Check the room size first
Hertfordshire register office rooms range from 12 to 60 guests, and Watford's ceremonies at Cheslyn House are capped at 20. Match the room to your list before anything else.

Hertfordshire wedding photography from £750, from a short ceremony at a county register office to a full day on a country estate. The studio is just over the border in Northwood Hills, so the south-west of the county is close at hand and the north is a planned journey.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs weddings across the whole of Hertfordshire, at all eight county register offices and at manor houses, golf clubs, hotels, barns and town halls. The studio is 3.6 miles from Rickmansworth and 3.8 from Watford, while Stevenage, Hitchin and Royston are 22 to 35 miles away. Wedding photography starts from £750, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote before you book.
Kaushik has created the perfect wedding albums for us to share with our loved ones forever, the family love them and we couldn't have asked for more. Beyond our expectations. A true professional, great communication and an understanding individual throughout the whole process. Thank you!!!

Register offices
Marriage registration in Hertfordshire is run by the county council rather than the district councils, through eight register offices. In the south-west, the Watford office is at 31 Hempstead Road. In the middle of the county there are St Albans (The Gatehouse, Victoria Square), Hatfield (19b St Albans Road East) and Hemel Hempstead (The Forum, Marlowes). The east has Hertford (County Hall, Pegs Lane), Cheshunt (Bishop's College, Churchgate) and Bishop's Stortford (Riverside House, Hockerill Street), and the north is served by Stevenage (Danesgate House).
The rooms vary a good deal in size, which matters when you write your guest list. St Albans takes up to 60 guests in its ground-floor ceremony room. Hatfield, Hertford, Cheshunt and Bishop's Stortford's Tudor Room each hold up to 50. Hemel Hempstead's Gadebury Room and the Stevenage ceremony room take up to 40, and some offices state that the couple and photographer are not counted in that figure. Bishop's Stortford also has a downstairs Georgian Room for up to 12.
The county council also lists more than 100 approved venues where a civil ceremony can take place, so the register office is only one of your choices. Book the ceremony with the registration service first, then plan the photography around its time, since the registrar's slot fixes the shape of the rest of the day.

Ceremony settings
Several Hertfordshire register offices have outdoor space that is useful for photographs straight after the ceremony. St Albans is in the former governor's residence of a Victorian prison, and its gardens have an 1840 siege cannon and the original prison doors and walls. Hatfield's Garden Room opens onto a garden that the council itself describes as ideal for photographs. Hertford has the paved, step-free Millennium Garden beside County Hall, plus cloisters by the main entrance.
Cheshunt's grounds at Bishop's College include a small lake and a bridge over the New River, and the ceremony room there, the Octagonal Suite, has a vaulted wooden ceiling and tall leaded windows. Stevenage has a courtyard garden with a gazebo licensed for ceremonies in the summer months. At Bishop's Stortford, the council points couples to the riverside and Castle Gardens opposite Riverside House, by the River Stort.
Watford is the exception for now. Its ceremony room is closed for building work, so ceremonies for up to 20 guests are held at Cheslyn House in north Watford, an architect's house set in 3.5 acres of gardens and woodland with ponds and aviaries. Small 'You and Two' ceremonies are still held at the register office itself. Hatfield also offers a small statutory ceremony on Tuesday mornings.
Venues
Hertfordshire's venues fall into a handful of types. There are country-house hotels and historic mansions on large estates, several of them in the south-west near Rickmansworth and Abbots Langley. There are golf clubs with function suites and course views, which turn up from Croxley Green to Harpenden and Welwyn Garden City. There are converted barns on working farms, including tithe barns from the 16th and 17th centuries, and riverside settings along the Lea, the Mimram and the Chess.
Smaller and more civic options exist too: listed town halls run by councils or trusts, and smaller historic buildings with walled or riverside gardens. Before you book any of them, ask the venue about indoor space for photographs if the weather turns, and how long you can have the gardens to yourselves.
Our venue guides cover a number of these settings in detail, for example the golf-club mansion near Rickmansworth, the lakeside hotel in St Albans, the farm by the Mimram and the Watford register office. Each guide sets out where photographs can be taken, how the day tends to be laid out and what to ask the venue before you sign.

Seasons
Spring gives Hertfordshire some of its most photogenic weeks. Whippendell Wood beside Cassiobury Park is known for bluebells in late April and early May, the wisteria circle at Chorleywood House Estate flowers between April and June, and the estate's Chestnut Avenue drops pink blossom over the path in late spring. A late-spring date also gives long evenings for portraits without the full heat of summer.
Summer is the busiest season and suits outdoor ceremonies, including the licensed summer gazebo at the Stevenage register office. Autumn brings colour to the beech and hornbeam woods in the Chilterns end of the county, around Berkhamsted, Tring and Chorleywood. Winter weddings are shorter on daylight, so Kaushik plans the couple portraits for the brightest part of the afternoon and makes good use of indoor rooms and evening light.
Getting around
A Hertfordshire wedding day can involve more than one place: preparations at home in Watford, a ceremony at the St Albans register office, then a reception at a country hotel. The county is crossed by the M25 in the south, the M1 and A1(M) running north, and the A414 linking St Albans, Hatfield and Hertford, so most moves between towns are manageable if the timetable allows for them.
When we plan your day, we map out each move and build in time for traffic, guest arrivals and photographs at each stop. If the ceremony and reception are far apart, we may suggest taking couple portraits at whichever location has the better grounds. Travel from Northwood to the first location of the day is set out in writing in your quote, along with anything needed for a very early start.

Near and far
If your wedding is in the south-west of the county, the studio is practically next door. Oxhey is 1.8 miles away, Bushey and Rickmansworth are 3.6, and Watford is 3.8, which makes an early start for preparations simple. St Albans at 10.9 miles and Hatfield at 13.7 are an easy drive.
The east and north take longer to reach. Hertford is 19.6 miles out, Stevenage 22.6 and Hitchin 24.6, with Bishop's Stortford and Royston beyond 30 miles. Kaushik covers all of them for weddings, and the town pages linked here go into more local detail. For the full picture of what is included, see our main wedding photography page.
Planning
Hertfordshire register office rooms range from 12 to 60 guests, and Watford's ceremonies at Cheslyn House are capped at 20. Match the room to your list before anything else.
St Albans, Hatfield, Hertford, Cheshunt and Stevenage all have gardens or courtyards beside the ceremony room, which give you a group photograph without moving anyone.
A day that crosses the county on a Saturday needs slack in the timetable. We plan each move with you so portraits are not squeezed by traffic.
Bluebells, wisteria and chestnut blossom all arrive between late April and June in Hertfordshire, so spring Saturdays are worth securing early.
Estates and golf clubs have lovely grounds but English weather is unreliable. Ask each venue where photographs happen if it rains.
