Serving Carpenders Park

Telling your Sikh wedding story in Carpenders Park

Carpenders Park is a residential area on the Watford and Harrow border. We are used to multi-venue days throughout Hertfordshire, moving smoothly between Oxhey, Abbots Langley. From Carpenders Park we cover weddings right across Hertfordshire, at gurdwaras, hotels, marquees and banqueting suites.

We make sure the families are in the story too, from the milni embraces to the blessings of the sangat. We take the time beforehand to understand your family's customs and the order of the maiyan, mehndi and jaggo. Inside the gurdwara we work with great discretion, heads covered and shoes removed, never intruding on the kirtan.

From the gurdwara to the reception, we keep the day flowing across Hertfordshire, and Carpenders Park, a residential area on the Watford and Harrow border, is firmly within our patch. We also photograph in nearby Maple Cross and Mill End. Around Carpenders Park we regularly photograph at Grim's Dyke Hotel and The Grove, among others.

A residential area on the Watford and Harrow border, sitting between the Carpenders Park and South Oxhey estates. Carpenders Park station on the London Overground Lioness line runs to Watford Junction and London Euston. For pre-wedding and couple portraits, we love spots such as Oxhey Woods Local Nature Reserve, close to 100 hectares of ancient woodland, with Oxhey Chapel, a chapel dating from 1612 in nearby South Oxhey close by for a striking backdrop.

Every tradition

The rituals that make your day

At the heart of a Sikh wedding is the Anand Karaj, the blissful union performed before the Guru Granth Sahib. We photograph the milni, the morning meeting of the two families, with all of its warmth and garlands. The hukamnama, the reading taken after the laavan, closes the ceremony, and we capture it with respect.

We photograph the chunni ceremony and the giving of the choora, and the emotion that comes with them. The maiyan, when turmeric is applied, is full of colour and play, and often holds the warmest moments. From the first event to the last, we tell the full story of the celebration.

The whole celebration

Every event, given its due

A celebration might open with the chunni ceremony, followed by the maiyan and the mehndi. Some families hold a Sri Akhand Path in the days before the wedding, and we cover it with quiet reverence.

We know the order and timing of the wedding day, so we are always in position for each laav. The vegetarian langar follows the ceremony, and we photograph the whole sangat sharing the meal.
