Serving Gerrards Cross
Family sessions run on Gerrards Cross Common, at home, or in the Northwood room. Iver, Fulmer and Stoke Poges are covered too. Most groups here are two adults with young children, often with a grandparent added, and the date is usually chosen around whoever has furthest to travel to be in it.
The craft point specific to this ground is that we scout the meeting point before you arrive, so the walk from the car is short and nobody spends the first ten minutes negotiating roots. We book an hour and treat the middle twenty minutes as the part everything else exists to protect.

What we offer
Family sessions on the open edge of the Common, planned around the shortest possible walk from the car.
One hour booked, twenty useful minutes expected, and the warm Northwood room kept as the cold weather alternative.
Rough ground, prams and older relatives all accounted for when we choose where to meet you.
Local and experienced
Everybody together comes early in the booking, then smaller combinations while the youngest is still willing, and the children are let loose in between, which is where the unposed pictures come from. Nobody is arranged into a line.
If it rains the booking moves indoors instead of being cancelled, and if a small child refuses outright we stop, wait and start again. That is planned for and costs you nothing. Afterwards you choose from a set that includes the quiet frames as well as the ones where everybody is looking the right way.

Good to know
Yes. Gerrards Cross is inside the area we cover from Northwood, along with Fulmer, Iver and Stoke Poges. Tell us where you would rather meet on the Common, and choose it for parking rather than for scenery, since the walk in is the part that tires small children out. We get there ahead of you and find workable ground before the session starts.
Newborn sessions work beautifully in baby's first few weeks, while they are at their sleepiest and most settled. We recommend getting in touch during pregnancy so we can pencil in a date around your due date and be ready when baby arrives. We cover Gerrards Cross and nearby Fulmer, Iver and Stoke Poges.
Mid tones, and one decision for the family rather than five separate ones: choose two or three colours and let everybody pick within them. Against the greens and browns of the Common, olive, khaki and rust sink into the background, so leave them out. Boots or old trainers for everyone, including the adults. The ground is rough and wet grass gets straight through anything thin.
We certainly do. A milestone session marks each meaningful step as your little one develops, whether that is sitting unaided, first wobbly steps or a first birthday. Booking several through the year means you can look back fondly on every stage as it passed. Open air sessions near Gerrards Cross can use Gerrards Cross Common, an area of woodland and open space managed for public use.
Yes, and it helps to tell us beforehand so we pick the meeting point with that in mind. Bring a folding stool or a rug if standing for a long time is hard, because common land guarantees no bench where we want to be. Photographs of three generations work well on the level ground at the open edge; walking in among the roots does not.
Serving Gerrards Cross
As a Buckinghamshire family photographer, we know Gerrards Cross and the towns around it well. It sits close to Chalfont St Peter and Denham, which we cover too. Getting to you in Gerrards Cross is quick from our Northwood studio, with no travel charge locally.
Gerrards Cross is an affluent commuter town in south Buckinghamshire that grew rapidly after its railway station opened in 1906. Gerrards Cross station sits on the Chiltern Main Line with services to London Marylebone. For on-location sessions we often head to spots such as Gerrards Cross Common, close to the well-known St James Church.

Gerrards Cross Common reads on a map the way a park does and behaves nothing like one. It is common land held for public use: trees, bracken and rough open ground instead of mown grass and a tarmac circuit. Underfoot there are roots, bracken and fallen leaves, and none of that is pram country. If a buggy is coming, plan to leave it at the open edge and carry the youngest the last stretch, and pick a spot close to wherever you have managed to leave the car, because the walk in is what uses up a three year old, not the photography. Wet is the other thing this ground does that a mown park does not. Open grass holds water for a day or two after rain, and a child who sits down on it is finished for the morning, while the ground under the trees usually stays drier and is the sensible alternative in a damp week. Where a grandparent is in the picture, an overcast hour is worth waiting for: open sun makes people screw their eyes up and drives shadow into every line, and the woodland edge is far kinder to an older face than the middle of a bright field. When it is genuinely cold, or a baby is being fed and changed to a timetable of its own, the Northwood room is the better answer, because warmth buys attention and nothing else reliably does. Iver, Stoke Poges and Fulmer are all inside the range we work to from the studio, and a family there books exactly as one here does.
