you with soft portable lighting, wraps and a few simple props, and sets up near a window in whichever room is warmest and quietest.

The session moves at your baby's pace. There are breaks for feeding, changing and settling, and nobody minds if a nappy change takes twenty minutes. Kaushik photographs the baby alone, then with parents and siblings, and captures the small details: hands, feet, hair and the first expressions that change so quickly.

Allow around two to three hours, as newborns set the timetable. Because Kaushik travels from Northwood, the travel to your Kent address is set out in writing alongside the session price, which we give on request.

Safety and warmth

Keeping your baby safe, warm and comfortable

Safety comes before any pose. Kaushik works close to the floor, keeps a hand near the baby at all times and never attempts the composite poses that look dramatic but need careful editing to be safe. A parent stays close throughout, and if your baby is unsettled, we pause.

Newborns lose heat quickly, so we ask you to warm the room before Kaushik arrives, to around the temperature you would use for a bath. A small heater is fine as long as it is kept well away from the baby. Soft blankets, a quiet room and a full tummy make the biggest difference.

Wraps and props are clean before every session. If you have something special, such as a knitted blanket from a grandparent or a family heirloom, have it ready and we will include it.

Timing

When to book a newborn session in Kent

Babies are usually sleepiest and curl up most easily in the first five to fourteen days. We suggest getting in touch during pregnancy, giving us your due date and your town in Kent, and then confirming the exact session date once your baby arrives. We hold a window around the due date and adjust if your baby comes early or late.

Older babies are photographed too. A baby of a few weeks or months is often more awake, which means eye contact and the first smiles rather than the curled sleepy poses. Our baby photography page explains how sessions change as babies grow.

Distance and the studio

Travel from Northwood to Kent, and the studio option

We want you to know the distance before you plan anything. Our studio is at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, and even Dartford, the closest Kent town, is about 30 miles away, while homes near Canterbury are about 68.

Kaushik still travels to homes across the county, and travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book. You may prefer the studio instead, especially in winter, or when a partner can drive and the baby sleeps well in the car. The studio is warm, prepared before you arrive and two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line.

Both options are photographed with the same care. Tell us what feels easier and we will plan around it.

Siblings and next steps

Siblings, maternity and the first birthday

Older brothers and sisters are welcome. We photograph them first, while their attention lasts, then let them go off to play while the baby is photographed alone. A few calm photographs of siblings holding the baby, with a parent close by, are often the ones families value most.

You can book a maternity photoshoot before the birth, at home or in a local park, and come back for a cake smash photoshoot around the first birthday. Later on, our Kent family photography sessions follow the family as it grows. For all our Kent services, see the Kent photographer page.

Planning

Planning around Kent

01

Book before the birth

Send your due date and Kent town during pregnancy. We hold a window and confirm the exact date once your baby arrives.

02

Warm the room

Before Kaushik arrives, heat the room to bath-time warmth. A sleepy, warm baby settles far more easily for photographs.

03

Home or studio

Kent homes are 30 to 68 miles from Northwood. If that travel line is a concern, the warm, ready studio is a simple alternative.

04

Feed just before

A full tummy just before photographs start helps your baby sleep through the first set, and we pause for more feeds whenever needed.
