Tailoring in Tooting
Tooting Market on Tooting High Street has tailors and fabric sellers among its traders, so outfit alterations close to the date can stay local.

I hired Kaushik for our wedding and I’m extremely glad I did!! Kaushik took amazing pictures and the quality of the pictures were amazing. Kaushik was very patient and was very helpful since the start. My family including our guest were constantly asking me who the photographer was as he gave the best service.
A brilliant photographer who also provides a great service - a true professional! Highly recommended for sure...

Where the celebrations are
Tooting is the clearest centre. It has a large British Asian community and a concentration of South Asian restaurants, and in the 2011 census 28.8% of its residents were Asian or Asian British. Tooting High Street has two indoor markets, Broadway Market with more than ninety stalls and Tooting Market, whose traders include tailors and fabric sellers alongside food vendors, so outfit fittings and last-minute errands can stay local.
Banqueting suites in Tooting and in Mitcham, on the Merton side, host weddings and engagements, and Wandsworth has dry-hire civic halls for large numbers. Further out, Kingston and New Malden have period houses in landscaped grounds, and hotels, galleries and riverside houses run across the area for smaller receptions.
South London is mixed in other ways too. New Malden is often called Korea Town, with around 10,000 ethnic Koreans living there as of 2014, and Lambeth has been shaped by Caribbean migration since the 1950s. Fusion weddings that join two traditions are photographed with each family's customs on its own timeline, so neither side's rituals are rushed.

Several days, several places
An Asian wedding is a sequence of events rather than one ceremony. A week might hold a mehndi or sangeet at home in Streatham, a haldi or maiyan the next morning, a religious ceremony at a mandir, gurdwara or mosque, a civil signing at a town hall and a reception at a banqueting suite. Each event is photographed as its own story, with its own guest list and timings.
Because the events can sit in different boroughs, the coverage is built day by day. Tell us the address and start time of each one, and Kaushik goes through the timings with you before the wedding so the hours are where you need them. Travel from Northwood for each day is set out in your written quote.
A second photographer is worth considering when two events overlap, such as preparations at two family homes on the same morning in different boroughs. With one, the other family's getting-ready can be covered at the same time as the first, instead of one home being left until later.
Civil and religious
You can hold the legal ceremony on its own day at a council room and keep the religious ceremony for the main wedding day. South London's rooms vary widely: Lambeth's Assembly Hall seats up to 300 for a family that wants everyone there, while Kingston's Acorn Room takes 8 for a quiet signing. Wandsworth Town Hall's Grand Chamber holds 100, and Woolwich Town Hall's Victoria Hall 130.
A register office ceremony is short, so it pairs well with a portrait session. In Merton, a signing at Morden Park House can be followed by portraits in Morden Hall Park, 125 acres of National Trust land on the River Wandle with footbridges over its channels. In Sutton, the council points couples to Manor Park in the town centre for photographs.
For portraits in the Royal Parks, remember the permit, which covers up to ten people for one hour. With a large family, that usually means the couple's portraits happen in the park and the family groups at the venue.

Big guest lists
City venues tend to have less lawn than country ones, and fewer places to line up a large family. Agree a list of the groups you want before the day and plan them for a point when everyone is present, usually soon after the ceremony. Kaushik works through the list in order, so elders and anyone leaving early come first.
Where the reception venue has a garden, terrace or courtyard, it can take the larger groups; where it does not, a staircase or the stage works. Wandsworth Town Hall's sweeping stairway and courtyard fountain show how much a civic building can offer for a wide family photograph.
A baraat with a dhol or a horse needs space on the street outside. Check with the venue, and with the council where the road is public, what is allowed before you plan the procession, so the arrival can be photographed without a hurried change of plan on the day.
Faith pages and town pages
Each tradition has its own South London page: Hindu weddings, Sikh weddings and Muslim weddings. The national guides to Hindu, Sikh and Muslim weddings cover the rituals in more depth.

Planning
Tooting Market on Tooting High Street has tailors and fabric sellers among its traders, so outfit alterations close to the date can stay local.
From Kingston's Acorn Room for 8 to Lambeth's Assembly Hall for 300, choose the civil room by how many relatives you want at the signing.
When both families get ready at once in different boroughs, a second photographer can cover the other family's preparations simultaneously.
Richmond, Bushy and Greenwich Parks issue photography permits for up to ten people per hour, which suits couple portraits more than full family groups.

Yes. A mehndi on a Thursday in Lewisham, a sangeet on the Friday and the ceremony on the Saturday in Greenwich can all sit within one wedding booking. Wedding photography is from £750, and packages are built around the events you choose.
Choose the one that suits your numbers and location. No. The area sits between about 12 and 20 miles from the studio, from Richmond upon Thames at the near end to Lewisham at the far end. Multi-day Asian weddings are planned day by day, with the travel for each day listed in your written quote.
Yes. An engagement or pre-wedding shoot can be added to your package. The Thames promenade in Battersea Park, the river views from Terrace Gardens on Richmond Hill and the listed streets around Greenwich Market all give a London setting. See couples photoshoots for how they work.
Only within the permit. Lifestyle and wedding photography permits for Richmond, Bushy and Greenwich Parks each cover up to ten people for one hour, which is enough for the couple and close family but not a full Asian guest list. Larger groups are better photographed at the venue.
Yes. Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil and other Hindu weddings are covered alongside Sikh and Muslim weddings. Tell us the order of rituals your family follows, and Kaushik plans the coverage around them, including the haldi, mehndi or sangeet on the days before.
