Festive family portraits for Surrey households in November and December, photographed by your own tree, in a park such as Stoke Park or Priory Park, or at the studio in Northwood Hills.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs Christmas family portraits for Surrey families in three ways: at home with the tree, outdoors in a park such as Stoke Park in Guildford or Priory Park in Reigate, or as a short mini session at the Northwood studio. Mini session dates are released for each season, so ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. If the picture is going on a card, mention your posting date so the session is booked in time for the cards.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Surrey, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
We had a large family photoshoot to do which can always be tricky. Kaushik was absolutely fantastic with a myriad of toys and noises to get smiles out of the little ones (they are still talking about the mouse on a stick!). Kaushik took the various different combinations we wanted and positioned each one expertly.
We’ve been having pictures taken by Kaushik over 15 years. Very professional and brilliant pictures
Great service and fantastic photos taken of myself and family. We were given a very warm welcome by Kaushik and I feel that was also reflected in the photos he took. So very pleased with the photos and would highly recommend Kaushik.
Three settings
A Christmas photoshoot for a Surrey family can happen in three places. The first is your own living room, with the tree, the stockings and whichever relative insists on the paper crown. The second is a park in November or early December, when most leaves are down and the low sun stays soft for much of the day. The third is the studio at 21 Joel Street in Northwood Hills, home of the Christmas mini sessions: a guided sitting of around 20 to 30 minutes that rain and early sunsets cannot touch.
For home and park sessions, Kaushik comes to you. Surrey stretches from about 12 miles from the studio at Staines-upon-Thames to about 27 miles at Redhill, so a house in Egham and a house beneath the North Downs are quite different journeys. Travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, and the session price itself is given on request by phone or WhatsApp.

Card deadlines
If the photograph is going on a card, tell us the real posting date when you enquire, including any cards bound for relatives overseas, and the session is booked in time for the cards. The full timing advice sits on the national Christmas photoshoot page. For a Surrey household the posting date also helps choose the setting, because it decides whether there is still enough daylight for a park.
Outdoor sessions in Surrey are another reason to go early. Daylight shortens fast through November, and a park session with small children goes more smoothly at mid-morning than in the last half hour before dusk. A session by the tree depends far less on the light, which suits families who only put their decorations up in December and are happy to send cards a little later.
Outdoors
North Surrey has the river. The Lammas Recreation Ground in Staines lies beside the Thames with a large picnic field, river frontage and a café with boat hire, and Runnymede Pleasure Grounds on Windsor Road in Egham has parking and public toilets, both useful with toddlers in coats and wellies. Close to Esher, Claremont Landscape Garden has a turfed amphitheatre overlooking its lake; it belongs to the National Trust, so check current opening times and any photography terms before you settle on it.
Further south, Stoke Park off Nightingale Road is Guildford's largest park, 52 hectares of rolling grassland with views across the town, and dogs must be on a lead in its rose garden. Priory Park on Bell Street in Reigate has lakes, a sunken garden and a café, with leads required in the formal areas. The Guildford Castle gardens, opened to the public in 1888, put the 11th-century keep behind a family group in coats and scarves.
A town street can work too. Guildford's High Street is still paved in granite setts beneath the Guildhall clock, whose outer case is dated 1683, and Epsom's clock tower of 1847 to 1848 dominates its own High Street. An early start keeps the background clearer and the family less self-conscious.

At home
Kaushik starts by reading the room: where the tree stands, which window gives the softest light and where the sofa could move for a group. The session then mixes a proper family portrait, smaller sets of parents with each child, and unposed frames of what your household really does in December, whether that is hanging the last baubles, reading by the tree or arguing gently over who places the star.
Grandparents, cousins and the family dog are all welcome, as long as we know who is coming so the posing suits everyone. Indoors, the colours that matter are the ones already in your room, so pick two or three that sit well with your own sofa, curtains and tree lights. Matching outfits are not needed, and big logos and slogans are best left in the drawer.
Other festivals
The seasonal sessions are not only for Christmas. Surrey families can book Diwali and Eid sittings as well: both keep the same short format in the Northwood studio, and a Diwali sitting can also come to your own Surrey home among the diyas, rangoli and festive clothes. The days around Diwali are in demand, so October is the time to ask, and for Eid you can call or WhatsApp to say which days suit your family.
Woking, about 20 miles from Northwood, has a large Pakistani community centred on Maybury and Sheerwater, and an Eid sitting can be the chance to gather a whole extended family into one frame. A multi-generation group needs a little planning: send the number of people and any older relatives who will need a seat, and the session is arranged around them.

Planning
Cards to relatives abroad leave earlier than local ones. Tell us the date your Surrey cards go out, and the session is booked in time for the cards.
Mini session dates at the studio are released in the run-up to Christmas rather than fixed far ahead. Ask on 07956 505383 to hear the current dates.
On a November walk at Runnymede or Stoke Park the coats stay on, so plan their colours together; what is underneath matters less than you think.
Stoke Park's rose garden and the formal areas of Priory Park both require dogs on a lead, so bring a short, tidy one that can sit in the frame.
You receive high-resolution files ready for any card printer. Prints, frames and albums can be ordered as presents, and early orders avoid the December queue.

Town by town
Christmas sessions at home or in a local park are available in every Surrey town below, and the table shows how far each one is from the Northwood studio.
Good to know
Yes. Kaushik travels from Northwood to your home anywhere in Surrey, from Staines-upon-Thames and Weybridge to Dorking and Redhill, and photographs the family by your own tree. Travel is set out in your written quote, and the session price is given on request.
Dates for the studio mini sessions are released for each Christmas season. Ask by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383 and you will be told what is available. If the photographs are for cards, say when they need to be posted so the date is booked in time for them.
Stoke Park in Guildford is a council park with open grassland and a rose garden where dogs stay on a lead. Claremont Landscape Garden near Esher is run by the National Trust, so check its opening times and any terms for photography before you book that setting.
Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, so you always hear the current figure. For a home or park session, travel from Northwood is quoted separately and set out in writing before you book.
Reigate and Redhill are about 27 miles from Northwood, the far side of Surrey from the studio. A studio mini session lasts around 20 to 30 minutes, so if that drive feels long for a short sitting, a family session at home or in Priory Park brings the camera to you instead.
Yes. Tell us who is coming when you enquire so the space, the timing and the posing suit the whole group, including anyone who needs a chair and any dog who needs a lead.
Talk to Kaushik about moving indoors to your home or switching to the studio, where a session is unaffected by rain or short winter daylight. Card deadlines are another reason to leave a little slack in the plan.
