Around the sacred fire, the seven steps of the saptapadi bind a Hindu couple together, and we photograph each vow from close enough to feel its weight. The kanyadaan, when a father places his daughter's hand in her husband's, is quiet and full of feeling, and we frame it without ever intruding. The most sacred parts of the day are captured from a respectful distance with a quiet long lens.

When the reception loosens and the dance floor takes over, the bhangra runs late and joyful, and we stay for every last turn under the lights. We are glad to cover a single event or the whole multi-day celebration. The haldi or pithi is full of colour and play, and often holds the warmest, most natural moments.
