Excellent photography services before and during our wedding. Really enjoyed him being our photographer and he did a great job with the pictures. Working with him on the albums post wedding has been fantastic, he takes time to understand our ideas and portrays them in his work. Brilliant personality and very professional.

Nitesh P., Google review, 2016

Kaushik was exceptional at creating our wedding photo album! He designed it so beautifully and his customer service was the best. The album quality and design is amazing, we loved it! Wow what a great job. Highly recommend for photo albums.

Ceremonies

Surrey's three ceremony register offices, and the four that do not marry

Surrey County Council holds register office ceremonies indoors only, at three offices. Weybridge is at Rylston, 81 Oatlands Drive (KT13 9LN), with two redecorated ceremony rooms licensed for up to 48 guests, ramp access at every entrance and parking on site; Walton-on-Thames is the nearest station. Leatherhead is at The Mansion, 70 Church Street (KT22 8DP), an 18th-century house thought to have been rebuilt in 1710, with a State Room for up to 58 and a smaller room for 2 to 18.

Guildford is the one in flux. Its register office at Artington House, 42 Portsmouth Road, closes from November 2026, and from 6 September 2026 to 29 March 2027 Guildford register office ceremonies for 2 to 18 guests move to Suite 3 at the Guildford Harbour Hotel, on set days only. If you are planning a small Guildford ceremony for spring 2027 or later, ask the council where it will take place before you print invitations.

The offices at Staines, Epsom, Reigate and Camberley deal with births and deaths only. Couples living in those towns still give notice of marriage, but at another Surrey office, so allow for that trip when you work out your timeline.

For the photographs

What each Surrey ceremony room gives you for pictures

Register office ceremonies are short, so the pictures afterwards matter. The Mansion in Leatherhead has a conservatory, a terrace and lawns that the council itself points to for photographs, and the islands in the River Mole behind it belong to the River Mole Local Nature Reserve. Kaushik plans ten or fifteen minutes there for family groups before guests move on.

At Rylston in Weybridge, the town's riverside is close by: the Wey and Godalming Navigations meet the Thames at Thames Lock in Weybridge, on a National Trust waterway that opened in 1653. Couples marrying in Guildford during the hotel arrangement can walk up to the castle gardens or the cobbled High Street for portraits, both a short distance from the centre.

Whichever office you use, Kaushik will want the ceremony start time, the number of guests and where you are going afterwards, and builds the picture list from there.

Venues

Surrey wedding venue types, north to south

Surrey's licensed venue list is unusually varied. Along the Thames in the north there are country house hotels, historic college buildings and riverside venues, one of them reached on foot by a footbridge from its car park. Racecourse function suites and golf clubs licensed for ceremonies add to the choice.

The middle and south bring landscape gardens and estates. Landscape gardens, a vineyard estate in the Mole Valley, older country houses around Guildford and farm barns east of Redhill all hold weddings.

Each type has its own planning point for photographs. A venue reached by footbridge means kit and guests cross on foot, a garden ceremony needs an indoor plan for rain, and a beamed barn is darker inside than it looks on a viewing, so Kaushik asks about the room's light before the day.

Distance

From 12 miles to 27: what travel means in each part of Surrey

The Thames side is closest. Staines-upon-Thames is about 12.4 miles from Northwood and Egham about 13.2, both a straightforward run round the M25, with Staines linked to junction 13 by the A30. Weybridge, Esher and Cobham, in Elmbridge, sit at about 16 to 19 miles, and Epsom at 19.6.

West and central Surrey come next: Woking about 20.4 miles, Leatherhead 21.5 and Camberley 23.2, close to the Hampshire and Berkshire borders. The furthest part is under the North Downs, where Guildford is about 25 miles away, Dorking 25.8, Reigate 26.7 and Redhill 27.1. For early morning preparations in those towns, Kaushik sets off with plenty of margin.

Wherever the venue is, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, as its own line next to the coverage.

Seasons and light

Seasons and light on the Thames meadows and the North Downs

A summer wedding in north Surrey has the river. Long evenings give time for portraits by the water at Staines or on the Runnymede meadows between Egham and Old Windsor, where the light stays soft late into the evening. On the Downs to the south, the views from Box Hill's Salomons Memorial, 172 metres up above Dorking, or from the National Trust slopes of Colley Hill and Reigate Hill, reward a short drive at golden hour.

Autumn and winter weddings ask for a tighter plan. Daylight goes early, so couple portraits are best taken soon after the ceremony, and indoor rooms with windows matter more. If you want pictures on Epsom Downs, note that the gallops are used by racehorses in the mornings and the public are asked to visit after noon.

Planning

Planning around Surrey

01

Check Guildford dates

Guildford Register Office closes from November 2026. Until 29 March 2027 its ceremonies for 2 to 18 guests are held in Suite 3 at the Guildford Harbour Hotel on set days.

02

Give notice elsewhere

If you live near Staines, Epsom, Reigate or Camberley, the local office handles only births and deaths, so your notice of marriage is given at another Surrey office.

03

Leatherhead for groups

The Mansion in Leatherhead seats up to 58 in its State Room, more than Rylston's 48 at Weybridge, and has a conservatory, terrace and lawns for group photographs.

04

Guests flying in

Staines sits close to Heathrow, and Gatwick Airport is about 7 miles south of Redhill, which helps when relatives travel from abroad for a Surrey wedding.

05

Indoor ceremonies only

Surrey register office ceremonies are held indoors only. An outdoor ceremony needs a separately licensed venue, so decide early which kind of day you want.

Weddings in Surrey: questions answered

Kaushik Bathia's wedding photography starts from £750. The final figure depends on hours, the number of events, and extras such as a second photographer, a pre-wedding shoot or an album. Travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote, and that depends on how far into Surrey the venue is.

Surrey County Council holds ceremonies at Weybridge (Rylston, up to 48 guests), Leatherhead (The Mansion, up to 58) and Guildford. Guildford's office at Artington House closes from November 2026, with small ceremonies moving to Suite 3 at the Guildford Harbour Hotel until 29 March 2027.

No. The Staines and Epsom registration offices, like those at Reigate and Camberley, deal with birth and death appointments only. Notice of marriage or civil partnership has to be given at another Surrey office, so check the council's booking page for the nearest one that takes notices.

Yes. These towns are about 25 to 27 miles from the Northwood studio, and Kaushik covers weddings there in the same way as anywhere else. The travel for a southern Surrey wedding is quoted separately and set out in writing before you book.

Popular Saturdays in summer go first, so it helps to enquire as soon as your venue and date are fixed. If your ceremony is at a Surrey register office, confirm that booking too, especially in Guildford, where arrangements change from November 2026.

Surrey's new West Surrey and East Surrey councils take over county council services from 1 April 2027. The register offices are run as county services today, so if your ceremony is after that date, confirm the arrangements with whichever council holds your booking.

Often, yes, with planning. Epsom and Walton Downs are private land where the public are asked to visit after noon because racehorses train in the mornings. About half of Box Hill belongs to the National Trust. Kaushik builds the stop into the timeline so it does not squeeze the reception.
