The short answer

Where can I book a Christmas photoshoot in Buckinghamshire?

Christmas mini sessions of around 20 to 30 minutes run at the Northwood studio, about 4 miles from Denham, 10 from Amersham and 15 from High Wycombe. If you would rather stay in Buckinghamshire, Kaushik can photograph the family at home by the tree or outdoors somewhere like Black Park or Lowndes Park. Dates are released for the season, so ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. Travel from Northwood is set out in writing before you book.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Buckinghamshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

We have been getting our pictures clicked with Mr. Bhatia for many years now, he is very reliable, excellent at his job and he is great with kids as well! I'd really recommend his services.

Keshika P., Google review, 2026

I would highly recommend Northwood Hills Studio. We have been been capturing our favourite family portraits since 2004. Always great fun, yet very professional. The printed results are great and we will keep coming back.

Terry R., Google review, 2015

He was very professional, made us relaxed and got everyone to smile. The photos were beautiful especially the family portrait.

Three settings

Your tree, a Bucks wood or the Joel Street studio

A Christmas portrait for a Buckinghamshire family can happen in one of three places. The first is the studio at 21 Joel Street in Northwood Hills, where short mini sessions run on dates released for the season. The second is your own front room, with the tree, the stockings and the relatives who have arrived for the holidays. The third is outdoors, in a wood or country park near home, wrapped up in coats and scarves.

Each suits a different household. The studio is quick and unaffected by rain or short winter afternoons, which matters when cards have a posting date. A session at home takes longer but shows your own house dressed for Christmas. An outdoor session suits families who walk the same Chiltern woods every weekend and want that place in the picture. The national Christmas photoshoot page explains the studio mini in more detail, and prices for all three are given on request.

Cards

Working back from the posting date for this year's Christmas cards

For a photograph on the front of this year's card, ask early, because the season's dates are released and taken in turn. An outdoor session in the Chilterns also needs a spare date in hand, since a wet weekend in the woods around Amersham or Penn can push the shoot back by a week. If cards go to relatives overseas, mention the earlier posting date when you call, so the session is booked in time for the cards.

You receive high-resolution files ready for any card printer, and prints, frames and albums can also be ordered as presents for grandparents. A Chesham or Amersham family booking in late November can still have a lovely portrait for the wall, though the card may turn into a New Year greeting instead.

Outdoors in winter

Pine stands at Black Park and old pollards at Burnham Beeches

Winter strips most woods back to bare branches, so a park with evergreens helps a Christmas picture outdoors. Black Park Country Park on Black Park Road, Wexham, is a Green Flag park of open water, mature pine stands, mixed woodland and heathland. Burnham Beeches, a National Nature Reserve looked after by the City of London Corporation, is known for its ancient beech and oak pollards, many of them more than 500 years old, which give a winter portrait strong shapes even without leaves.

Closer to the Chess Valley, Lowndes Park in Chesham has a large pond and woodland walks towards the Pednor Valley, and Chesham Bois Common has long grassy rides and commemorative oaks planted since 1894. Gerrards Cross Common runs through the middle of the town, with Latchmoor Pond at its western end. Buckinghamshire Council asks businesses that want to work commercially in its country parks to contact the country parks team first, so tell us early which park you have in mind.

At home

Christmas in a Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield or Chalfont living room

A session at home is the one to choose when the tree, the fireplace or a grandparent who finds travelling hard has to be in the picture. Kaushik comes to you, walks through the rooms with you and picks the spot with the kindest window light. Toddlers stay in their own space, nap in their own cot and rejoin the session when they are ready, which takes the pressure off everyone.

Homes in Denham, Gerrards Cross and the Chalfonts are between about 4 and 7 miles from Northwood, and Beaconsfield, Amersham and Chesham between about 10 and 11. Further out, High Wycombe is about 15 miles away and Aylesbury about 23. Wherever you are, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book. For a longer, relaxed session at another time of year, see family photography in Buckinghamshire.

Diwali and Eid sittings for Bucks households follow the same short format in the studio as the Christmas minis, and a Diwali photoshoot can also take place at home among your diyas and rangoli. For an Eid photoshoot, call or WhatsApp to say which days around the festival suit your family, and we will tell you the times on offer.

Clothes and backdrops

Winter colours, warm coats and the market towns of the Chilterns

Under the bare beeches of Hodgemoor or the dark pines of Black Park, a coat and scarf end up in almost every frame, so choose them with the same care as the jumper underneath. Two or three colours that sit together across the family read better against Chiltern woodland than matching outfits, and the national Christmas photoshoot page has more on what to wear.

