The location is chosen when you book rather than on the morning, and we fix where to find each other in advance so nobody spends the first ten minutes circling and phoning. The start time is picked for the light rather than for convenience.
You get the edited pictures in a private gallery, in colour, with a handful converted to black and white where the frame calls for it. Files come at full size for printing and smaller ones sized for a phone. Nothing goes anywhere until you have seen it.

- The Bury Grounds is a 4-hectare greenspace on Bury Lane, Rickmansworth, that was once part of the grounds of the Bury, the town's manor house, and has a magnolia avenue and Taylors Cut, a channel of the River Colne. 1
- Basing House and Three Rivers Museum. Basing House at 46 High Street, Rickmansworth, once home to William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was bought by the urban district council in 1930 and now houses the Three Rivers Museum. 2
- Batchworth Lock, Lock No. 81 on the Grand Union Canal beneath the A404 bridge, has a canal centre alongside with a heritage boat and is the base for the annual Rickmansworth Canal Festival. 3

The usual plan is the Aquadrome, walking a loop while we photograph rather than standing still, because most couples are stiff for the first ten minutes and loosen once they are moving. Bring a warm layer you do not mind being seen in. Shoulders creep up in the wind and it shows in every frame.
Either. The studio is at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6, and it earns its place when the weather has closed in or a plain background is what you are after. Otherwise we come to Mill End and photograph at the Aquadrome, or at your own house and garden when that is where the pictures belong. Travel across Mill End and the surrounding villages is part of the booking.
Because the plan for Mill End is specific rather than generic. We work the Aquadrome, with Bury Lake or Stockers Lake behind you and light coming back off the water into the face, and the slot is set for the end of the afternoon while the far bank still has sun on it. If the paths are wet through or the wind gets up, the sitting moves to Northwood instead of being written off.

Our studio at 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU is roughly 4 miles from Mill End, and its nearest station is Northwood Hills. Portrait sittings there are arranged ahead, and prints, frames, old photographs and negatives can be dropped off for in-house work. Passport and ID pictures are taken without booking. Portrait sittings at the studio can be booked from 10:30 to 18:00 on Monday to Saturday and from 13:00 to 18:00 on Sunday.
