For Bushey
We plan for about forty-five minutes of photography and treat the first twenty as the productive part. Small children get one instruction at a time, and older relatives get somewhere to sit between frames instead of standing through all of it.
If the weather turns, the session moves indoors to Northwood instead of being cancelled and pushed back weeks, and nothing a baby needs has to be carried across wet ground. You receive the whole-group frames, the pairings, and the unposed ones that happen in between.

What we offer
Three-generation groups photographed on level, enclosed ground in Bushey, with seating and a longer slot booked in.
Everyone together first while the youngest still cooperate, then pairs, then whatever happens once people relax.
Bad weather moves the session indoors to Northwood instead of cancelling it and rebooking you weeks later.
Twenty-five years behind the lens
One frame of the whole family, one of the children together, one of each child alone and one of the parents covers most of what families later wish they had. Feeding, changing and settling are part of the session rather than interruptions to it, and a newborn sitting pauses as many times as the baby requires.
Home sessions suit newborns particularly well, since nothing has to be packed, and a baby's own room usually has better light than parents expect it to. Very large gatherings can have a second photographer booked, for occasions where two viewpoints of the same moment are genuinely worth having.

Good to know
We cover Bushey alongside Aldenham, Elstree and Carpenders Park, which helps when the family is spread across more than one of them and needs a single meeting point. Where the diary allows we hold the outdoor location and the Northwood studio for the same booking, so a wet morning means moving indoors rather than rescheduling, and a large group is not split across two visits.
Of course. Family photography is about everyone together, so parents are very much part of the session. We photograph the whole family, then smaller groups and each child alone, so you come away with cuddles, connection and every combination captured. Open air sessions near Bushey can use Bushey Rose Garden and the open grounds around Bushey Hall.
Yes, and for a newborn we would book the Northwood studio rather than a Bushey location, because both outdoor spots here are exposed and a baby needs a warm room more than it needs scenery. Bring feeds, a spare set of clothes and something to mop up with. We photograph the older children first while they are still willing, then the baby on its own, which fits how long each of them lasts.
Both. Outdoors in Bushey means Bushey Rose Garden or the open grounds around Bushey Hall. Indoors means the studio at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6. Book the studio if the group is large and the forecast is doubtful, or if anyone coming would struggle with walking between setups. Tell us the ages attending and we will say which of the two we would pick.
We keep the turnaround fast, so you will not wait long. After the session we hand-pick and edit your images, then share a private online gallery. You can then take your time choosing prints, canvases and albums for your home. Locally in Bushey that takes in Bushey Rose Garden, a restored formal garden linked to the artist Hubert von Herkomer.

Bushey offers a family two locations with opposite characters, and choosing the wrong one for the ages involved is the usual reason an outdoor session goes flat. Bushey Rose Garden is enclosed and laid out to a plan, which means a small child has a boundary and the adults are not spending the session retrieving anybody. It also means the backgrounds sit close to one another, so a group of eight can be moved through three setups without a march between them. That matters most when a grandparent is in the frame, since standing about is the tiring part, not the photography. The open grounds around Bushey Hall do the opposite job: room to run, long sightlines, and frames where children are moving instead of arranged. Older children get a great deal out of that. Under-fives rarely do. Extended families are common in Bushey, and a three-generation group is a technical problem before it is a happy one. A wide line of people needs everyone roughly the same distance from the camera or the far end goes soft, so we build a shallow arc rather than a straight line, and we take the whole-group frame first while the youngest person present is still interested in us. Attention runs out well before the light does. When it rains, or when the wind is up across the open grounds, the Northwood studio is the better call and not a consolation prize: indoors, a three-year-old will give more usable expression in twenty minutes than an hour outdoors in weather will produce. A pram also handles garden paths far better than long grass.
