Choose a park near home
A session in the park nearest your house, whether Spiceball in Banbury or Bure Park in Bicester, keeps the outing easy for small children.

Relaxed family sessions in your Oxfordshire home or garden, or out on a meadow by the Thames or the Cherwell, with Kaushik coming to you from Northwood.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik comes to your home in Oxford, Bicester, Banbury or the villages between, or meets you in a park such as Port Meadow, Spiceball Country Park or Bure Park. Oxford and Bicester sit about 38 miles from the studio and Banbury about 51, so travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book. Coming to the Northwood studio is also an option.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Oxfordshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
We had our family portraits done many years ago with Kaushik Bathia and we loved them so we have now returned again this time with new additions to the family. On all the occasions we went Kaushik Bathia has taken care of everyone and made everyone laugh and smile especially the children in order to get the best photos.
Me and my family had a photo shoot here and I must say Kaushik did a fantastic job. We went to review the photos and they were really good. We will treasure these memories forever.
We had a great experience with our family photoshoot. The photographer made everyone feel relaxed and comfortable, which really shows in the final photos. The images are natural, well-captured, and beautifully edited. We’re all really happy with the results and would highly recommend.
Outdoors
Oxford has open space right beside the city centre. Port Meadow, to the north-west, is about 300 acres of ancient common grazing land along the Thames, still grazed by horses and cattle, which children tend to find exciting from a safe distance. Christ Church Meadow, open in daylight hours every day except Christmas Day, has riverside paths, views of the skyline and a herd of Old English Longhorn cattle.
In Banbury, Spiceball Country Park covers 26 acres divided by the River Cherwell, with the Oxford Canal on its western side, and People's Park has a walled garden, an aviary and a bowling green. Bicester's Garth Park on Launton Road has an inclusive play area, handy for a break with younger children, and Bure Park is a 21 acre nature reserve of grassland, woodland and hedges along the River Bure.
We choose a place near you, keep the walking short for little legs, and plan around the light, usually the hour or two before sunset from spring to autumn. A park ten minutes from home beats a famous view an hour away when a toddler is involved.

At home
A home session is the easiest way to photograph a family with a baby, a toddler or a grandparent who would rather not go out. Kaushik works with the light from your windows, moves a chair or two, and photographs the things you actually do together: reading on the sofa, breakfast at the kitchen table, a game in the garden. Children relax faster in their own rooms, and the house tells part of the story.
Whether you live on a terraced street in central Oxford, in a newer home in Bicester, a designated garden town since 2014, or in a stone cottage in a village outside Banbury, the approach is the same: a calm hour or so at your pace. If there is a garden, we use it for a few outdoor frames between the indoor ones.
Ages and stages
Babies who can sit but not yet crawl stay where you place them, toddlers need a session built around play, and teenagers respond well to being asked rather than told. We set the pace by the youngest person present and keep sessions to about an hour, so nobody runs out of patience before the end.
Grandparents visiting Oxfordshire for a birthday or a holiday are a good reason to book, since a three-generation portrait is the picture many families wish they had taken sooner. If a little one is turning one, a cake smash is photographed separately at the Northwood studio, which has the backdrop and splash set for it. See our family photography page for more ideas.

Seasons
Late spring brings fresh green on the meadows and long evenings, while early autumn gives warm light and turning leaves along the Cherwell and in Bure Park's woodland. Summer works if we shoot early or late, avoiding harsh midday sun and squinting children.
Winter is short on outdoor light, so from November to February we usually suggest a home session or a visit to the Northwood studio. December is a popular month for a family picture to use on cards, so book that one by early autumn.
Practical
Choose two or three colours that sit well together rather than identical outfits, avoid big logos and neon, and dress for the setting: wellies for Port Meadow after rain, layers for a breezy evening by the canal in Banbury. Bring a snack and a favourite toy for small children. Comfort shows in faces, so let everyone wear something they like.
Kaushik drives from Northwood, about 38 miles to Oxford or Bicester and about 51 to Banbury. Family session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, and travel is set out in writing in your quote before you book. If you would rather come to us, the Northwood studio is two minutes from Northwood Hills station, and the Oxfordshire photographer page lists every other service in the county.

Planning
A session in the park nearest your house, whether Spiceball in Banbury or Bure Park in Bicester, keeps the outing easy for small children.
Port Meadow and Christ Church Meadow both have cattle, so admire them from a distance and keep toddlers close by.
Families wanting a picture for Christmas cards should fix an Oxfordshire date by early autumn, while the light outdoors is still good.
Morning or late-afternoon sessions fit around a baby's sleep, and at home a nap can become part of the session rather than a problem.
These Oxfordshire parks and open spaces suit family sessions, each described from its owner or a published source.

Good to know
Family session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, as they depend on the length of the session, the location and what you would like at the end. Your written quote shows the travel from Northwood, so you see the full cost before booking.
Yes. Banbury is about 51 miles from the studio, and Kaushik comes to you for family sessions there, at home or in a nearby park such as Spiceball Country Park or People's Park. Allow a little flexibility on the start time, so the drive does not set the pace.
It depends where you live. In Oxford, Port Meadow gives wide open space by the Thames and Christ Church Meadow gives skyline views. In Banbury, Spiceball Country Park has river and canal settings. In Bicester, Garth Park has a play area for breaks and Bure Park has woodland.
About an hour for most families, which is enough for groups, individual portraits of each child and some candid play. With a baby or toddler we build in breaks for feeds and snacks, so allow up to an hour and a half.
Keep an eye on the Oxfordshire forecast with us in the days before. An Oxfordshire home session goes ahead in any weather, and an outdoor session can move to another date or switch indoors to your home if you prefer.
Yes, and three-generation portraits are well worth doing. Grandparents who find walking difficult are easiest to include at home, or on level ground close to where we meet in the park, with a chair brought along for the seated frames.
Yes. Newborn sessions happen at your home in the first couple of weeks or at the Northwood studio. See newborn photography in Oxfordshire for how those sessions work, including timing, warmth and siblings.
Behind the camera is Kaushik Bathia, established in Northwood since 2001, FBIPP and FMPA, with five European Kodak Gold Awards.
