Serving Chorleywood
We photograph portraits throughout Chorleywood and out to Loudwater, Heronsgate and Chalfont St Giles, either outdoors on the common and in the Chorleywood House Estate grounds, or under lights at our Northwood room. Most sittings here are booked by one person for one purpose: a profile picture, a print for the wall, a photograph to mark something that happened.
One decision shapes all of them. We meet late in the afternoon rather than around midday, and we place the sitting so light arrives from the open side of a tree line instead of through it. That does more for a face than any amount of work afterwards.

What we offer
Outdoor portraits on Chorleywood Common and in the estate grounds, planned around the late afternoon light.
Indoor sittings at the Northwood room when the season or the sky rules out working on grass.
Individual, couple and older teenager portraits, edited by hand and supplied at full size and at web size.
Local and experienced
A sitting is unhurried. We talk and walk, and the camera comes up in between, because a face held still on request stops looking like itself. Frames are shown to you during the session rather than only at the end.
Afterwards you choose from a proof gallery and the chosen frames are edited by hand: colour, contrast, and a light touch on skin. Finished files arrive at full size and at web size, in colour, with monochrome versions where the frame suits it.

Good to know
Mid tones, plain, and nothing in the green family. The common at Chorleywood is green from spring to autumn and brown and grey after that, so olive, khaki and sage sink into both. Deep blue, burgundy, charcoal and cream hold their shape against either. Bring a second layer in a different weight, and shoes you do not mind putting on wet grass, because the best ground is rarely the driest.
You receive a gallery of carefully edited portraits to choose your favourites from. From there you can order fine prints, framed pieces, canvases and hand-finished albums, or simply take the digital images. Editing is natural and light, so you always look like yourself at your best. Landmarks we can work with near Chorleywood include Chorleywood Common, a 75 hectare Local Nature Reserve managed by the parish council.
Outdoors in Chorleywood the ground itself does the work: the wooded edge of the common for texture, the estate grounds for something more ordered, and daylight shaped by where we stand rather than by equipment. Indoors at Northwood there is a plain backdrop in grey, white or black, with studio lights, which is the right answer when the sky is unhelpful or the picture wants nothing behind the head at all.
Yes. Alongside your digital images, we offer fine prints, framed portraits, canvases and hand-finished albums, all produced to a high standard. A printed portrait on the wall or an album in your hands is a lovely way to enjoy the images long after the session. Chorleywood is easy to reach: Chorleywood station is served by the London Underground Metropolitan line and by Chiltern Railways trains towards London Marylebone and Aylesbury.
It depends on the type of session and what you would like afterwards, from digital images alone to prints, frames, canvases and albums. Tell us what you have in mind, whether that is a personal-branding set or a graduation portrait, and we will put together a clear quote. Chorleywood and neighbouring Chalfont St Giles, Loudwater and Heronsgate are all covered.

Chorleywood Common is wooded grassland rather than either woodland or open park, and that distinction decides where a sitting works. Scattered trees over grass produce broken light, patches of sun and shade landing on one face at once, and no exposure holds both. The answer is not to avoid the trees but to work at their edge, where the canopy is continuous overhead and the light arrives from the open side. Shade there is even, and a face is lit from one direction instead of twenty. From late spring the leaf cover makes those edges deep and cool, so the sitting moves out onto the grass for the last hours of the afternoon. In winter the same edges become the brightest ground on the common, because bare branches pass light straight through, and midday turns usable again. Wear mid tones. The common runs green through summer and a long range of browns and greys after it, and both of those swallow olive, khaki and sage; anyone dressed in those reads as part of the background instead of standing in front of it. Deep blue, burgundy, charcoal and cream separate cleanly against either season. Avoid fine patterns, which break up at distance and pull attention away from the face. The Chorleywood House Estate grounds give a different register: managed ground, more structure behind the shoulder, a cleaner line where the common offers texture. Choosing between them has less to do with the weather than with whether the portrait wants something behind the head or nothing behind it, and that is worth deciding before the day rather than on it.