Some families would rather have a town behind them than a wood. Amersham Market Hall in Old Amersham, built in red brick with stone dressings and completed in 1682, has the Saturday market beneath it. In Chesham, the clock tower in Market Square marks where the old market hall stood and was rebuilt in 1992 with the old clock. The Amersham and Chesham family pages describe both towns more fully.

Planning

Planning around Buckinghamshire

01

Ask early for cards

Dates are released for the season and go in turn, so if the picture is for this year's card, say when it needs posting from Bucks when you first call.

02

Ask for the season's dates

Mini session dates are released for the season rather than fixed far ahead. Call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 to hear which ones are still open.

03

Pines for winter colour

Black Park's mature pine stands stay green when broadleaved woods such as Hodgemoor are bare, which helps an outdoor Christmas portrait in Bucks.

04

Midday for outdoor light

Winter afternoons in the Chilterns are short, so an outdoor session is better booked around the middle of the day; the studio is unaffected by light or rain.

05

Bring the whole household

Grandparents, cousins and the family dog are welcome. Say who is coming so the space, timing and posing suit everyone in the group.

Winter settings in Buckinghamshire

These Buckinghamshire parks and open spaces, each with its source, are the outdoor settings to consider for a winter family portrait.

  • Dog rules in Buckinghamshire country parks: Buckinghamshire Council welcomes dogs in its country parks but keeps them out of livestock areas, fenced heathland and play areas, and drones are not permitted under the park byelaws. 1
  • Mill Meadow and Cheena Meadow play areas: The parish council's Mill Meadow play area, behind the Community Centre next to Chalfont St Peter Football Club, was refurbished in 2022, and the Cheena Meadow play area off Denham Lane in 2022-23. 2
  • Hodgemoor Woods: Hodgemoor Woods near Chalfont St Giles is over 100 hectares of ancient broadleaved woodland, a Site of Special Scientific Interest run by Forestry England, with 5.3km of waymarked horse trails and public bridleways shared by walkers, cyclists and riders. 3
  • Burnham Beeches dog rules: Burnham Beeches, a National Nature Reserve managed by the City of London Corporation, has Public Spaces Protection Orders that require leads of no more than 5 m in marked areas, keep dogs out of the immediate area around the café and limit each person to four dogs. 4
  • Chesham Bois Wood: Chesham Bois Wood is a 16-hectare Woodland Trust wood made up of Elvidge Hodds, Little Hodds and Hilbury woods, protected by a woodland preservation order and home to a 23-metre whitebeam recorded as the tallest in the country. 5

Town by town

Christmas sessions across Buckinghamshire

The table shows how far each Buckinghamshire town is from the Northwood studio, which helps you weigh a quick studio mini against a session at home.

Good to know

Christmas photoshoots in Buckinghamshire: questions answered

Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, so you hear the current figure for the kind of session you want: a studio mini, a session at your home or one in a park. For anything outside the studio, the travel from Northwood to your part of Buckinghamshire is written into the quote before you book.

Dates are released for the season rather than published months ahead, and the most popular slots go first. Call or WhatsApp to ask which are on offer. If the photograph is for this year's card, tell us your posting date, especially for relatives abroad, so the session is booked in time for the cards.

Yes, both work for a come-to-you session. Black Park's pines and lake and the ancient pollards at Burnham Beeches give winter colour and shape. Buckinghamshire Council asks commercial users of its country parks, which include Black Park, to contact its country parks team first, so give us the park and a preferred date early.

Yes. Amersham is about 10 miles from the Northwood studio, and Kaushik can photograph the family at home by the tree, in the garden or on a short walk to Barn Meadow, which looks across the old town. A session at home takes longer than a studio mini, and the travel appears in your written quote. See our Buckinghamshire page for other services.

Yes. Chesham and Amersham are on the Metropolitan line, and so is Northwood Hills station, two minutes on foot from the studio on Joel Street. Families in Little Chalfont can start from Chalfont & Latimer. With a pushchair and a bag of outfits the car can be simpler, but the train is a real option for a short mini.

Yes. Grandparents, cousins and the dog are all welcome; tell us who is coming when you book. Outdoors, Buckinghamshire's country parks welcome dogs but keep them out of livestock areas, fenced heathland and play areas, so we pick a spot where the dog is allowed. Pet photography covers dog-only sessions.

Yes. You receive high-resolution files ready for any card printer, and prints, frames and albums can be ordered as presents. If cards are going abroad or you need them by a fixed date, say so when you book so the session lands early enough.

Behind the camera is Kaushik Bathia, established in Northwood since 2001, FBIPP and FMPA, with five European Kodak Gold Awards.
