Serving Sarratt
Dogs are photographed outdoors in Sarratt, on the green or down in the valley, while cats and house rabbits stay put at home, because a cat carried somewhere unfamiliar spends the hour underneath the furniture and gives you nothing. Kings Langley, Bovingdon and Flaunden come under the same arrangement, and older or anxious animals are visited at their own address whatever species they happen to be.
Worth mentioning at booking: the coat colour. Black, dark brindle and cream coats each want a different background and a different hour of the day around here, and settling that beforehand beats settling it out on the green with the light already going.

What we offer
Dogs photographed on the Sarratt green and along the Chess Valley; the indoor animals at their own house.
Short sessions that end when the animal decides they are over, rather than when a clock does.
Coat colour drives the plan: the background, the hour of day and where we stand all follow it.
Why choose us
Sessions are short on purpose and finish when the animal is finished, not when a list runs out. We photograph from its own eye level, use a long line where recall is unreliable, and leave the lead visible instead of fighting it, since a lead is simple enough to remove afterwards.
You pick from an edited gallery afterwards and those frames get retouched properly. The lead can be taken out. The wet nose, the muddy chest and the grey around the muzzle all stay exactly where they are.

Good to know
Regularly, and gladly. Those early weeks pass in a blink, so a puppy or kitten session holds on to them. We keep the mood gentle and playful, photographing in short bursts while the little one explores, capturing all the character of those first few months. Open air sessions near Sarratt can use The Chess Valley and Sarratt Bottom, a chalk stream landscape in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
A gallery of beautifully edited images that capture your pet's true character. You can then pick prints, frames or canvases to display at home in Sarratt. Because our turnaround stays quick, you will see your photographs soon after the session rather than weeks later.
An hour, give or take, of which maybe twenty five minutes is the dog genuinely giving us something. We stop there instead of pushing on. In Sarratt the distance between spots is short, because the village is arranged along one green rather than spread about, so more of that time is spent photographing and a good deal less of it is spent walking from one thing to the next.
Both. Dogs are nearly always better outdoors in Sarratt, using the green for running frames and the Chess Valley when more landscape is wanted, though the valley floor stays soft long after rain. Cats, house rabbits and the rest of the indoor animals are done at the house, where there is somewhere to retreat to and they come back out in their own time.
Yes, and in Sarratt we come to the animal rather than the reverse, so nothing about its day has to change. Older and nervous dogs are usually best done in their own garden instead. Two things are worth flagging when you get in touch: whether the lead ever comes off, and whether stock is grazing the fields you normally walk. Both change where we go.
Serving Sarratt
Our studio is in Northwood, so Sarratt (WD3) is part of our core Hertfordshire area. It sits close to Maple Cross and Chorleywood, which we cover too. Sessions run at the studio or on location in Sarratt, and there is no travel charge for local bookings.
Sarratt is a pretty Chilterns village in the Three Rivers district, clustered along a long narrow historic green about four miles north of Rickmansworth. Sarratt is served by nearby Chorleywood and Rickmansworth stations on the Metropolitan line, and lies close to junction 18 of the M25. When a session suits an outdoor setting, The Chess Valley and Sarratt Bottom is a favourite near Sarratt, close to The Church of the Holy Cross.

Coat colour and whatever happens to be in the field decide a dog session in Sarratt, in that order. The Chess Valley is farmed and grazed country inside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and wherever stock is out the lead stays clipped on however good the recall is. Frames with the lead off therefore get planned deliberately, on the green, early, before the day starts moving, instead of being assumed available anywhere in the valley. A dark dog is settled by whatever sits behind it, not by the meter. Against a hedge line a black coat merges and the animal reduces to a silhouette; against bright water it becomes a cut out with nothing inside it. What works is a background a stop or two above the coat and no more: closely cropped grass in open shade does that, and so does the pale mortar of the church wall, one of the few surfaces around here that lets a black coat separate cleanly. Cream and pale dogs have the reverse trouble down in the valley, where a chalk stream landscape is full of bright surfaces and a light coat can lose its shape entirely under a high sun. A flat grey sky is the one to hope for with those. Old and anxious dogs do better in their own garden. Farmed country can produce a gate, another walker's dog or something behind a hedge inside the next two minutes, and an animal already on edge spends the session reacting to arrivals instead of settling. A garden has nothing arriving.
