Photographing families in Watford

Families book from Watford itself and the towns nearby, working outdoors in the parks or indoors at Northwood, whichever the ages in the group will actually tolerate.

Newborn sittings run to the baby's timetable rather than ours. Two hours can hold as little as forty minutes of photographing, the balance going on feeding, settling and waiting, and a booking is written that way so that nothing overruns. Older siblings go first, while the whole business still strikes them as interesting. Every position used is one the baby is already supported in, and nothing gets attempted that depends on a sleeping newborn obliging by staying asleep for it.

Every Age Welcome

Four generations in one frame where four turn up, plus every smaller combination while everybody is still there.

Why choose us

Reassuringly experienced with children

The child leads. If the mood is a cuddle on the way round, that is what gets photographed, and if the mood is running then running is what we photograph. Sittings steered against the mood produce pictures of children being managed, and nobody puts one of those on a wall. Waiting out a bad five minutes costs less than fighting through it.

Maternity portraits sit best across the final few weeks, at a stage where the bump is unmistakable and getting up again is still straightforward.

Good to know

Family Photographer in Watford, FAQs

Yes. With a very young baby the Northwood studio generally wins, being warm and private with everything a feed or a change calls for a few steps away. Older siblings get a job inside the frame instead of an order to keep still. Once the baby sits unaided, Cassiobury hands the older ones somewhere to spend their energy between frames.

Mostly, and the park gets chosen for precisely that reason. A family moving through Cassiobury talks amongst itself rather than at a lens, and those in between moments are what people end up hanging on a wall. The formal group frame gets taken as well, early on, before anyone has drifted off or been rained on, because relatives will ask for it.

Yes, and they frequently make the session. Made up routes serve the park from end to end, so no member of the group gets asked to cross rough ground to reach a frame. We build the arrangement around whoever moves least easily and let everybody else fit to that. A seated grandparent with a child leaning in is a picture we plan for deliberately.

There is plenty to choose from: fine prints, framed wall art, canvases and hand-finished albums, all built around the images you love best. Once your Watford session is done, you browse an edited gallery online and select whatever suits your home and family.

Yes, indoors or in Cassiobury. The park comes into its own during the closing hour of daylight, when the light arrives low across the open ground and flatters rather than exposes, and the going underfoot stays easy at a point when walking far holds little appeal. The studio takes over when weather turns against us or a public park feels too public.

A family photographer near Watford

As a Hertfordshire family photographer, we know Watford and the towns around it well. It sits close to Bushey and Oxhey, which we cover too. Getting to you in Watford is quick from our Northwood studio, with no travel charge locally.

A lively Hertfordshire town just outside London, with a large shopping centre and a well-known football club. Served by Watford Junction on the West Coast Main Line and Watford station on the Metropolitan line. For on-location sessions we often head to spots such as Cassiobury Park, close to the well-known Vicarage Road.

The same studio, experience and personal care apply to every service we offer in Watford. Explore the rest: We also cover family photography across Hertfordshire, including Sarratt, Mill End, Rickmansworth, Oxhey, Croxley Green and Bushey.

A family sitting is often the only hour in a year when every one of you stands in the same place, and in Watford that is more literally true than in most towns. Positioned just outside London as it is, the town collects one half of a family off a train and the other half by road from Croxley Green, Rickmansworth or Abbots Langley. The consequence is worth acting on: the entire group gets photographed at the beginning of a session, never at its end. Everybody is present, nobody has been sent back to a car for a coat, and the smallest member is still in the mood that was promised on the journey over. Once that frame exists, everything after it can be as loose as you like. Water runs through Cassiobury, and a toddler in the group decides where we work. The open grass gets used rather than the bank, because holding a camera occupies a pair of adult hands and a group by water should not be short of any. Older children can have the river, and the frames along it are worth having. Two things to check before you settle on a date. Vicarage Road sits inside the town, so roads and car parks near the centre fill up whenever there is a home fixture, which matters if most of you are driving in. And a family dressed within one palette photographs as a family, while a family in six competing patterns photographs as six people standing near each other.
