Family Christmas portraits in November and December, taken in your Bedfordshire living room beside the tree, on a winter walk in a county park, or at the Northwood studio about 20 miles from Luton.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs Christmas family portraits for Bedfordshire households through November and December: at home with your tree, outdoors in a park such as Wardown Park in Luton or Ampthill Great Park, or at the Northwood studio, about 20 miles from Luton and 37 from Bedford. Studio mini-session dates are released for the season, so ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. Travel from Northwood to a Bedfordshire home or park is set out in your written quote.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Bedfordshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
Took brilliant pictures this year for me and my family! and even before hand 16 years ago took very professional pictures hence why we came back!
Wonderful experienced photographer..clicked our crying 2 year old in minutes
We had a family photo session with grandparents, parents sons and our dog too. Mr Bathia is good humoured, he got the best out of all of us and took some great photos.
Three settings
A Bedfordshire Christmas session can happen in one of three places, and each suits a different household. At home, the tree, the fireplace and the stairs you decorate every year are already in place, and small children stay calmer in rooms they know. Outdoors, a county park gives you frosty paths, bare trees and room for older children to run off some energy. At the Northwood studio, rain and the early winter dusk make no difference to the pictures, which matters when a card deadline is close.
Which end of the county you live in can settle the choice. Luton and Dunstable are about 20 miles from the studio, Leighton Buzzard about 24, Ampthill about 30 and Bedford about 37. For a household near Biggleswade or Bedford, a session in the living room or a park down the road spares everyone the drive south, and Kaushik makes the journey from Northwood instead. Whichever you choose, the cost of getting him to a Bedfordshire address is quoted in writing before you confirm the date.
If you cannot decide, think about who is coming. A toddler and a newborn can stay settled in their own rooms at home. Teenagers and grandparents who enjoy a walk could suit the park. A large extended group, or a household that wants one tidy portrait for the card and nothing more, may find the short studio mini session the simplest answer.

Card deadlines
For printed cards, the date of the session matters more than the setting. Whether it is a morning by the boating lake at Wardown Park or an hour by the tree in a house near Ampthill, choose a slot well before December, so there is room to pick the picture, design the card and send it out; the Christmas photoshoot page sets out the fuller timetable.
If your cards go to relatives abroad, or you have a firm date for handing them out at school or work, tell us when you book and we plan the timetable back from that date. A park session in the middle of November is still workable for cards if the date is fixed early and the weather allows it.
Studio mini-session dates are released for the season rather than fixed months ahead, and we do not publish them here. The way to see what is open is to call or WhatsApp 07956 505383. Home and park sessions in Bedfordshire are arranged around a date that suits you, with the travel shown on your written quote.
Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis
The south of the county is closest to the studio and has three parks that work well for a short festive walk. Wardown Park, near Luton town centre, is a Grade II listed historic park and garden with a boating lake and a suspension bridge added over the lake in 1908. In winter, with the leaves gone, the bridge and the water give a family group a clear, uncluttered background.
Stockwood Park, on London Road at the southern edge of Luton, covers around 100 hectares and has a tree-lined avenue and a historic walled garden. An avenue suits a walking shot of the whole family coming towards the camera, wrapped in coats and scarves, which is one of the most natural Christmas pictures to take outdoors.
In Houghton Regis, Houghton Hall Park has 42 acres of parkland and woodland and a visitor centre at the Park Road North entrance, with a dog-friendly café and 39 free parking spaces. On weekdays between 7am and 6pm those spaces have a three-hour limit, which is plenty for a session and a hot drink afterwards. Dunstable Downs, the highest ground in Bedfordshire at about 243 metres, is the choice for a wide winter view if the day is clear.

Mid and north Bedfordshire
Just north of Leighton Buzzard, Rushmere Country Park has over 400 acres of woodland, heathland and meadow, and admission is free. Its sculpture trail includes a Giant's Chair, which children enjoy climbing into for a picture, and the woodland paths stay sheltered on a cold afternoon.
Ampthill Great Park covers about 160 acres, owned by the town council, with a café for warming up afterwards. Its present landscape is the work of Capability Brown in 1771 and 1772, and Katherine's Cross, put up in 1773, stands near the site of the old castle. For a family that wants a Georgian setting instead of a park, Woburn's streets were largely rebuilt after a fire in 1724 and still show that style.
In Bedford, the riverside promenade through the town centre takes in the Embankment Gardens, Russell Park and Mill Meadows. Bedford Park, laid out in 1888, is the largest urban park in the town and has a lake, and Priory Country Park offers 360 acres of lakes, meadows and woodland in a bend of the Great Ouse. December light fades by mid-afternoon, so outdoor sessions anywhere in the county are planned for late morning or early afternoon.
Indoors
At home, the session is built around the tree and the best window. Daylight from a window keeps faces natural, while the tree lights add warmth in the background. Kaushik looks round the room first, moves a chair or two if needed, and then works through a few set-ups: the whole family on the sofa, the children hanging a decoration, a quiet moment with the youngest by the tree.
Grandparents, cousins and the family dog are welcome, as they are at the studio. Tell us who is coming so the posing suits everyone. Matching pyjamas, a favourite jumper or the clothes you will wear on Christmas Day all work, as long as the group shares two or three colours. If the plan is a walk at Rushmere or on Dunstable Downs instead, coats, scarves and boots become part of the outfit, so choose them with the same few colours in mind.
Diwali and Eid sittings run in the same short format as the Christmas minis at the Northwood studio, and a Diwali portrait can also be taken in your Bedfordshire home among your own diyas and rangoli. The Diwali photoshoot and Eid photoshoot pages explain each, and our Diwali family photography guide has ideas for outfits.

Town by town
Bedfordshire towns from Luton to Bedford, with their distance from the Northwood studio, so you can weigh a session at home against a trip south.
Good to know
Yes. Wardown Park is near Luton town centre and has a boating lake with a suspension bridge added in 1908, which makes a clean winter background for a family group. The session is planned for the brighter part of the day, and travel from Northwood to Luton, about 20 miles, is set out in your written quote.
It depends on the family. Bedford is about 37 miles from the Northwood studio, so a session in your living room, or at Bedford Park or the Embankment Gardens, saves young children a long drive. Kaushik travels to you, and the travel is quoted in writing before you book. The studio is still there if all you want is one tidy card portrait.
Studio mini-session dates are released for the season rather than published far ahead, so call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 to hear what is open. If the picture is for printed cards, mention your posting date so the session is booked in time for the cards.
Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, so you hear the current figure for the session you want, whether that is the studio mini session, a session at home or a winter walk in a park. Any travel from Northwood is shown separately on your written quote.
Yes, dogs are welcome on a family session. Houghton Hall Park in Houghton Regis has a dog-friendly café at the visitor centre on Park Road North, with free parking limited to three hours on weekday daytimes, so the session and a warm drink fit comfortably.
Admission to Rushmere Country Park, just north of Leighton Buzzard, is free. It has over 400 acres of woodland, heathland and meadow and a sculpture trail with a Giant's Chair. Leighton Buzzard is about 24 miles from Northwood, and that travel is written into your quote.
Yes. Diwali and Eid sittings follow the short studio format of the Christmas minis at Northwood, and a Diwali portrait can also happen at your Bedfordshire home with your own diyas and rangoli. Ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383 which days around each festival are open.
