Serving Rickmansworth
Pet sessions in Rickmansworth are photographed where the animal already goes: the grassland and woodland walks at the Aquadrome, your own garden, or indoors at home. Batchworth, Maple Cross and Mill End are all part of the same round. Most of this work is dogs, though cats and house rabbits get their turn as well, always indoors, where the room is familiar.
The first thing we plan is footing and grass height, because a lens held level with a dog sees whatever the ground has grown that month. Settling it beforehand is the difference between legs in the frame and a head floating on a green field.

What we offer
Dog sessions at the Aquadrome, with grass height and footing settled before we leave Northwood.
Cats and small animals stay indoors at home, where a familiar room does half of the work.
A long line keeps nervous dogs safe and disappears in the editing, so recall never limits things.
Twenty-five years behind the lens
We travel to you, let the animal choose the tempo, and finish when its interest goes rather than when a plan says we ought to be done. Treats and a favoured toy both help and are worth digging out beforehand.
A long line goes on wherever recall is uncertain, and it comes out again in the editing, which takes a minute. The gallery holds finished frames in colour, plus mono versions wherever a coat suits it, and every usable frame is included.

Good to know
Yes. Rickmansworth is a Hertfordshire booking, and so are Batchworth, Maple Cross and Mill End. We drive out from the Northwood studio with lighting and a long lens, then photograph the animal on ground it already uses, which here is usually the Aquadrome or your own garden. Cats and rabbits stay indoors. No animal has to be taken to a studio it does not know.
Please do. A favourite toy or a pocket of treats helps your pet relax and gives us a way to catch its eye. When you visit us from Hertfordshire, know that we bring plenty of our own too, plus squeaky toys and a range of very silly noises. Locally in Rickmansworth that takes in The Aquadrome, a lakeside park and nature reserve with lakes formed from gravel pits once dug to build the original Wembley Stadium.
Sooner than you might expect. We keep things moving quickly so you are not waiting long. When your edited gallery is ready, you can view, share and choose your favourites, and we will gladly help Hertfordshire clients select prints, frames or canvases for the wall. We cover Rickmansworth and nearby Batchworth, Maple Cross and Mill End.
A wonderful variety. Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs, horses and more all come before our lens. We are happy to photograph almost any pet, and glad to chat about an unusual one beforehand. Each session gets the same care, patience and quick timing. Rickmansworth is easy to reach: Rickmansworth station is an interchange served by the London Underground Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways.
Yes, and doing both in one session beats splitting them. The dog is photographed alone first, while its patience is intact, and people join for the last stretch. At the Aquadrome that means quieter grassland set back from the walks, where a lead can come off if recall holds. Everyone should turn up in footwear that copes with wet grass.

Grass height decides more about a dog photograph at the Aquadrome than the light does. Photographing an animal means getting the lens down roughly level with its head, and that is exactly the height the grass has reached. On open grassland in high summer a spaniel vanishes from the chest downwards and what is left is a head floating on green. The woodland floor and the walks themselves are where a low camera can still see legs, and they are the ground to plan for through the middle of the year. Coat colour then decides which of those two to use. A very dark dog on the woodland floor loses its outline in leaf litter and shade; the same dog on pale open grassland is a clean shape with an edge the whole way round. A white or cream coat wants the opposite, since woodland gives it something to be lighter than, while bright grass turns it into a blank. Anything that will go into the water changes appearance for the remainder of the afternoon, so the frames that matter get made on the way out, not on the way back. An older animal, or a nervous one, has no need of the full circuit of both lakes. We begin from whichever entrance you use and work a tight radius around it, in short spells, with the lead going back on in between. Ground covered is not what makes the picture. The animal still being curious when the camera goes low is.
