Read the conditions as carefully as the prices. On the Classic, Luxury, Winter and dry hire packages you must contract the 10 bedrooms above the event space at a set price. On Classic, Luxury and Winter, the evening buffet must cover at least 75% of your day and evening guests. Teenagers aged 13 to 17 are half the adult price, children aged 4 to 12 are £35, and children aged 3 and under are free. The brochure's Exclusively Yours package, with the Mansion House, grounds and bedrooms from 1pm on the wedding day until 12pm the next day, is priced on request (brochure).

The Cavendish Suite, the estate church and the registrars

The Cavendish Suite in Latimer House is "licensed for civil ceremonies and provides the backdrop to your wedding ceremonies and parties" (weddings page). Buckinghamshire Council's ceremonies directory lists five rooms with capacities: the Cavendish Suite (254), Waterhouse Suite (250), Cavendish One (146), Cavendish Two (108) and Cheyne (60) (council listing). Once you have booked, you must secure a registrar yourself through the Buckinghamshire Registrars and Ceremonies Team (01494 475 092), and the brochure asks you to speak to your wedding co-ordinator first for advice on the best ceremony time (brochure).

For a church wedding, the brochure says the 18th-century St Mary Magdalene Church is "right here in the grounds of the estate"; you pass the chapel on the drive up to the house. A church service is arranged with the church, not the hotel.

On dry hire, your caterer must be on De Vere's approved list, bring all their own equipment and be registered with De Vere. The caterer runs the day and no hotel staff are provided beyond a duty manager (dry hire PDF). Outside caterers are welcome in some event spaces if they are on the accredited list or pass an audit. De Vere does not publish anything on Hindu, Sikh or Muslim ceremonies, halal or Jain menus, a havan, or a baraat on the estate, so ask the wedding team in writing.

Photography rules at Latimer: your own photographer is welcome

The brochure says the wedding team has relationships with florists, bands, DJs and photographers, and "You can use our list of suppliers, or you're welcome to bring in your own" (brochure). Beyond that, De Vere publishes no photography rules for weddings.

Getting ready in the Mansion House suites

The packages build in the rooms for the morning. The Classic package includes a deluxe bedroom with breakfast the night before and a junior suite on the wedding night. The Luxury package includes a junior suite the night before and the bridal suite on the wedding night (Classic, Luxury). The brochure says the Mansion House suites have views over the Chiltern Hills and king-size beds, and that a grand double staircase, backlit by an original stained glass window, sweeps up to some of the estate's finest bedrooms. A named getting-ready room for a second party is not published, so use one of the 10 contracted bedrooms above the Cavendish Suite and tell us which rooms when you book.

Planning photographs at Latimer House: the staircase, the terrace and the valley

  • The weddings page says the grounds have "views across Chess Valley, perfect for wedding photographs". The brochure describes lush lawns, woodland trails, "the shaded elegance of The King's Walk", hidden garden corners and centuries-old trees.
  • The Cavendish Suite's glass doors open onto a private terrace with plants and deck chairs, which the gallery calls "ideal for a summer drinks reception". Group photographs work best there, a step from the bar.
  • Inside, the grand double staircase with its original stained glass window is the indoor portrait spot, and it works whatever the weather.
  • The Huntley Bar and Library has French doors onto the gardens and original windows with views of the Chess Valley. The 1838 Restaurant has a glass ceiling, and the courtyard has trees and subtle lighting for evening portraits.
  • The drive passes the chapel before the first view of the red brick house, so a car arrival shot is worth planning.
  • Ask whether the cellars, which the venue says occupy the whole footprint of the house, can be seen. They are part of the estate's wartime story, but they are usually closed to the public.

From 1194 to the secret listeners: the history of Latimer House

De Vere's estate page says a manor house at Latimer was first recorded in 1194, and the brochure adds that the King's Court records it as part of the honour of Wallingford. The estate passed through families of English nobility to the Victorian mansion that stands today.

