Family sessions here run on the green, in the Chess Valley when the ground permits, and at Northwood when it does not. Kings Langley, Bovingdon and Flaunden are booked in precisely the same way. If grandparents are joining for only part of the hour, tell us, and we will make a frame holding all three generations before they head off.
What we do differently in practice is fit the session to the shortest attention span present rather than to a shot list. The arranged frame is therefore taken first, while it is still achievable, and the loose wandering about comes afterwards.

I went into the photoshoot with reservations, as I wasn’t sure how well my youngest child (3 years) would be in a photoshoot situation. As soon as walking into the shoot and seeing how Kaushik interacted with the little ones, I was immediately put at ease. He amazingly kept my child smiling and laughing for an hour, where I can’t seem to manage to do for 30 seconds!
Beautiful family photos, everyone was made to feel comfortable and relaxed so we got lovely photos with everyone smiling and happy. Photographs are beautiful. Thank you!

What happens during a family session in Sarratt
Sessions run to roughly an hour of real time, most of it walking and playing with the camera keeping up. The camera drops to child height, which means much of the hour gets spent on our knees, and nobody is ever told to smile on command.
The whole edited set goes into one gallery the family can share, so a grandparent who missed the day sees all of it, rather than three phone snaps of the back of somebody's head.

- The Swillet play area. The Swillet on Heronsgate Road, Chorleywood, is the council play area listed for Chorleywood and Sarratt, with junior and toddler multi-play units, a sand pit, basket swing and inclusive cradle swings. 1
- The Chess Valley Walk is about 10 miles long and links the Metropolitan line stations of Chesham, Chorleywood and Rickmansworth. 2
- The Cock Inn on Church Lane (WD3 6HH) has a 17th-century bar, the Old Barn Restaurant and extensive gardens and patio, and takes enquiries for private events. 3
- The Boot on The Green (WD3 6BL) has a heated 12 by 6 metre marquee for private functions seating up to 60, alongside a large family garden and a separate secret garden. 4

Sarratt, a civil parish in Three Rivers District, is about 6 miles from our Northwood studio. It sits close to Maple Cross and Chorleywood, which we cover too. We can photograph your family at the studio or outdoors around the village, and travel to Sarratt is not charged.
For an outdoor family session we would suggest Chorleywood House Estate, a Local Nature Reserve of parkland, meadows and woodland running down to the River Chess, with a Sunken Garden and a Wisteria Circle. Grandparents coming by Tube can use Chorleywood station on the Metropolitan line, the nearest station to the village, which also has a car park. For relaxed outdoor photographs around Sarratt, The Chess Valley and Sarratt Bottom is one option.

Studio sessions for Sarratt
Our studio at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU is a drive of about 6 miles from Sarratt, and the room is kept warm for babies and toddlers. Family sittings there are by appointment, and prints, frames, restorations and scans are all made in the building. Studio family sessions can be booked Monday to Saturday between 10:30 and 18:00, or on a Sunday between 13:00 and 18:00.
Every family session is photographed by Kaushik Bathia himself, a Fellow of the BIPP and the MPA, established in 2001, with five European Kodak Gold Awards.
