Riverside parkland is level ground, and that is the whole reason family work in Oxhey defaults to Oxhey Park rather than to anywhere with a view. Where somebody cannot stand for long, we find a bench first and build the group around it, which reads as a deliberate composition instead of an obvious compromise. From November the light beside the Colne fails early, because trees on the far bank cut a low sun long before the sky itself goes. Four o'clock in the park in December is not a session. That is the point in the year when the Northwood studio does the job better, and there is no weather in it at all.
