We meet at whichever gate you choose, hold the walking to a minimum, and photograph the group while it is occupied rather than while it is holding still. Nobody is asked to perform on command, and no child is bribed into it.
A session lasts about an hour, which is roughly the point at which a four year old stops cooperating. Everybody present gets the same gallery afterwards, so the pictures reach relatives without one person having to forward them all round.

Small children photograph badly while being asked to look at a camera, and a nature reserve deals with that better than a mown lawn does, because a reserve is kept for what lives on it rather than for people standing about on it.
