We photograph portraits in Sarratt and out through the surrounding villages, taking Kings Langley, Bovingdon and Flaunden on identical terms. Sittings for one person or a couple can be made outdoors on the green or beside the water at Sarratt Bottom. Weather sends us indoors to the Northwood room, a fallback rather than the usual arrangement, and one worth naming when you first get in touch.
One choice is best made in advance, which is whether the picture should say Sarratt or simply be a good likeness of you. The second is better served by something plain. Same session either way, so we only need telling which.

Calm, relaxed portrait photography
Each sitting begins with a short walk and a look at two or three spots, then commits to one and works it properly instead of collecting locations. Everything is visible on a laptop throughout, so a top or an angle can be changed at the point where changing it still helps.
You then pick from a private gallery and your choices are retouched by hand. Skin stays skin. A temporary blemish or a loose hair goes, and the structure of the face is left alone.

- Sarratt Green listed buildings. Sarratt Green is lined with Grade II listed buildings, including The Boot pub, Sarratt House with its front railings, the White Cottage and Holly Tree Farmhouse. 3
- River Chess at Sarratt Bottom. The River Chess, an 11-mile chalk stream rising near Chesham, flows through water meadows at Frogmore and the watercress beds at Sarratt Bottom to the west of the village, and the only working watercress beds on the river are at Moor Lane, Sarratt. 4

Yes. As well as the digital files, we make fine prints, framed portraits, canvases and hand-finished albums to a high standard. A portrait on the wall or an album on the shelf keeps the pictures in view for years.
Because the plan gets settled before we arrive. In Sarratt that normally means the long green, framed along its length instead of across it, with you standing several paces clear of any wall so flint and brick soften into one even tone. If the sun is high and hard we drop into the Chess Valley, where the sides of the valley do the shading for us. Very little is left to luck.
Yes. Sittings happen along the green, beside the flint and brick church, or on the valley floor at Sarratt Bottom, with an indoor fallback at Northwood for the days when outdoors is pointless. Let us know at booking whether you want Sarratt recognisable in the frame or just a clean background behind you, because the two answers send us to opposite ends of the village.
We do, gently. A stray hair or a passing blemish is removed, while your skin, lines and character are left as they are. The goal is a portrait that flatters and still looks true, never one that looks edited.
Absolutely, and we encourage it. Changing outfits gives the set variety, and time for it is built into every sitting. Ask us in advance and we will gladly suggest what works best, and how various colours and styles look under our professional lighting.

Our Northwood studio is about 6 miles from Sarratt, a WD3 village where Church End and Sarratt Green lie nearly a mile apart. It sits close to Maple Cross and Chorleywood, which we cover too. Your sitting can be at the studio or out in the village, and we do not charge for travel to Sarratt.
Sarratt has no station of its own; Chorleywood station, on the Metropolitan line with a car park, is the nearest. For on-location sessions, the Chess Valley and Sarratt Bottom are good options.

Our studio is at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, around 6 miles from Sarratt, for sittings when the weather rules out the green. Portrait sittings there are booked ahead, and printing, framing, restoration and scanning all happen in the studio. Portrait sittings at the studio are available 10:30 to 18:00 from Monday to Saturday, and 13:00 to 18:00 on Sunday.
