Watford's Grade I church
St Mary's on Watford High Street, with its Essex Chapel, is about 3.8 miles from the studio. Ask the parish office about photography during the service.
Christenings, baptisms, naming ceremonies and first communions in Hertfordshire, photographed quietly during the service and properly for the family groups afterwards.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs christenings, baptisms, naming ceremonies and first communions at churches, venues and homes within about 20 miles of his Northwood Hills studio. That takes in Watford, Bushey, Rickmansworth, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Hatfield and out to Hertford. Ware, Stevenage and North Herts lie beyond the usual 20-mile christening range, so each date there is checked first by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Hertfordshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
Best service I have ever received. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get their event covered!
Kaushik took graduation photos for my family and I. His enthusiasm and great photography skills made the photos turn out beautifully as he really understood what we wanted and captured priceless moments for us. Highly recommend his services, you won't be disappointed!
Had a lovely experience with the family photo shoot. Friendly man made us feel very comfortable and took some amazing shots
Where
Hertfordshire's churches range from village chapels to a cathedral. St Albans Cathedral stands near the supposed site of the martyrdom of Alban, Britain's first Christian martyr, and the present building is largely Norman work of the 11th century. On Watford High Street, St Mary's is Grade I listed, mainly of the 15th century, and contains the Essex Chapel. In Bushey, the Church of St James stands by the village pond, its chancel dating from around 1250.
Smaller churches have their own character. Christ Church in Chorleywood was built in 1845, Christ Church in Radlett had six bells installed in 1964, and Sarratt's Church of the Holy Cross, founded around 1190, is built of flint and brick with what are reputed to be reused Roman tiles. Oxhey Chapel, built in 1612, still keeps its 17th-century font.

Church rules
Every church sets its own guidance on photography during a baptism. Some are happy for the whole service to be photographed; others ask the photographer to stay in one place, or to photograph only before and after. Ask your vicar or priest when you book the date, and tell us what they say. Kaushik works within whatever the church allows and keeps out of the way of the congregation.
If the service itself cannot be photographed, nothing is lost. The family can gather at the font afterwards, or outside the porch, and the moments that matter most can be recreated calmly with the godparents in place. A shared christening, with several families baptised in one service, needs a short word with the other parents too.
Other traditions
In Hertfordshire, as elsewhere, a baby can be welcomed somewhere other than a church. A non-religious naming ceremony might be held at home, in a garden or in a hired room, with a celebrant and readings from family. A Hindu naming ceremony may take place at home or at your mandir, and an aqiqah can be marked with family and a shared meal. First communions are covered as well.
Whatever the tradition, the approach is the same: tell us the running order, the people who matter and any guidance from your place of worship or venue, and we plan around it. Our national christening photography page explains how the day is covered. For a baby's first year in pictures, see newborn photography in Hertfordshire.

Groups
The group photographs are the ones worth framing: parents and baby, godparents, both sets of grandparents, then everyone. Send a short list beforehand and they are done quickly, straight after the service while everyone is still smart and the baby is calm. In an old village church such as Sarratt's, the porch and the churchyard path can give more room than the aisle.
If the churchyard is cramped, a garden nearby can help. Bushey Rose Garden, laid out by Thomas Mawson, cannot be hired for private parties, but with prior agreement Hertsmere Borough Council lets people use a small area of the lawn for group events while the garden stays open to the public. In Shenley, the Shenley Park Trust allows professional family photographs in its walled garden for a fee paid in advance.
Afterwards
A christening can carry on over a meal, at home, in a church hall, at a pub or in a restaurant. Coverage can follow the family there: the baby passed from aunt to great-uncle, the cake being cut, the grandparents finally sitting down. Those in-between pictures can become the ones people return to years later.
The national page sets christening coverage at churches, venues and homes within about 20 miles of Northwood. In Hertfordshire that runs from Oxhey, under two miles away, out to Hertford at about 19.6. Ware at 21.8 miles, Stevenage, Hitchin and Bishop's Stortford are beyond the usual 20-mile christening range, so each date there is checked first by phone or WhatsApp before anything is confirmed. Any travel to a Hertfordshire church is set out in writing in your quote before you book.

Christening coverage runs within about 20 miles of Northwood, which reaches Hertford. North Herts and the Stort valley sit beyond that range, so each date there is checked first by phone or WhatsApp.
A studio family portrait in the christening gown, at the Northwood studio, is a calm option if you would rather have no photographer at the service. See family photography in St Albans for outdoor options.
Write down every group you want, including godparents and great-grandparents, and the groups take minutes rather than half an hour.

Good to know
St Albans is about 10.9 miles from the studio, well within christening range. Ask the cathedral what photography it allows during the baptism, and we plan around that. Family groups can be taken afterwards, and travel is set out in your written quote.
Yes, where the church allows it. Kaushik follows the service quietly and works within the guidance your vicar or priest gives. If photography is not allowed during the baptism, the key moments can be recreated at the font afterwards.
Hitchin is about 24.6 miles away and Bishop's Stortford about 30.7, beyond the usual 20-mile christening range. Each date there is checked first, so call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 with the church and the date before you confirm anything with the parish.
Yes. Non-religious naming ceremonies, Hindu naming ceremonies and aqiqahs are covered at home or at a hall or venue, as are first communions. Tell us the running order and any guidance from your place of worship.
With prior agreement, Hertsmere Borough Council lets people use a small area of the lawn for group events, while the garden stays open to the public. It cannot be hired for private parties, so arrange it with the council well ahead.
The price is given on request by phone or WhatsApp, and it depends on how long you want covered, whether the meal afterwards is included and what you would like to take home. Travel to your church is quoted up front in writing.
Yes. A studio family portrait in the christening outfit, at Northwood Hills, is a quiet alternative for families in Watford, Bushey or Rickmansworth. The studio is warm and the session runs at your baby's pace, with time for feeds and cuddles.
