The short answer

Do you do newborn photography at home in Oxfordshire?

Yes. Kaushik comes to your home in Oxford, Bicester, Banbury or nearby, ideally between 5 and 14 days after birth, when babies sleep deeply and curl easily. He brings soft wraps, blankets and lighting, asks for a warm room and works around feeds. Oxford and Bicester are about 38 miles from the Northwood studio and Banbury about 51, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Oxfordshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

Great service! Kaushik was able to capture some beautiful shots for my maternity baby and bump shoot. He was very helpful and guided me with the poses throughout the shoot. I love the pictures & I’m looking forward to having the final edits!

Really appreciated the effort that went into the photoshoot and getting my baby to smile for the photos. Lovely photos to take home. Would recommend.

I took my elderly parents to have photos path the grandchildren. The whole experience from photo shoot to choosing and picking up the photos was amazing. Kaushik was polite helpful and friendly and made all the kids and my elderly parents feel comfortable. They all enjoyed the experience and the photos were amazing. He even delivered them home on Christmas Eve!

Timing

Booking around your due date in Oxfordshire

The first 5 to 14 days are the window for curled, sleepy newborn poses. After that, babies wake more easily and stretch out, which suits a more alert, open style instead. Because Oxfordshire is 38 to 51 miles from Northwood, we pencil in your due date during pregnancy and confirm the exact day once your baby arrives, so planning starts before the birth rather than after it.

Message us by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383 when your baby is born, with the date and how feeding is going. If the birth was early, by caesarean or simply tiring, the session can move later into the second week, or to the studio once you feel ready to travel.

At home

How an at-home newborn session works

Kaushik arrives with soft wraps, blankets and lighting, and sets up near your brightest window. We ask for the room to be warm, around 24 to 26 degrees, because an unwrapped newborn loses heat quickly. Sessions run at the baby's pace, usually two to three hours, with pauses for feeds, changes and cuddles, and you stay close the whole time.

Safety comes before any pose. Babies are posed only in supported positions with a parent's hand nearby, and are never left alone on a raised surface. Nothing is forced: if your baby does not want to curl, we photograph them as they are, which gives natural, honest pictures.

Family

Siblings, parents and the rest of the household

Older brothers and sisters are photographed first, while they are fresh, and then they can go and play. A toddler holding a sleeping baby is set up with a parent's hands just out of frame. Portraits of each parent with the baby, close-ups of hands and feet and a family group are all part of the session, and a calm family pet can join for a frame.

Grandparents often visit in the first fortnight, and if they are staying with you in Oxfordshire that week, they can be included too. Tell us in advance who will be there, so we can plan the order and keep the baby's routine intact.

Studio option

Coming to the Northwood studio from Oxfordshire

Some parents prefer to bring the baby to us, where the room is already warm and set up. The studio is at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, two minutes from Northwood Hills station, about 38 miles from Oxford and Bicester and about 51 from Banbury. That is a long drive with a newborn, so we only suggest it if you feel up to it, or if you are already visiting family closer to London.

Whichever you choose, the session price is given on request by phone or WhatsApp, and for a home session, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book. Our baby photography page has more on outfits, props and what to expect.

Maternity before, cake smash after

If you are still expecting, a maternity session at 28 to 34 weeks, at home or on an Oxfordshire meadow, sits naturally before the newborn shoot. See maternity photography in Oxfordshire for settings and timing, from Port Meadow beside the Thames to a quiet room at home.

Around the first birthday, a cake smash is a happy follow-on, and later sessions in the parks, from Spiceball Country Park in Banbury to Bure Park in Bicester, are covered on our Oxfordshire family photography page.

Planning

Planning around Oxfordshire

01

Book during pregnancy

Pencil in your due date in the second or third trimester, then confirm the day once your baby arrives, since Oxfordshire is a drive of 38 to 51 miles.

02

Warm the room

Heat the room you will use to around 24 to 26 degrees before Kaushik arrives, so your baby stays comfortable when unwrapped.

03

Feed just before

A full baby sleeps more deeply, so plan a feed as the session starts and keep a muslin and a spare outfit to hand.

04

Clear a corner

A space about two metres square beside a window is enough room for the beanbag, the lighting and a chair for you.

  • Garth Park: Garth Park on Launton Road is Bicester's town park, where Bicester Town Council is based at The Garth; the park has an inclusive play area and a skate park that opened in February 2019. 2
  • Bure Park Local Nature Reserve: Bure Park is an 8.4 hectare (21 acre) Local Nature Reserve in Bicester with grassland, scrub, woodland and hedges, through which the River Bure runs; it is owned by Bicester Town Council and managed by Cherwell District Council. 3

Newborn photography in Oxfordshire: questions answered

Between 5 and 14 days after birth suits sleepy, curled poses. Older babies can still be photographed well, just in a more awake, stretched-out style. For an Oxfordshire home session, message us on the day your baby is born so we can agree a date inside that window.

Yes, with care. The room is kept warm, hands are washed, the baby is posed only in supported positions with a parent nearby, and nothing is attempted that the baby resists. Kaushik has been photographing families since 2001 and works at your baby's pace throughout.

Around two to three hours, most of it spent settling, feeding and waiting for deep sleep. There is no rush, and sessions in Oxfordshire are timed so the drive from Northwood is planned into the day rather than squeezed around it.

Prices for an Oxfordshire newborn session are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. For a session at your home in Oxford, Bicester or Banbury, the written quote also shows travel from Northwood, so you know the full amount up front.

Yes. Siblings are photographed at the start of the session while they are still fresh and interested. A sibling-and-baby frame is set up with a parent close by, and if your toddler is not in the mood, a quick cuddle on the sofa can work just as well.

Kaushik brings soft wraps, blankets and a small selection of simple props. You are welcome to add anything meaningful, such as a blanket from a grandparent or a knitted hat made for the baby. Keep it simple: newborns photograph well with very little.

No. Banbury is about 51 miles from the studio, and newborn sessions there happen at home in the usual way. We plan the day with the drive in mind, and your written quote sets out the travel. See the Oxfordshire photographer page for other services.

Your photographer is Kaushik Bathia, a fellow of both the BIPP and the MPA with five European Kodak Gold Awards, working from the studio he opened in Northwood in 2001.
