Sopwell House dry hire and package prices

Sopwell House publishes its dry hire prices for 2026: from £14,500 on a Friday or Sunday and from £16,500 on a Saturday. That buys the St Alban and Mountbatten suites from 9am to midnight, one hotel kitchen for an outside caterer, unlimited corkage, the gardens and grounds for photographs, a complimentary suite for the couple and free parking. A refundable security deposit of £1,000 applies, and a minimum of 10 bedrooms must be taken.

Outdoor ceremonies are priced separately on the dry hire page: The Gazebo from £750 and The Walled Garden from £1,000, each needing a wet-weather option.

The packages flyer gives 2027 prices per person: Ivory £165 on a Friday or Sunday and £175 on a Saturday, Rose £205 and £215, Silk £250 and £260. Minimum numbers apply, and every package includes a suite for the couple on the wedding night. Registrar fees are charged on top of the venue's ceremony fees.

Ceremonies, Asian weddings and outside caterers

Sopwell House hosts outdoor ceremonies at The Gazebo and in The Walled Garden, weather permitting, and asks for a wet-weather option. It does not publish which indoor rooms hold the civil ceremony licence or their ceremony capacities. For the legal ceremony it points couples to St Albans Register Office (0300 123 4045), whose fees are added to the venue's own.

The FAQ answers yes to Asian and kosher weddings and says fireworks are allowed, subject to terms and conditions. On dry hire you may bring your own suppliers, including an outside caterer, again subject to terms.

Ask the venue in writing: which rooms are licensed and for how many; the capacities of The Gazebo and The Walled Garden; whether a mandap, a havan or other open flame, a dhol or a baraat (with or without a horse) is permitted; what halal or vegetarian provision the kitchen can support; and the finish time on in-house packages.

Getting ready: the couple's suite

Every package includes a suite for the couple on the wedding night, and dry hire includes one complimentary suite for the couple. A minimum of 10 bedrooms is part of dry hire, which gives the wider party rooms on site. Sopwell House does not name a separate bridal preparation room, so ask which suite can be used in the morning and from what time.

A column-free suite and a terrace for portraits

  • The St Alban Suite is column-free, so a long reception room photographs without pillars breaking the frame.
  • Four sets of French doors lead to the terrace: an easy step outside for couple portraits during dinner.
  • The Mountbatten has internal doors through to the St Alban Suite, useful for a drinks room beside the main hall.
  • An outdoor ceremony needs a wet-weather room; we plan coverage for both rooms before the day.
  • Fireworks are allowed subject to terms, so a closing picture outdoors may be possible; agree the time with the venue.

St Albans City station and Cottonmill Lane

Cottonmill Lane, St Albans AL1 2HQ. The venue says St Albans City station is under 10 minutes' drive, with direct trains to St Pancras taking about 20 minutes. Accessible facilities are available; the venue asks guests to contact reservations to discuss needs. We travel to St Albans from our Northwood studio and plan the morning around your getting-ready time.

Free parking and EV charging at Sopwell House

Parking at Sopwell House is free and on site, with 3 electric vehicle charging spaces, according to its FAQ. Free parking is also listed among the dry hire inclusions. No space count is published, so if you expect a large arrival, ask how many cars the car park takes.

Sopwell House wedding photography, frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding at Sopwell House cost?

Dry hire for 2026 is published from £14,500 on a Friday or Sunday and from £16,500 on a Saturday, with the St Alban and Mountbatten suites from 9am to midnight, one hotel kitchen for an outside caterer and unlimited corkage. Package prices for 2027 run per person from £165 (Ivory, Friday or Sunday) to £260 (Silk, Saturday), with minimum numbers. An outdoor ceremony at The Gazebo starts from £750, and registrar fees are added on top. Ask the wedding team for the current figures for your date.

Does Sopwell House host Asian weddings?

Yes, by its own FAQ, which asks whether the venue can accommodate Asian or kosher weddings and answers that it can. Outside caterers are allowed, to be discussed on enquiry, and dry hire includes one hotel kitchen for an outside caterer with unlimited corkage. What the venue does not publish is whether a mandap, a havan or other open flame, a dhol or a baraat with a horse is permitted, or what halal and vegetarian kitchen provision it offers. Put those questions to the wedding team in writing before you book.

What is the capacity at Sopwell House?

The largest space is the column-free St Alban Suite, which the venue lists at 300 for dinner, 250 for a dinner dance, 380 theatre style and 700 for a standing reception. The Mountbatten takes 80 for dinner, Princess Victoria and Prince Louis combined take 120, and Lady Patricia and Princess Alice combined take 50. Ceremony capacities for licensed rooms, The Gazebo and The Walled Garden are not published, so ask how many guests each ceremony space holds before you plan your numbers.

Is there parking at Sopwell House?

Yes. The FAQ describes free on-site parking with three electric vehicle charging spaces, and the dry hire page lists free parking as an inclusion. No car park capacity is published, so check it if many guests are driving. By train, St Albans City station is under ten minutes' drive away, with direct services to St Pancras in about twenty minutes, so guests travelling from London can leave the car at home and take a short taxi ride.

Can you have an outdoor ceremony at Sopwell House?

Yes, weather permitting. The dry hire page offers two open-air settings, The Gazebo and The Walled Garden, and asks every couple to arrange a wet-weather option as well. Capacities for the two spaces are not published. For the legal side the venue recommends booking with St Albans Register Office, and the registrar's charges sit on top of the venue's ceremony fee. With an outdoor ceremony we plan coverage for both the garden and the indoor fallback room.
