The short answer

Can I book a Christmas photoshoot in South London?

Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs Christmas family portraits in South London at home with your tree, or outdoors in a park such as Morden Hall Park, Beddington Park or Hilly Fields. Family portraits in the Royal Parks, including Greenwich and Richmond Parks, need a park permit. Dates for South London families wanting a short studio mini session in Northwood are released each season; ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. If the photograph is going on printed cards, tell us your posting date so the session is booked in time for it.

Highly professional and took very nice pictures of our family, most impressed. Will surely be coming back in the future. Thank you

Hitesh P., Google review, 2022

…The gentleman took my family and I last minute for a photoshoot. Although we were running extremely late as we had a newborn, he waited patiently for us. He initially said he could only do 30 minutes because we were late but he ended up spending the entire hour and some minutes making sure we had the best photos.

Albert E., Google review, 2025

We had a great experience with our family photoshoot. The photographer made everyone feel relaxed and comfortable, which really shows in the final photos. The images are natural, well-captured, and beautifully edited. We’re all really happy with the results and would highly recommend.

At home

By your own tree, in a terraced house or a riverside flat

A South London Christmas session can start at home, where the tree, the stockings and the family already are. A Victorian terrace in Brixton or Tooting usually has a bay window in the front room, which gives soft daylight on the faces if the tree is placed beside it rather than in a dark corner. A flat on the river at Nine Elms or Greenwich Peninsula has the opposite problem: big windows and a bright sky, so the session is timed for when the light is gentler.

Kaushik comes to you, sets up around the room you already have, and guides the posing so the toddler, the teenager and the grandparents all end up looking at the camera at the same moment. Plan an hour in the house, with the tree lit and the clutter moved out of the way. Travel from Northwood to your South London address is set out in your written quote before you book, and the session price is given on request by phone or WhatsApp.

Card deadlines

Working back from the day your cards go in the post

If the picture is going on a card, start from the day you want to post it and count back: the gallery, your choice of frame, the card design and the printing all sit between the session and the post box. Cards to relatives overseas go earlier still, so mention them when you enquire. The national Christmas photoshoot page sets out the general timing.

Outdoor dates are another reason to plan ahead. Daylight shortens fast through November, and a session on a Morden Hall footbridge or the top of Hilly Fields with small children is far easier at mid-morning than in the last half hour before dusk. A session by the tree depends less on the weather and the hour, which suits a family that decorates late.

Winter parks

Morden Hall's footbridges, Cannizaro's gardens and Beddington's lake

Morden Hall Park is a 125-acre National Trust park on the River Wandle, where the river splits into channels crossed by footbridges, with two snuff watermills and a restored stableyard. A family in winter coats on a footbridge makes a simple, warm Christmas picture. Cannizaro Park, on the south-western edge of Wimbledon Common, is a Grade II* listed garden of ponds and sculpture with rhododendron and camellia plantings; its evergreen planting keeps some colour in December.

In Sutton, Beddington Park in Wallington covers 58 hectares, with woodland walks, formal gardens and the River Wandle ending in a lake in the Grange Garden. Nonsuch Park, between Stoneleigh, Cheam and Ewell, covers the site of Henry VIII's Nonsuch Palace. Sutton is about 19 miles from Northwood, so an outdoor session there is planned with time for a short walk and a warm-up afterwards. See the South London family page for the full park list.

The Royal Parks

Greenwich and Richmond Parks: permits for family portraits

Greenwich Park and Richmond Park are the obvious choices for a big winter view, Greenwich from the top of its highest hill and One Tree Hill, Richmond with its herds of red and fallow deer. But family portraits in the Royal Parks, including Greenwich, Richmond and Bushy Parks, need a wedding and lifestyle photography permit, and each one covers up to ten people for one hour. That matters at Christmas, when the grandparents, aunts and cousins push a group past ten.

Check the permit terms with the park office before you fix a date. If the family is larger, or you would rather not apply, council open spaces give similar settings: Blackheath, which straddles Lewisham and Greenwich along the A2, looks out over the capital, and Hilly Fields near Ladywell rises to 175 feet with views over the City.

Mini sessions

Short seasonal sessions and how dates are released

If you would rather come to us than host the session, Christmas mini sessions run at the Northwood studio: short, guided sittings that rain and early sunsets cannot touch. Dates are released for each season, not fixed in advance, so call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 to ask what is available. Diwali and Eid sittings follow the same short format in the studio, and a Diwali portrait can also be taken at your South London home; see the Diwali photoshoot and Eid photoshoot pages.

Outdoors in a South London park in December, the coats show in nearly every frame, so choose ones you are happy to see in print and settle on two or three colours between you that sit against Cannizaro's evergreens or a grey Thames sky. Indoors, think about how the clothes sit with your tree and your sofa. Prints and frames for presents are best ordered early in the season. The family photography page covers year-round sessions.

Planning

Planning around South London

01

Southwark Park bandstand

Southwark Park in SE16 covers 63 acres, with a boating lake, a bandstand and the Ada Salter Garden. The bandstand frames a family group neatly on a grey December day.

02

Clapham Common

A Metropolitan Common of more than 85 hectares, recorded in the Domesday Book, with three ponds and a Victorian bandstand. Easy for families across Lambeth and Wandsworth.

03

Canbury Gardens, Kingston

A Green Flag park on Lower Ham Road with a bandstand and a pavilion café, beside the Thames. The café is handy for warming small children after a cold session.

04

Brockwell Park

A hilly park with ponds, ancient oaks, a walled Old English flower garden and Brockwell Hall. Its slopes give height for a family picture with trees behind.

05

Manor House Gardens, Lee

A Green Flag park with a lake, a fountain, a walled flower garden and a historic ice house. Its paths are short, which suits toddlers in winter.

Good to know

Christmas photoshoots in South London: questions answered

Yes, with a permit. Family portraits in the Royal Parks, including Greenwich Park, need a lifestyle photography permit covering up to ten people for one hour. Check the terms with the park office first. For bigger family groups, Blackheath next door is a council-managed open space with a similar wide view of London.

If the picture is going on a card, tell us the date your cards go in the post and the session is booked in time for it, with outdoor dates kept to the brighter late mornings of November. A session by the tree later in December suits a family happy to send cards a little later.

Mini session dates are released for each season rather than fixed in advance. Call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 to ask which dates are open, or send the form on this page and we will reply with what is available.

Yes. Kaushik comes to you, sets up around your tree and your front room, and guides the posing for everyone. Merton and Kingston are about 14 to 16 miles from Northwood, and travel is set out in writing before you book.

Morden Hall Park with its footbridges over the Wandle, Cannizaro Park on the edge of Wimbledon Common, Beddington Park in Wallington, and Hilly Fields near Ladywell all work well in late autumn. Each has paths short enough for small children in winter coats.

Two or three colours that sit together, rather than identical outfits. Outdoors in a South London park in December the coats are in most frames, so wear ones you like; indoors, think about how the colours sit with your tree and your front room. Leave large logos and slogans at home.

Prices for a Christmas session are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, and depend on whether it is a family session at home or in a park, or a studio mini session. Travel from Northwood to a South London home is shown separately in your written quote.
