Serving Kings Langley
Portrait sittings in Kings Langley are outdoor bookings by default, split between two grounds: the Grand Union Canal towpath, and the open meadows of the Gade valley. Chipperfield, Hunton Bridge and Apsley fall inside the same working area, on identical arrangements.
Choosing between them is not a question of preference. They trade places across the year, so February wants one and July wants the other, and choosing wrongly costs you the whole look of the pictures. We decide against calendar and forecast together, and the choice reaches you the evening beforehand, never sprung on you at the door on the day itself. Nothing else about the booking changes.

What we offer
Outdoor sittings on the Kings Langley towpath and across the Gade valley meadows, chosen by season not habit.
Walked, unhurried, with pauses built in, so the keepers come from a face that has settled.
Hand retouched masters at print size, plus a lighter set already cut for a phone.
Why choose us
We open by walking, with nothing switched on at all. This is not an icebreaker, it is how the light on the day gets found, and it frequently rearranges the plan.
Then the work goes in short spells with a pause between them, and you are shown what came out often enough that nothing at the end arrives as a surprise. What lands afterwards is an edited gallery: full resolution masters, plus a lighter set already cut for a phone. Retouching happens by hand, so skin still reads as skin.

Good to know
Nearly everybody says this, and for the opening ten minutes nearly everybody is correct. In Kings Langley the answer is the towpath, because a path hands you a job. You walk, we walk, and the frames get taken while you are on your way somewhere instead of standing still under inspection. Bring a person to talk to. By the time we turn back, the self consciousness has usually worn off.
Yes. Children of all ages are welcome, in the studio or on location in Kings Langley. We are patient and gentle with younger sitters, shaping the session around their mood. A single child, a pair or a group, we keep things light so the portraits feel natural and warm.
We can. Groups go on open ground instead of the path, because a narrow towpath pushes everyone into a straight line, and a line stops working beyond about five people. The Gade valley meadows allow a group to be stacked in depth. Let us know the number coming, and whether anybody finds grass difficult, so the ground suits them instead of the reverse.
You receive a gallery of carefully edited portraits to choose your favourites from. From there you can order fine prints, framed pieces, canvases and hand-finished albums, or simply take the digital images. Editing is natural and light, so you always look like yourself at your best. This applies across Kings Langley and Chipperfield, Hunton Bridge and Apsley.
That depends on the kind of session you want and what you choose afterwards, whether digital files only or prints, frames, canvases and albums. Let us know what you have in mind, from a personal-branding set to a graduation portrait, and we will prepare a clear quote for you. Serving Kings Langley
Our studio is in Northwood, so Kings Langley (WD4) is part of our core Hertfordshire area. It sits close to Abbots Langley and Chalfont St Peter, which we cover too. Sessions run at the studio or on location in Kings Langley, and there is no travel charge for local bookings.
Kings Langley is a Hertfordshire village beside the Grand Union Canal and the River Gade, with a long medieval and royal history. Kings Langley station is on the West Coast Main Line to London Euston, and the M25 is close by. For on-location sessions we often head to spots such as The Grand Union Canal towpath and the surrounding Gade valley meadows, close to the well-known All Saints' Church.

The Grand Union Canal decides most Kings Langley sittings, and what does the deciding is the cutting rather than the water inside it. A canal runs between a hedge on one side and a made path on the other, so daylight comes down the corridor lengthways instead of falling across it. The consequence is peculiar to this kind of ground. Face one way along the towpath and the light is on you; face back the other and it is behind you, with only a few paces between the two. Turning round is therefore a lighting decision rather than a move to somewhere new, and on a dull afternoon it is free. Season moves it further than any hour can. While the hedge is bare, light reaches the path from above and the towpath is the stronger ground. Once the growth closes over, that same stretch turns green and dim, and the Gade valley meadows take over, open grass being the one background nearby that stays bright through high summer. The land around All Saints' Church is the third option, and pale stone is why: it holds light late and offers an upright fixed backdrop when the meadows have gone shapeless. Clothing follows the season more than taste. Against a summer hedge, olive and dark green disappear and warm colour separates. Against straw coloured meadow grass, black becomes a hole in the frame, while mid greys, denim and rust hold their shape. In winter the backdrop is brown water and bare wood, almost any strong colour survives it, and a January booking earns more than its reputation suggests.
