Thank you for capturing our special day so well and creating beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We love our stunning wedding album! You took the time to get to know us from the pre-shoot right up until the wedding day and made us feel comfortable and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun along the way especially with your silly little jokes to get us to laugh!

The county

Gerrards Cross, Wycombe and the south: Asian weddings in Buckinghamshire

South-east Buckinghamshire has a large Asian community close to the studio. At the 2021 Census about a quarter of Gerrards Cross residents were Asian, with 10.5% giving their religion as Sikh, 7.5% as Hindu and 6.4% as Muslim. Gerrards Cross is about 6.2 miles from the Northwood studio, and Denham, Chalfont St Peter and Beaconsfield are all within about 10.5 miles.

High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire's largest town with 83,535 people in its built-up area in 2021, holds a yearly Asian Mela on the Rye, the park east of the town centre. It is about 15 miles from the studio along the M40, which serves Wycombe at junctions 3 and 4. Further north, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes complete the county.

A Bucks Asian wedding can therefore draw family from both ends of the county and from west London, and the events rarely all happen in one place. That is why each day is planned on its own: where it is, how long it runs, and which rituals and family groups matter most. The package and the travel for every day are set out in writing.

Multi-day planning

Spreading mehndi, sangeet and the main day across Buckinghamshire

A typical Bucks plan might have a mehndi at the family home in Chalfont St Peter, a sangeet in a hired hall, the main ceremony at a country house and a reception in a hotel suite. Each of those can be booked separately, and coverage is matched to the event: two or three hours for a home mehndi, a full day for the ceremony and reception.

For home events, Kaushik works with the light in the room, keeps the hands and the henna pattern in focus and photographs the elders as they arrive. For a sangeet in a hall the priority is the performances, the first dances and the faces in the crowd. Add a second photographer on the main day and the other family's preparations can be covered at the same time.

Gaps between events matter. If the haldi is at a home in Denham in the morning and the sangeet in Wycombe that evening, the order of the day should leave time for the M40 and for changing. Tell us the plan for each day when you enquire, and we will set out the coverage and the travel from Northwood for every date in one quote.

Ceremonies

Mandap, anand karaj and nikah: where each part happens in Bucks

A Sikh anand karaj takes place in a gurdwara, with the lavan around the Guru Granth Sahib, and photography follows the gurdwara's own rules on head coverings and where the photographer can stand. A Hindu ceremony under the mandap can be held at a hall, a hotel or a country house that allows a fire ceremony. A nikah may happen at a mosque, at home or at the venue, followed later by the walima.

Several Buckinghamshire venues say in their own listings that they cater for South Asian weddings, naming events such as the nikah, sangeet, mandap ceremony and walima. They range from community halls with gardens and space for a marquee to parkland settings in the Colne Valley and country houses in the north of the county.

Some Thames-side houses near Bourne End offer dry-hire South Asian weddings, which means you bring in the caterers and other suppliers yourselves, so share one running order with all of them. The traditions themselves are explained on the Hindu wedding, Sikh wedding and Muslim wedding pages.

Large guest lists

Big guest numbers, big suites and long group lists in Buckinghamshire

Large receptions need large rooms, and Bucks has some: hotel suites around Gerrards Cross and the M40, halls in High Wycombe, Thames-side hotels at Marlow and events halls in Milton Keynes, several of them licensed for a few hundred guests. Ask each one about the stage, the dance floor and how long you have the room.

With several hundred guests, the family photographs need a plan. Send Kaushik a list of the groups that matter, in order, with one person from each side who knows everyone and can gather them. Group photographs then take a set slot and the rest of the reception is photographed as it happens, from the entrance and the cake to the dance floor.

Do check how many people the legal ceremony can hold if it is separate. If the civil part is at a Buckinghamshire Council room, Midsomer Court in Beaconsfield takes about 60 people including the couple and registrars, and the council counts the photographer in that number, so a big family may want a small register office ceremony and the larger religious ceremony on another day.

Travel

From Denham to Milton Keynes: travel for a multi-day Asian wedding

The south of the county is close. Denham is about 4.3 miles from the studio and Gerrards Cross about 6.2, so early starts for a haldi or family preparations are easy to plan. High Wycombe at about 14.9 miles and Marlow at about 15.8 are a little further, and Aylesbury, about 22.7 miles away, is reached over the Chilterns.

Milton Keynes is about 33.8 miles from Northwood and Buckingham about 36.9. Weddings there are covered in full, and when there are several events on consecutive days the travel for each one is quoted in writing before you book.

Town pages

Asian, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim wedding pages for Bucks towns

Each Buckinghamshire town has its own Asian wedding page with local detail. The closest are Gerrards Cross and Denham, and the largest town is High Wycombe. For a Sikh wedding near the studio, start with Sikh weddings in Gerrards Cross; for Hindu ceremonies, Hindu weddings in Beaconsfield.

For couples in the north of the county, the Muslim wedding page for Milton Keynes and the Aylesbury pages cover the register office and the travel. The national Asian wedding photography page explains how each event is photographed, and the Buckinghamshire wedding photography page covers the county's ceremony rooms in more detail.

Planning

Planning around Buckinghamshire

01

Plan each day on its own

A Bucks Asian wedding can run from a home in Chalfont St Peter to a hall in Wycombe and a hotel off the M40, so each event gets its own hours and travel in the quote.

02

Check the venue's own listing

Some Buckinghamshire venues name mehndi, sangeet, anand karaj, nikah or mandap ceremonies in their listings; ask yours directly about fire ceremonies, music and timings.

03

Count the civil ceremony room

Buckinghamshire Council counts the photographer in each ceremony room's limit, so a large family may keep the register office part small and separate.

04

Name a family organiser

With hundreds of guests, one person from each side who knows the family helps Kaushik work through the group list quickly.

05

Add a second photographer

On the main day a second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time, and both arrivals at the venue later on.

Yes. The nikah and the walima can be booked as separate days, at a mosque, a home or a hall in Buckinghamshire, with the hours for each set out in the quote. Travel from Northwood is quoted in writing for each date.

Most Hindu wedding days need cover from the baraat through the mandap ceremony to the reception, which is usually a full day. Shorter events such as a haldi or mehndi at home can be two or three hours. Kaushik will suggest the hours once he knows the order of the day.

Yes, of course. It helps to ask guests to stay out of the aisle and away from the mandap or the front of the gurdwara during the key moments, so the main photographs are not blocked by phones.