In the Second World War, Latimer House became a top secret military intelligence centre, called "one of Britain's most secret homes". Under the MI6 spymaster Thomas Kendrick, microphones were hidden in the fixtures and fittings, and a team of secret listeners, largely German-Jewish refugees, recorded the conversations of senior German prisoners (What Lies Beneath). De Vere says Historic England has recognised the work as "on a par with the code-breaking at Bletchley Park for the outcome of the war". A £7m refurbishment has since turned the house into a country hotel.

Chalfont & Latimer station, the M25 and the HP5 postcode

The address is Church Lane, Latimer, Chesham HP5 1UG, and De Vere gives sat-nav coordinates 51.6796075, -0.5556307 and what3words ///manage.allow.reason (contact and travel). The estate is 10 minutes' drive from Junction 18 of the M25. Chalfont & Latimer station, on the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways (London Marylebone in as little as 30 minutes), is a five-minute taxi ride away. De Vere warns that the walking route from the station is not suitable for pedestrians, so book taxis for guests. Heathrow and Luton are each about 30 to 35 minutes by cab. We travel to De Vere Latimer Estate from our Northwood studio, and travel is set out in the written quote.

Parking at De Vere Latimer Estate

De Vere's travel notes say Mansion House guests park at the front of the mansion, North Wing guests use the main car park, and Waterhouse and Mews Wings guests check in at main reception before driving round to the wings. EV charging points are available for hotel guests (contact and travel). A space count, coach access and wedding guest parking rules are not published, so ask the wedding team for a large guest list.

De Vere Latimer Estate wedding photography, frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding at De Vere Latimer Estate cost?

De Vere publishes per-person packages. In 2026 the Classic package is £141 per person from April to October and in December, or £138 from January to March and in November. The Luxury package is £179 or £167, and the Winter package is £109. Saturdays add a room hire fee of £1,500 in 2026, £2,000 in 2027 and £2,200 in 2028. Dry hire of the Cavendish Suite is £10,000 or £7,500 in 2026. You must also contract the 10 bedrooms above the event space.

How many guests can De Vere Latimer Estate hold?

The figures differ. The weddings page says the Cavendish Suite suits celebrations of up to 200 guests, the gallery says 240, and Buckinghamshire Council's ceremonies directory lists it at 254. The dry hire package provides up to 180 Chiavari chairs. The Classic and Luxury packages need at least 70 adults and the Winter package at least 50. The Intimate package in the Cheyne is for 10 to 30 adults. Confirm the seated number for your layout with the wedding team.

Can you get married in the church at Latimer?

The wedding brochure says that if you prefer a traditional church ceremony, the 18th-century St Mary Magdalene Church is in the grounds of the estate. You pass the chapel on the drive up to Latimer House. For a civil ceremony, the Cavendish Suite is licensed, and you book the registrar through the Buckinghamshire Registrars and Ceremonies Team once your date is confirmed.

Can we bring our own photographer to De Vere Latimer Estate?

Yes. The brochure says the wedding team works with florists, bands, DJs and photographers, and that you can use its list of suppliers or bring in your own. De Vere publishes no rules on flash, drones or confetti, so ask the wedding team. Caterers are different: on dry hire they must come from De Vere's approved list.

Is De Vere Latimer Estate exclusive use?

The standard packages give exclusive use of the Cavendish Suite and its private bar, not the whole hotel. For the whole estate, the Exclusively Yours package makes Latimer your private estate from 1pm on the wedding day until 12pm the next day, with the Mansion House, grounds and bedrooms. De Vere prices it on request.

How do guests get to De Vere Latimer Estate?

The estate is 10 minutes' drive from Junction 18 of the M25; use HP5 1UG or what3words ///manage.allow.reason. Chalfont & Latimer station, on the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways to Marylebone, is a five-minute taxi ride. De Vere says the walking route from the station is not suitable for pedestrians, so arrange taxis. Heathrow and Luton are about 30 to 35 minutes by cab.

Can children come to a De Vere Latimer wedding, and what do they cost?

Yes. On the published packages, teenagers aged 13 to 17 are half the adult price, children aged 4 to 12 are £35, and children aged 3 and under are free. The minimum numbers (70 adults on the Classic and Luxury packages) count adults only.
