Excellent photography services before and during our wedding. Really enjoyed him being our photographer and he did a great job with the pictures. Working with him on the albums post wedding has been fantastic, he takes time to understand our ideas and portrays them in his work. Brilliant personality and very professional.

Nitesh P., Google review, 2016

Having had Mr Bathia to do our family studio photos with our first child, we again went for him second time round with our second child 5 years later. He is extremely good in getting our girls attention to capture lovely photos. He is a great photographer and would definitely recommend him.

Rajen S., Google review, 2019

The county

How Berkshire lies, from the Slough end to the Newbury end

Berkshire is a long, narrow county that runs west from the edge of London along the Thames and the Kennet, and from a studio in Northwood the eastern end is the near end. Slough sits about 10 miles away, Windsor about 12 and Maidenhead about 14. That eastern strip, made up of Slough Borough Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, is the part of the county closest to us, and it is where a short weekday session is easiest to fit in.

The middle of the county is a belt of towns that grew up around heath, forest and the railway. Ascot is about 17 miles from the studio, Bracknell about 19, Wokingham about 22 and Sandhurst about 24. Bracknell was designated a new town in June 1949 and expanded in the 1960s, while Wokingham is an older market town with a Grade II* listed Victorian town hall in its Market Place. Swinley Forest and Windsor Great Park fill much of the land in between.

West of that, distances stretch. Reading, about 26 miles from the studio, is governed by Reading Borough Council as a unitary authority since 1998. Beyond it the Kennet valley carries the A4, the river and the Kennet and Avon Canal out to Thatcham, about 39 miles away, and Newbury, about 42. West Berkshire is the far end of the county for us, and we plan those journeys in advance rather than treating them as a quick hop.

Weddings

Wedding photography in every Berkshire borough

Weddings are not limited by distance, so a ceremony in Newbury is as welcome as one in Slough. Berkshire has no single county register office: each borough runs its own. Slough uses the Elizabeth Room at The Curve, the Royal Borough uses the Maidenhead Ceremony Room at the Town Hall, Bracknell Forest has a Ceremonies Room at Time Square, Wokingham has two rooms at its register office, Reading holds ceremonies at Reading Museum and Town Hall, and West Berkshire uses Shaw House in Newbury.

Wedding photography starts from £750 and packages are bespoke, built around the shape of your day. A second photographer, a pre-wedding shoot and a hand-finished album can all be added. Our Berkshire wedding photography page covers register offices, venue types and seasons in detail, and the Berkshire Asian wedding page covers multi-day Hindu, Sikh and Muslim celebrations, which matter a great deal in Berkshire: at the 2021 census 46.9 per cent of Slough's residents were Asian.

Sessions at home or outdoors

Family, portrait and pet sessions where you live in Berkshire

For sessions, Kaushik comes to you. That can mean your living room and garden, or a park a few minutes from your door. In Slough there is Herschel Park, a Grade II listed park laid out by Sir Joseph Paxton, with a lake and wildlife ponds, and Upton Court Park, the town's largest, with woodland, wetland and views of Windsor Castle. Around Maidenhead, Ray Mill Island beside Boulter's Lock has picnic areas and an aviary, though it can close between September and April when the river is high.

Further west, Lily Hill Park east of Bracknell town centre has an original yew walk and an Edwardian water garden, and Dinton Pastures Country Park near Wokingham has 350 acres of lakes, woodland and meadow. Reading has Prospect Park, its largest open space, with views across the Kennet Valley, and Newbury has Victoria Park, a Green Flag park with a restored bandstand. Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, and the travel from Northwood to your Berkshire park or home is set out in writing before you book.

Business

Headshots and commercial photography for Berkshire's business towns

Berkshire is a county of head offices. Outside London, Slough has the highest concentration of global company headquarters in the UK, with head offices of firms such as DHL, McAfee and Lego. Slough Trading Estate, founded in 1920 and owned by SEGRO, is the largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe. Bracknell is home to the Waitrose headquarters in its Southern Industrial Area, and Fujitsu, Dell and HP have operations in the town.

For a company in any of these places, the simplest arrangement is for Kaushik to bring a portable lighting kit to your office and photograph staff one after another in a meeting room or by a window. A run of corporate headshots can be matched in light and framing so a whole team looks consistent on a website. Product, premises and team photography for marketing is covered on the commercial photography page, and both are priced on request.

Distance and travel

What the miles mean, from Slough out to Newbury

We give mileage, not journey times, because Thames Valley traffic varies too much to promise a drive. Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead are between about 10 and 14 miles from Northwood, and Ascot and Bracknell are under 20. Wokingham, Sandhurst and Reading are between about 22 and 26 miles away, and Thatcham and Newbury are close to 40. For every one of those places, travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote before anything is booked.

Distance never rules out a session. Families in the western half of the county can drive to the studio at 21 Joel Street in Northwood Hills instead, especially for newborn or studio portraits, and that option is always open. Or you can have Kaushik come to them in Reading or Newbury, which is equally fine. Either way, the travel from Northwood sits in your written quote before you book.

Maternity photoshoots in Berkshire

A maternity photoshoot works well in the later weeks of pregnancy, either at home, in the Northwood studio, or outdoors. Berkshire has plenty of gentle settings for it: the Valley Gardens in Windsor Great Park, the lakeside paths at Dinton Pastures, or the walled garden at Caversham Court in Reading. Kaushik keeps the session short and seated breaks frequent.

Couples and engagement shoots in Berkshire

A couples photoshoot can be an engagement shoot, an anniversary or a pre-wedding session before a Berkshire wedding. The Long Walk towards Windsor Castle, the river paths around Maidenhead's bridges and the parkland at Donnington Castle near Newbury each give a different feel. It is also the easiest way to get used to the camera before the wedding day.

Planning

Planning around Berkshire

01

Eastern Berkshire is the near side

Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead sit between about 10 and 14 miles from the Northwood studio, so weekday sessions and short evening shoots fit easily there.

02

The west needs a little planning

Reading is about 26 miles away and Newbury about 42, so sessions out west are booked with a set start time and travel quoted in writing.

03

Each borough has its own registrars

Slough, the Royal Borough, Bracknell Forest, Wokingham, Reading and West Berkshire each run their own ceremony rooms, so check which council covers your venue.

04

Office headshots on the trading estates

Teams in Slough or Bracknell can be photographed at their own desks or meeting rooms, with lighting brought in so nobody has to leave the building.

05

Parks with seasonal closures

Guards Club Island in Maidenhead closes from December to June, and Ray Mill Island can close in winter when the Thames is high, so pick a back-up spot.
