Bourne End is a Thames-side village at the mouth of the River Wye, popular for boating and riverside walks. Bourne End station is on the Marlow branch line between Maidenhead and Marlow. For portraits away from the celebration, Spade Oak and the riverside meadows leading towards Little Marlow works beautifully, and Cock Marsh, a National Trust common and Site of Special Scientific Interest across the Thames, reached by the railway footbridge adds a real sense of place.

At a Sikh wedding the exchange of garlands and the palla placed in the couple's hands begin the Anand Karaj, and we follow from the very first hymn. From the kanyadaan to the saptapadi, or the first laav to the last, the ceremony tells its own story and we follow it. At the gurdwara, the couple's walk around the Guru Granth Sahib during each laav is captured with reverence.

Each pre-wedding event carries its own mood, the intimacy of the mehndi, the play of the haldi, the exuberance of the sangeet, and we photograph all three in their own key. The reception carries the celebration into the night with speeches, the first dance and the floor filling for the bhangra, and we stay to the final song. When the reception loosens and the dance floor takes over, the bhangra runs late and joyful, and we stay for every last turn under the lights.
