The short answer

Where can we have a pre-wedding shoot in Buckinghamshire?

Buckinghamshire gives a lot of choice within about 4 to 16 miles of the Northwood studio: the canal and chalk stream at Denham, the literary garden at Milton's Cottage in Chalfont St Giles, the ancient pollards of Burnham Beeches, or Marlow's suspension bridge over the Thames. Hughenden and Stowe suit couples who want parkland. Whichever Bucks setting you choose, the mileage from Northwood appears in your written quote before anything is booked.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Buckinghamshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

My daughter and her fiancé went to Kaushik for their photos, and we had a wonderful experience. He is incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful. He really took his time with them and captured beautiful, professional-quality photos. We highly recommend Kaushik Photography!

Highly recommend!!! I came from Qatar and found this famous Photographer Kaushik Bathia who took my photographs! Absolutely incredible. He touched up on blemishes and really made the photo look so beautiful!

Why a couples shoot

A rehearsal for the camera before a Buckinghamshire wedding

Most couples are not used to being photographed together for an hour. A couples or engagement session lets you learn how Kaushik works, how he gives direction and how you look in natural light, so on the wedding day the camera feels familiar. It also gives you images for a save-the-date card, a guest book or a wedding website.

We suggest booking the shoot three to nine months before the wedding. That is early enough to use the pictures on invitations and late enough that you look as you will on the day. A couples photoshoot can be booked on its own or added to a wedding package as an option.

Places in the south

Canal locks, chalk streams and village lanes near the M40

The south-east corner of the county is closest to the studio. At Denham, about 4 miles away, the Canal & River Trust notes the deepest lock on the whole Grand Union Canal, and the tree-lined Village Road has old red-brick houses with mature wisteria near St Mary's Church. Black-and-white lock gates and red brick make a strong pair of backdrops in one short walk.

In Chalfont St Giles, around 7 miles from Northwood, Milton's Cottage has a literary garden planted with trees, flowers and fruits named in Paradise Lost. A few miles south, Burnham Beeches is known for ancient beech and oak pollards, many over 500 years old, which frame two people well. See the Denham portrait page for more on that corner.

Further afield

Thames bridges, Disraeli's parkland and Stowe's temples

Marlow, about 16 miles from the studio, has a Grade I listed suspension bridge built between 1829 and 1832 by William Tierney Clark, a smaller version of his Chain Bridge in Budapest. A riverside walk there suits couples who want water and stonework. Hughenden, Benjamin Disraeli's home near High Wycombe, sits in nearly 1,500 acres of National Trust parkland and woodland with restored Victorian formal gardens.

Couples from the north of the county may prefer Stowe, about 37 miles from Northwood, where more than 400 acres of Grade I listed landscape gardens include the Corinthian Arch, the Palladian Bridge and the Gothic Temple. Whiteleaf Hill above Princes Risborough gives Chiltern beech woodland and views. For these longer trips Kaushik travels from Northwood and the cost is in your written quote.

Asian pre-wedding

An Asian pre-wedding shoot across the Chilterns

An Asian pre-wedding shoot often carries more outfits and more colour than a standard engagement session: a lehenga or saree, a sherwani, then something casual for a second look. We plan locations with somewhere nearby to change and with backdrops that will not compete with heavy embroidery, such as plain beech woodland, Georgian brick or open grass.

The images work well on a welcome board at the sangeet or reception. If your wedding is in Buckinghamshire, read the Asian wedding photography in Buckinghamshire page alongside this one, since the pre-wedding shoot and the main days are planned together. Families often like a few frames with parents included, which we can add at the end.

Permissions

Country park rules and permissions in Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire Council asks businesses that want to work commercially in its country parks, including Denham, to contact the country parks team first, and filming needs an application. We check what a given park requires before confirming a location, so the session is not cut short on the day.

National Trust sites such as Hughenden and Stowe have their own opening hours and admission arrangements, so we agree the timing in advance and keep the plan simple. A town or village setting, such as Chesham's Church Street with buildings from the 1700s, needs no booking at all and works on almost any day of the year.

Planning

Planning around Buckinghamshire

01

Book three to nine months ahead

That leaves time to use the images on invitations or a save-the-date while still looking as you will on the wedding day.

02

Choose one area, not three

Pairing Denham's canal lock with Village Road keeps the session on foot rather than in the car.

03

Check park permissions early

Buckinghamshire's country parks ask commercial photographers to contact the parks team first, so we agree that before fixing a date.

04

Autumn under old pollards

Burnham Beeches has ancient beech and oak pollards, many over 500 years old, which give scale to a portrait of two.

Engagement shoot settings in Buckinghamshire

These Buckinghamshire landmarks and shoot locations suit an engagement or pre-wedding session, each with its source.

  • Memorial Gardens, Old Amersham: The Memorial Gardens in Old Amersham commemorate soldiers lost in both world wars and host the Town Council's summer band concerts. 2
  • Old Town green: Buckinghamshire Council notes that its Beaconsfield ceremony rooms sit in the Old Town conservation area with a green across the road for photographs. 3
  • Latimer House grounds: De Vere Latimer Estate describes its manicured grounds with views across the Chess Valley as suited to wedding photographs, and it is about a five-minute drive from the Metropolitan line. 4
  • Spade Oak: Spade Oak is the local name for the Coldmoorholme area, which lies in the neighbouring Little Marlow parish and has merged with Bourne End. 5

Good to know

Engagement and couples shoots in Buckinghamshire: questions answered

About an hour to ninety minutes, usually in one location with a short walk. Asian pre-wedding sessions with several outfits can run longer. For a Chilterns location, travel from Northwood goes into the written quote you see before booking.

Yes. An engagement or pre-wedding shoot is one of the optional extras with a wedding booking, alongside a second photographer and a hand-finished album. It can also be booked on its own.

Spring brings bluebells and rhododendrons, and autumn turns the beech woods copper. Summer works in the early evening, when the light is lower. Winter suits towns and village streets better than muddy woodland.

Some places do. Buckinghamshire Council asks commercial photographers to contact its country parks team first, and National Trust sites have their own arrangements. We check before confirming a location.

Two outfits is a good number: one smarter, one relaxed. Colours that sit together without matching exactly work best. For an Asian pre-wedding shoot, bring the heavier outfit first while you are fresh.

Anywhere in the county. Denham is about 4 miles from the studio, Marlow about 16 and Stowe about 37. Kaushik travels from Northwood and the cost is quoted in writing.

Kaushik Bathia, FBIPP and FMPA, photographs every session personally and has done so from the Northwood studio since 2001, with five European Kodak Gold Awards along the way.
