Thank you for capturing our special day so well and creating beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We love our stunning wedding album! You took the time to get to know us from the pre-shoot right up until the wedding day and made us feel comfortable and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun along the way especially with your silly little jokes to get us to laugh!

Kalpa S., Google review, 2018

I went into the photoshoot with reservations, as I wasn’t sure how well my youngest child (3 years) would be in a photoshoot situation. As soon as walking into the shoot and seeing how Kaushik interacted with the little ones, I was immediately put at ease. He amazingly kept my child smiling and laughing for an hour, where I can’t seem to manage to do for 30 seconds!

Google review, 2022

I had an amazing experience with Kaushik Bathia. They were professional, friendly, and made me feel completely comfortable during the shoot. The photos came out beautifully — natural, vibrant, and exactly what I hoped for. Highly recommend

The county at a glance

How Oxfordshire is laid out for a photographer driving from Northwood

Oxfordshire is a long county, and the three towns we list here run roughly north from the city of Oxford. Oxford and Bicester are each about 38 miles from the Northwood studio, with Bicester to the north-east of the city. Banbury, which Cherwell District Council describes as the county's largest town with around 60,000 people, sits further north at about 51 miles. That spread matters when you plan a shoot or a wedding day, because the time on the road changes with where in the county you live.

Water shapes much of the county. The Thames runs beside Port Meadow on the north-west side of Oxford, and the River Cherwell passes both the University Parks in Oxford and Spiceball Country Park in Banbury. The Oxford Canal runs along the western edge of Spiceball and past Tooley's Boatyard, which has worked continuously since 1778. For outdoor portraits, those rivers, meadows and towpaths give a quieter backdrop than a busy street, and most of them are a short walk from a town centre.

Oxford itself is compact. Its centre turns on Carfax, the crossroads where the pedestrianised Cornmarket Street meets Queen Street, St Aldate's and the High Street. Around it, the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world, has left buildings in every style of English architecture since late Anglo-Saxon times. For a couples shoot or a portrait walk, that density gives a great deal of variety within a few streets, which suits a session with a fixed amount of time.

What we offer here

Weddings anywhere in Oxfordshire, sessions wherever you are

Wedding photography in Oxfordshire starts from £750 and comes as bespoke packages built around your day. Oxfordshire County Council runs seven ceremony rooms, among them the Dexter Room at the Oxford Register Office on Tidmarsh Lane, The Garth in Bicester's Garth Park and a room at Banbury Town Hall. Beyond those, licensed settings across the county include civic, museum and university rooms in Oxford, converted barns around Bicester and Banbury, and hotels with approved ceremony rooms and gardens.

For family, couples, portrait, headshot, pet and event photography, Kaushik comes to you: your home or garden, a park near you, your office or the hall you have hired. Because the county begins around 38 miles out, some families choose one trip to the Northwood studio instead, on the Joel Street parade two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line. Both routes work well, and session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383.

We are plain about distance. Oxfordshire is not on our doorstep, and every booking here means Kaushik driving out from Northwood with his equipment. Travel is set out in your written quote before anything is booked, so you can weigh the cost of a home session against a visit to the studio and choose with the full picture in front of you.

Nearest first

Which parts of Oxfordshire are closest to the studio

Oxford and Bicester are the nearest of the county's main towns, both about 38 miles from Northwood Hills. Bicester joins the M40 at junction 9 to the south of the town, an interchange with the A34 towards Oxford and with the A41. That junction makes the eastern side of the county the simplest to reach, and it is why a session in Bicester or the north of Oxford is usually the easiest Oxfordshire booking to fit into a day.

Banbury, at about 51 miles, is the farthest town we list in the county. It is a historic market town on the River Cherwell, known for Banbury cakes, a spiced sweet pastry, with Banbury Cross standing at the top of the High Street where Horsefair, South Bar and West Bar meet. Sessions there still go ahead. We simply plan them with more care, agree the timing in advance and make sure the trip is worth it for you.

If you would rather come to us, the county's railway lines help. Oxford station, about half a mile west of the city centre by Frideswide Square, is the busiest in Oxfordshire, with trains to London Paddington and London Marylebone. Oxford Parkway, Bicester Village, Bicester North and Banbury are all served by Chiltern Railways trains to Marylebone, and Banbury station has 978 parking spaces across three car parks.

Settings

Oxfordshire parks and open spaces that suit portraits

In Oxford, Christ Church Meadow is owned by Christ Church and is open during daylight hours all year except Christmas Day, with riverside paths, views of the city's skyline and a herd of Old English Longhorn cattle. The University Parks, a Grade II listed landscape beside the River Cherwell, is not a public park but welcomes residents and visitors. Port Meadow, about 300 acres of ancient common grazing land beside the Thames, is still grazed by horses and cattle, which gives a wide, open feel.

Bicester has two good options. Garth Park on Launton Road is the town park, home to Bicester Town Council at The Garth and to an inclusive play area, which makes it practical for families with younger children. Bure Park is an 8.4 hectare Local Nature Reserve of grassland, scrub, woodland and hedges, with the small River Bure running through it, and suits a calmer walk-and-talk portrait session.

In Banbury, Spiceball Country Park is the town's largest park at 26 acres, divided by the Cherwell with the Oxford Canal along one side, and you can enter from Cherwell Drive, Oxford Canal Walk or Grimsbury Green. People's Park, looked after by Banbury Town Council, has a walled garden, an aviary and a bowling green. We will suggest the setting that suits your family, and the light, on the day.

Planning

Planning around Oxfordshire

01

Tell us the town first

Oxford and Bicester are about 38 miles from the studio and Banbury about 51, so knowing your town lets us quote the travel properly from the start.

02

Home or studio

Every session type can happen at your home or a local park, or at the Northwood studio. If the journey cost matters more than the setting, the studio may suit you better.

03

Book one visit for several things

At this distance it often makes sense to combine, for example family portraits and a set of headshots, in one visit. Ask when you enquire and we will see what fits.

04

Meadows have livestock

Port Meadow and Christ Church Meadow are both grazed by cattle, and Port Meadow by horses too. Plan clothing, footwear and any dogs with that in mind.
