Older siblings get a job inside the frame instead of an order to keep still. Once the baby sits unaided, Cassiobury hands the older ones somewhere to spend their energy between frames.

A family moving through Cassiobury talks amongst itself rather than at a lens, and those in between moments are what people end up hanging on a wall. The formal group frame gets taken as well, early on, before anyone has drifted off or been rained on, because relatives will ask for it.
Yes, and they frequently make the session. Made up routes serve the park from end to end, so no member of the group gets asked to cross rough ground to reach a frame. We build the arrangement around whoever moves least easily and let everybody else fit to that. A seated grandparent with a child leaning in is a picture we plan for deliberately.

A family sitting is often the only hour in a year when every one of you stands in the same place, and in Watford that is more literally true than in most towns. Positioned just outside London as it is, the town collects one half of a family off a train and the other half by road from Croxley Green, Rickmansworth or Abbots Langley. The consequence is worth acting on: the entire group gets photographed at the beginning of a session, never at its end. Older children can have the river, and the frames along it are worth having. Two things to check before you settle on a date. Vicarage Road sits inside the town, so roads and car parks near the centre fill up whenever there is a home fixture, which matters if most of you are driving in. And a family dressed within one palette photographs as a family, while a family in six competing patterns photographs as six people standing near each other.
