Mill End grew from a hamlet in Rickmansworth parish into a working village by the 1870s, with a paper mill, a tannery and a brewery. From 1958 to 1964 Tornado Cars built kit cars at 90 Uxbridge Road, where the tyre centre now on the site is called Tornado House, and Rickmansworth station, on the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways, is the nearest. Three Rivers District Council, which runs Mill End with Hertfordshire County Council, has its offices at Three Rivers House on Northway in Rickmansworth.
