Serving Carpenders Park
Family sessions here are usually photographed in Oxhey Woods, the local nature reserve over on the South Oxhey side, and we take the same bookings in Bushey and Pinner. If a pram, a wheelchair or a grandparent who cannot walk far is coming, say so at the enquiry: we choose ground to suit the least mobile person in the group rather than the best view.
Small children give about forty minutes before the outing stops being fun, so we front-load it. Everybody together first, while goodwill lasts, then the pairs, then the children alone, by which point it does not matter if they run.

What we offer
Woodland or studio, decided by the weather that morning rather than committed to weeks in advance.
We plan around the least mobile person in the group, then around the smallest one.
One frame of the grandparents alone every time, because nobody remembers to request it.
Why choose us
We meet at an agreed spot, walk very little, and work one area properly rather than marching between three. An hour is normal, and less if the children have finished sooner.
In heavy rain or hard winter light the Northwood room is the sensible swap: warm, contained, nothing to carry. Either way you get the whole group, each pairing and each child edited, plus one frame of the grandparents on their own, which is the picture nobody thinks to ask for.

Good to know
Yes. For a Carpenders Park booking the question is the ground rather than the date. Oxhey Woods is roots, slope and soft litter, which is poor footing in the later weeks and worse after rain. We would either keep to the firm outer edges of the reserve, or move the whole session into the Northwood studio, and that call is best made on the morning once we know what the week's weather has left behind.
Ideally within the first fortnight, when newborns are sleepiest and easiest to settle. Many Carpenders Park parents contact us during pregnancy, which we love, because we can then pencil in a date around when baby is due and be prepared for the big day.
Yes. For a large group in Carpenders Park we would work outdoors rather than in the studio, and choose an open edge of Oxhey Woods rather than anywhere under the trees, so that everyone gets the same light and nobody stands in shade. Agree one meeting point and one arrival time in advance and share it with everybody. The usual cause of a lost hour is half the group still on their way.
You will not be kept waiting long at all. After each Carpenders Park session we carefully hand-pick and edit your photographs, then send through a private online gallery. From there you can take all the time you like over prints, canvases and albums.
Yes, and it is one of our favourites. For Carpenders Park families we take gentle portraits of a newborn with older brothers and sisters, capturing that early bond beautifully. Working at the children's pace keeps baby and siblings calm, so their connection really shines through.

As a Hertfordshire family photographer, we know Carpenders Park and the towns around it well. It sits close to Oxhey and Abbots Langley, which we cover too. Getting to you in Carpenders Park is quick from our Northwood studio, with no travel charge locally.
A residential area on the Watford and Harrow border, sitting between the Carpenders Park and South Oxhey estates. Carpenders Park station on the London Overground Lioness line runs to Watford Junction and London Euston. For on-location sessions we often head to spots such as Oxhey Woods Local Nature Reserve, close to the well-known Oxhey Chapel.

A local nature reserve is not a municipal park, and for a family session the whole difference is underfoot. Ancient woodland ground is roots, leaf litter and slope. It will not take a pram far, and it is no kindness to a grandparent who is careful about uneven footing. That is not a reason to avoid Oxhey Woods, only a reason to plan the session as a small circle near where you came in rather than a march into the middle. Everyone stays together, nobody negotiates a slope with a toddler on one arm, and one good stand of trees fills a frame as well as fifty do. Timing matters too, and the ground keeps a longer memory than the sky. Woodland floor holds water for weeks after the rain that put it there, so a dry forecast tells you very little about what a three-year-old will end up kneeling in. Look at the days behind a booking rather than the day of it; through that part of the year, plan on an indoor sitting at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6. Order matters as well. The group frame, the one anybody will still want in ten years, is taken first, while the youngest still finds it interesting. What follows can be the children doing as they like, which requires no cooperation and tends to produce the frames parents print. Run it the other way round and you are asking a tired three-year-old for the only picture that has to work.
