If you are looking at Watford Colosseum for a wedding, start with this: its current website and its July 2025 private hire brochure do not mention weddings, civil ceremonies or marriage. The private hire page lists awards ceremonies, private parties, film premieres, product launches, conferences and fashion shows, and the old weddings page returns a 404.
Directory listings describing a ceremony licence and wedding packages were written before the venue reopened in 2025 and cannot be checked against the venue as it runs now. This page sets out what the building publishes today for private hire, and what to ask before counting on it.

What Watford Colosseum private hire includes
Hire fees are not published; the July 2025 brochure gives them on request. Standard hire is 12 consecutive hours a day, with extra hours charged, and includes the venue, technical and stage managers, security, technicians, in-house sound and lighting, furniture, Wi-Fi, front-of-house cleaning, kitchen space, a production office and four dressing rooms. The venue works with preferred caterers, and using an external caterer incurs a £2,000 catering buyout. Bars are run in-house.
Why the wedding listings are out of date
The wedding offer is not on the record. The venue's own site publishes detailed hire capacities and a list of event types that does not include weddings, and no ceremony licence. The directory entries that describe a licence and wedding packages were written for the venue before its 2025 reopening, so treating them as current would be a guess.
If the Colosseum matters to you, ask three questions directly: whether weddings are taken at all, whether a civil ceremony can be held in the building, and what the end time of a 12-hour hire would be on a Saturday. Dressing rooms, not bridal rooms
The brochure includes four dressing rooms and a production office in standard hire. They are not described as bridal rooms, so ask what they are like before planning to get ready there.

A concert hall's geometry, and the numbers that matter
- Confirm the venue takes your kind of event before anything else on this list matters.
- The auditorium is 27.5m from stage to the back and 22m across: sightlines are built for a stage, which suits a ceremony facing front far better than a round-table dinner.
- Seated dinner on the ground floor is 456, or 380 at ten a table. Those are the numbers to plan against, not the 1,189 seated-theatre figure.
- The Forum Bar, 144 seated, is the room for a smaller reception or a mehndi.
- The in-house rig includes stage lighting and hazers, so faces will need their own light.
The 1938 Assembly Rooms, reopened in 2025
The Colosseum opened in 1938 as the Assembly Rooms of Watford Town Hall. It reopened in 2025 and is now run as a live entertainment venue by AEG Presents, which publishes its private hire brochure.
Rickmansworth Road and the Town Hall roundabout
Rickmansworth Road, Watford WD17 3JN, at the Town Hall roundabout. Watford Junction and Watford High Street stations are a walk or a short taxi away. The Town Hall layby is closed, and pick-up and drop-off is at the new taxi rank by the library, according to the venue. It is about 4 miles in a straight line from our Northwood HA6 studio.
No parking at the venue, and three town car parks
The venue's pages disagree. The getting-here page says parking is not available at the Colosseum and points to nearby town car parks: Gade (661 spaces), the Town Hall car park (78, the most accessible) and Avenue (119), with 185 disabled bays across the town centre car parks. The July 2025 private hire brochure lists "car parking spaces to be agreed" as a hire inclusion. Ask what is included for your booking.
