Serving Mill End
Most pet bookings from Mill End are dogs, and those are done outdoors, usually at the Aquadrome. A cat or a rabbit is photographed in its own house instead, where there is no journey and nothing unfamiliar to be frightened of. West Hyde, Batchworth and Rickmansworth work the same way. Two dogs in one session is common enough and causes no trouble, provided one will wait while the other is photographed.
The thing to bring is whatever your dog genuinely wants, which is often not the treats from the cupboard but one particular toy, kept in a pocket until the moment we need the ears up.

What we offer
Dogs photographed outdoors near the lakes, cats and small animals in their own front room.
Short sessions, treats you bring yourself, and no attempt to make a dog sit still.
Older and nervous animals photographed at home in the garden, in one short visit.
Twenty-five years behind the lens
We let the dog set the speed. The first stretch is spent doing very little, so that the camera stops being an event before it starts being used. Nobody asks him to do anything at all until he has stopped noticing us and the lead can come off.
Sessions stay short on purpose, because a dog that has run out of interest cannot be talked back into it. You get the same edited gallery as any other sitting, including frames prepared at a size that holds up printed large.

Good to know
Because the plan is built around the lakes and the road. We use ground at the Aquadrome that sits well back from the A412, so a dog with reasonable recall can come off the lead, and a long line handles one that treats its own name as optional. Timing is set around your dog too. We go when he is normally walked, not first thing after a night shut indoors.
Yes. A black cat or a dark dog is a lovely challenge, and our years in the studio near Mill End mean we know exactly how to light one so every detail of the coat and eyes shows. The same care goes into photographing white and pale animals.
Please do. Your pet's favourite toy or a pocket of treats helps it relax and gives us a way to catch its attention. We bring plenty of our own too, along with squeaky toys and, when needed, a range of very silly noises. Getting to Mill End is straightforward for us: sits on the A412 Uxbridge Road, with the nearest station at Rickmansworth on the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways.
A set of carefully edited photographs that show your pet exactly as it is. From that gallery you are free to order prints, framed pictures or canvases for your walls. We work to a fast turnaround, so there is very little waiting before you see the results. Open air sessions near Mill End can use Rickmansworth Aquadrome with Bury Lake and Stockers Lake.
That is completely normal and rarely a problem. We work with a lively dog rather than against it, catching its character between the games. For dogs from Mill End, we happily embrace the action too, with spirited shots mid-leap. Stillness is never needed for a great portrait.
Serving Mill End
Our studio is in Northwood, so Mill End (WD3) is part of our core Hertfordshire area. It sits close to Croxley Green and Maple Cross, which we cover too. Sessions run at the studio or on location in Mill End, and there is no travel charge for local bookings.
A suburb of Rickmansworth in the Colne valley, historically a hamlet with a paper mill, tannery and brewery. Sits on the A412 Uxbridge Road, with the nearest station at Rickmansworth on the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways. When a session suits an outdoor setting, Rickmansworth Aquadrome with Bury Lake and Stockers Lake is a favourite near Mill End, close to The William Penn Leisure Centre.

The water at the Aquadrome sets the running order for a dog session here, and the rule is blunt: photograph first, swim afterwards. A wet coat goes dark, flat and spiked into points, and every bit of the texture that makes a retriever or a spaniel worth photographing has gone until it dries, which takes far longer than owners expect. Coat colour is the second thing the lakes decide. Put a black or dark brindle dog against bright water and a bright sky and the camera renders him as a hole in the picture with no eyes in it. Two answers work. Take the reading off the coat and let the water go bright behind him, or simply turn so the far bank and its trees sit behind the dog instead of the sky. Recall is the other consideration. The A412 runs through Mill End, so the ground worth using off lead is the ground set well back from it, and even there the water itself is the distraction rather than any other dog. A long line costs nothing and is the sensible option for anything that treats its own name as optional near a bank. Older and anxious dogs are a different job altogether. Those sessions happen in a garden the animal already uses, they run short, and they stop while he is still enjoying himself rather than once he has plainly had enough.
