Guards Club Island shuts from December to June and Ray Mill Island may close from September to April, so Maidenhead river shoots suit July and August.

Engagement, pre-wedding and anniversary shoots along the Thames, in Windsor Great Park and beside Berkshire's castle gatehouse and abbey ruins, arranged around your wedding timeline.
The short answer
Berkshire puts royal parkland, river towns and medieval ruins in one county. The Long Walk runs almost 2.5 miles towards Windsor Castle, Virginia Water has the Cascade and the Leptis Magna Ruins, Maidenhead has Brunel's Sounding Arch, Reading has its abbey ruins, and Donnington Castle near Newbury has a 14th-century gatehouse. Kaushik meets you at the spot you choose, and travel from Northwood is quoted in writing first.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Berkshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
I required some portrait shots to be taken. Mr Bhatia, did an amazing job, Very friendly and extremely professional and knowledgeable.I would highly recommend.
I had a photoshoot recently and it was such a great experience. Everyone was lovely and made us comfortable. The pictures looks great as well I am very pleased. I will definitely come back when the opportunity arises again,
Highly recommend!!! I came from Qatar and found this famous Photographer Kaushik Bathia who took my photographs! Absolutely incredible. He touched up on blemishes and really made the photo look so beautiful!
Why shoot first
An engagement shoot is the easiest way to find out how you look in photographs and how Kaushik works before the wedding itself. An hour walking somewhere you like, with a few prompts and plenty of conversation, takes the edge off being photographed. By the big day you will know where to stand, what to do with your hands and how little posing is actually needed.
Timing depends on what the pictures are for. If you want them on save-the-date cards or a welcome sign, book four to eight months before the wedding. If the shoot is mostly practice, a month or two beforehand is enough. The session can be added to a Berkshire wedding package or booked on its own as an anniversary or simply a set of pictures of the two of you.

Royal parkland
The Long Walk, laid out for King Charles II between 1682 and 1685, runs almost 2.5 miles through Windsor Great Park towards Windsor Castle, and its straight, tree-lined line gives a classic engagement frame with the castle at the far end. Beside it lies the Deer Park, home to around 500 red deer. A short section of the avenue is plenty for an hour's shoot, so comfortable shoes matter more than covering distance.
At the southern edge of the park, Virginia Water is a lake about 2 miles long with a 5.25-mile circuit path, the Cascade and the Leptis Magna Ruins, whose columns make an unusual backdrop beside the water. For colour, the Valley Gardens cover 250 acres of valleys planted with azaleas and magnolias, which suits a spring shoot ahead of a summer wedding.
River town
Maidenhead has two Grade I listed bridges almost side by side. Brunel's railway bridge, known locally as the Sounding Arch, was completed in 1838 and is famous for its flat brick arches, while Robert Taylor's road bridge, opened in 1777, carries the A4 across to Taplow on Portland stone river arches. Guards Club Park, off Oldfield Road, looks straight at both of them.
Seasonal access shapes the plan here. The island at Guards Club closes from December to June, although the park beside it stays open all year. Ray Mill Island next to Boulter's Lock, which became a fashionable resort in Edwardian times, can be closed between September and April when the river is high. A July or August shoot can use both; a winter one stays on the park side.

History and heath
Reading Abbey, where Henry I was buried in 1135, reopened its ruins to the public in June 2018 after conservation work, and the old flint walls give a textured backdrop right in the town centre. Forbury Gardens next door adds the Maiwand Lion and a bandstand, and across the river Caversham Court has ancient yews and terraced lawns that slope to the Thames.
Near Newbury, Donnington Castle is the twin-towered 14th-century gatehouse built for Sir Richard Abberbury, ringed by Civil War earthworks and run by English Heritage with free entry. Greenham and Crookham Commons give wide heathland skies, and the Cold War control tower there opened to visitors in 2018. Newbury is about 42 miles from the studio, so the mileage is set out in your written quote before anything is booked.
Asian pre-wedding
Pre-wedding shoots are part of many Hindu, Sikh and Muslim weddings, and the pictures often appear on invitations, a welcome board or a slideshow at the sangeet or reception. Couples sometimes bring two looks: everyday clothes for one setting and a lehenga, sherwani or anarkali for another. Rich colour stands out against the red brick of Wokingham Town Hall, a Grade II* listed Gothic building opened in 1860, or the green of Upton Court Park in Slough, which has views of Windsor Castle.
Slough is about 10 miles from the studio, a practical starting point if you want to change outfits at home between two locations. For the wedding days themselves, read the Berkshire Asian wedding photography guide, and see the national couples photoshoot page for examples of how a session flows.

Quieter corners
If you would rather avoid crowds, the middle of the county has gentler places. Ambarrow Court in Little Sandhurst is an 8.7-hectare former Victorian estate with yew hedges, bamboo, cedars and bluebell woodland. California Country Park near Finchampstead has a hard-surfaced path around Longmoor Lake within ancient bogland and heath, and Dinton Pastures at Hurst has 350 acres of lakes, rivers, woodland and meadow.
Sandhurst is about 24 miles from Northwood and Wokingham about 22, and both suit a late-afternoon shoot as the light drops behind the trees. Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, and the Berkshire photographer hub lists everything else available in the county.
Planning
Guards Club Island shuts from December to June and Ray Mill Island may close from September to April, so Maidenhead river shoots suit July and August.
If the photos are for cards or invitations, shoot four to eight months before the wedding so there is time to choose, design and print.
An hour in Windsor Great Park or along the Maidenhead bridges gives more variety than driving between towns, and keeps the session relaxed.
Two outfits, one everyday and one traditional, give invitation pictures and something more personal from the same session in Slough or Wokingham.
These Berkshire landmarks and open spaces suit an engagement or couples shoot, and each one links to the source of the details given here.

Good to know
Around an hour for one location, or up to two hours if you change outfits or move between two nearby spots, such as the Reading Abbey ruins and Forbury Gardens. Most of the time is spent walking and talking, with short pauses for portraits.
Yes. A pre-wedding or engagement shoot is one of the optional extras on a wedding booking, and it can also be booked by itself. Wedding photography starts from a separate quote, and the couples session price is given on request.
You can, but in the Deer Park beside the Long Walk dogs must be on a short lead and under close control at all times because around 500 red deer live there. Bring someone to hold the lead between shots.
Choose clothes that sit comfortably together without matching exactly, in plain colours or soft patterns. Avoid large logos. Shoes you can walk in matter in Windsor Great Park or on the heath at Greenham, and you can change into smarter ones for the final frames.
No. Newbury is about 42 miles from the Northwood studio and Kaushik travels there for sessions. The journey is shown in the written quote along with the session, so you can decide before booking whether a western location or one nearer Windsor suits you.
The two hours before sunset usually give the softest light, and in summer that can be quite late in the evening. In winter, an early afternoon start is safer, particularly in wooded places such as Ambarrow Court where the light fades sooner.
Prices for couples sessions are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, since they depend on the length, the number of locations and any prints. Kaushik is rated 4.8 from 580+ Google reviews and has been photographing couples since 2001.
Every session is photographed by Kaushik Bathia himself, FBIPP and FMPA, holder of five European Kodak Gold Awards, who opened the Northwood studio in 2001.
